Under New Management
Season 3 Premiere

February 25th, 2010
Cleveland Browns Name
Vikings Defensive Coordinator Ron Rivera
As New Head Coach

sports+ron_rivera+san+diego+chargers+defensive+coordinator+chicago+bears+linebacker+football+statistics+analysis+nfl+2010+stats.jpg

Ron Rivera has been officially named as the Cleveland Browns' 12th Head Coach in Franchise History today. Ron Rivera, who was part of the Super Bowl Winning Minnesota Vikings, was their defensive coordinator and was a leader of the vaunted defense that led the league in sacks and interceptions. Rivera signed with the Browns on a three-year deal. The Cleveland Browns ended the season 9-7 with an AFC Wild Card win over the Indianapolis Colts before losing in the Divisional Round to the Titans.

Ron Rivera stated that, "... It's an honor to be the new head coach of this historic franchise. The franchise has been through a rough patch recently, but I promise to turn this ship around, he have a very talented roster with a lot of potential, we just need to maximize that potential."

Vikings Sign Dom Capers
As Defensive Coordinator

dom-capers.jpg

The Minnesota Vikings have found their replacement for Ron Rivera, who has become the Head Coach for the Cleveland Browns. Dom Capers, who had been a senior assistant for the New England Patriots since 2008, was chosen to become the new Defensive Coordinator for the Vikings for the 2010 season. Capers stated that he was excited for the opportunity to become a defensive coordinator again after taking some time off from the position. Capers had previously been a defensive coordinator for three different teams, and head coach of two in the last 18 years. Vikings Head Coach Brian Billick stated he liked what Capers had to offer and so did the owner of the Minnesota Vikings.

Can I just gloat how I may just have the greatest Cornerback Corps of all time in the year 2010? Cedric Griffin coming off his best year, Charles Woodson in his prime, Antoine Winfield just about to exit his prime, and Terence Newman in the height of his physical peak.

The 2010 regular season is here and the Minnesota Vikings decided to start off with a bang as they entered Cowboys Stadium and whooped the Cowboys 24-10 to begin the season 1-0. Colby Arden threw the ball nearly 54 times as the running game couldn't be established. Arden ended up throwing 31/54 for 407 yards, a single touchdowns, and two bad interceptions. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo went 15/30 for 183 yards and 2 interceptions. On the running game, Adrian Peterson ran 30 times for 59 yards, while Chester Taylor ran for the lone rushing touchdown on a 1-yard run. In the absence of Bernard Berrian, it became the Sidney Rice show with the receiving corps as he caught six passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. In other news rookie Tight End Jamie Renick caught the most passes on the day, with 8 for 64 yards.

On Defense, Pat Williams had the only two sacks on Tony Romo for the day while also forcing a fumble against the Dallas offense as well. Charles Woodson played a heck of a game, hauling in both of Tony Romo's interceptions and nearly taking one of them all the way back for a pick-6. Vikings Kicker Josh Brown also had a solid day, going 3/4 on field goals with the longest being 58 yards out. He missed one from 61-yards, it being just shy of the goal-posts. Minnesota moves on to 1-0 and will go on to face the New York Giants next week, in what will shape up to be an intense battle between two 1-0 teams.

Vikings' Defense Breaks Hill, Humiliate Giants 10-65

The Minnesota Vikings' defense broke the will of New York Giants' starting quarterback Shaun Hill this afternoon as they recorded an insane NFL record-breaking 18 sacks on him, intercepted him four times, and forced three fumbles on Hill (including an additional fumble recovery turnover on RB Brandon Jacobs) that were each returned for a touchdown. In the final three minutes of the game, the Vikings offense did not appear once on the field and the Vikings still managed to score four touchdowns. Colby Arden had a near-perfect game himself, going 15/28 in the air for 357 Yards and 3 TDs while also denying any interceptions on the game. Adrian Peterson rushed well, going 40 times for 113 yards, and a single fumble. Once again Sidney Rice was the star of the offense, catching 6 balls for two touchdowns, while Jermichael Finley caught the other touchdown, hauling in 2 passes for 41 Yards.

Defensively, Ray Edwards broke the single game record once held by former Chiefs Linebacker Derrick Thomas. Edwards also forced one of the fumbles that was returned for a touchdown. Charles Woodson and Terence Newman each caught two interceptions apiece, and Newman returned one for a touchdown in the mad-dashed defensive mauling during the final two-and-a-half minutes of the game. Chad Greenway also had himself a near-MVP-esque game, sacking Hill 6 times, forcing 2 fumbles, and even recovering and returning one of them for a touchdown. Josh Brown went 3/4 on Field Goal attempts, and was perfect as ever on extra points, kicking all eight of them in the uprights. Rookie Cornerback Bobby Sylvester also scored his very first NFL touchdown today as he returned a 96-yard kickoff into the endzone thanks to a wide open center of the field.

The Minnesota Vikings now confidently move into 2-0, tied for 1st place in the NFC North, and look to continue their harrowing dominance of then NFL when they go up against the Buffalo Bills next Sunday evening.
