Re: Unpopular Wrestling Opinions Redux

But the face is never supposed to cheat to win

But the face didn't cheat. All George Steele did was shove Randy Savage off of the top rope when Savage was trying to cheat with a weapon.

Even forgetting Steele for a moment, what did Steamboat do to cheat? He rolled through a Savage body slam attempt and hooked him for a three count. If there's cheating there, I must have missed it somewhere.

Robbie E is better than Ryder, Ryder will kill him in a promo but Robbie will beat him in actual wrestiling. If Ryder didn't have the Long Island Iced Z then he would be nothing.

Yeah forgetting the Steele moment...

I'd say the opposite regarding promos/in ring ability.

Yeah, and even with LIIZ Ryder is still an outside player in the WWE.

Re: Unpopular Wrestling Opinions Redux

To debate another point...

To get back to unpopular opinions... I think Macho Man vs Ricky Steamboat at WM 3 is overrated. I just don't get what's so great. It started out fast paced but then it turned into a basic wrestling match.

That is far from the truth. If the match occurred today, it may just be your standard "Basic" match, but in 1987, it was pretty fresh. Take the whole "Million pin attempts in a matter of ten seconds" spot. While Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko whored it out in ECW in the mid 90's (Which helped it become indy wrestling's favorite spot), it was not something you'd see in '87. That was a revolutionary spot back then. While there were plenty of great matches before Savage/Steamboat, it was one of the earliest examples of a workrate type match. Just as the garbage wrestlers of today have to give credit to the likes of Terry Funk, Abby, The Original Sheik, ect, your stereotypical indy workrate wrestler was greatly influenced by the way the Savage/Steamboat match was put together.

Did you miss the part where I said that? Besides, that's already been answered so what's the difference? The bottom line here is that you used the argument that "a face should never cheat to win" and there was no cheating involved from either the actual face who was fighting for the title (Steamboat) nor the face who was seconding him. Steele was merely trying to take the bell away from Savage so HE wouldn't be able to cheat. Did you even watch the match?

How can I say the match isn't that good without watching it? He pushed Savage off the top rope.

Let's look at it in a different manner. A guy is pointing a gun at a little girl. You rush and tackle the guy to take the gun out of his hand. Is anyone going to claim you committed assault? No.

Good point. But I still think the match was average

Personally, I'd still highly disagree, if for no other reason than all of the extra layers and the amazing backstory that went into the match.

On the flip side, some of their early house show matches (Complete with cheap finishes) are much closer to average.

That right there, is what you call an awesome angle. It creates an angle, gives sympathy to the babyface, adds heat to the heel and makes you want to see the face get revenge.

Re: Unpopular Wrestling Opinions Redux

Just posted this in the SmackDown thread, however I thought I'd share it in here in case it were an unpopular opinion...

Mizanin needs to retire to the post and pre-shows. He's making a better commentator than a performer.

Thoughts?

I'm a fan of the Miz but I think his mic skills are far better than his in ring ability so I wouldn't mind to see him as a commentator.
