Vikings Clinch NFC North, Humiliate Buccaneers 47-17

tampa-fla-usa-16th-nov-2008-nov-16-2008-tampa-fl-usa-minnesota-vikings-FKPT85.jpg

The Minnesota Vikings went to Tampa Bay Florida with the intent on continuing their massive win streak and came away as NFC North Champions after drubbing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 47-17. Colby Arden threw only 17 completions on 40 passes, but garnered 256 yards, two touchdowns, and only one interception on the day. Once again Adrian Peterson carried the team, rushing 42 times for 158 yards, a touchdown, and only one fumble. Chris Henry showed flashes of brilliance, leading the team in receptions with seven for 113 yards and one touchdown. Buccaneer's QB Luke McCown was sacked nine times, and threw an interception, while only completing 15 of 32 passes.

Defensively, the Vikings were all about Jared Allen, who had a breakout game, sacking Luke McCown FIVE times and garnering two safeties during his rampage. Cedric Griffin made an interception return for a touchdown on McCown as well, furthering the Vikings' comfortable lead late in the 4th Quarter. The defense also forced three fumbles on the Buccaneers and recovered one on a kickoff.

With the NFC North in firm control, the Vikings now look to maintain the #1 seed in the NFC, with fierce competition from the St. Louis Rams (9-3) and the New York Giants (9-3).
Current Super Bowl Prediction:
Minnesota Vikings (12-1) vs. Tennessee Titans (11-2)

Vikings Shockingly Come From Behind, Kick Game Winning Field Goal in Overtime Against Bears, 23-20

chicago-bears-wide-receiver-devin-aromashodu-is-tackled-by-minnesota-vikings-safety-madieu-williams-after-a-33-yard-reception-during-the-fourth-quarter-at-soldier-field-in-chicago-on-december-28-2009-the-bears-won-36-30-in-overtime-upibrian-kersey-TXJCTT.jpg

Soldier Field proved to be a thorn in the side of the Minnesota Vikings as a near loss to the Chicago Bears almost gave Minnesota their second loss of the season. A miracle Hail Mary from Colby Arden to Sidney Rice would push the game to overtime, and Josh Brown kicked the game winning field goal, proving that when the chips are down, the Vikings can still bounce back. Colby Arden had arguably the worst game of his young career as he fumbled twice and threw five costly interceptions. He finished the day 23/52 for 364 yards and two touchdowns, including the Hail Mary with 9 seconds left in the game to push it to overtime. Adrian Peterson ran all over the Chicago Defense, rushing 37 times for 203 yards. Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice were the saviors of Minnesota, as Berrian caught a long pass (76 yards) for a touchdown, and Sidney Rice caught a Hail Mary from Arden 20 yards from the end zone and dashed away for the 57 yard touchdown. The most interesting statistic on offense was Center Eric Ghiaciuc's force fumble following a Colby Arden interception, which was recovered by Minnesota and gave them a fresh set of downs. Indeed, it is possibly the first time in NFL history that an offense threw an interception, forced a fumble, and then recovered said fumble for a first down.

Defensively, it was business as usual, as Jake Delhomme was sacked 6 times, threw an interception (the very first play of the game) to Mike Doss, and fumbled once. The defense did their part in keeping the score low enough for the offense to make a comeback and get the win for the NFC North Champions. Unfortunately, two major players of the Vikings defense, Jared Allen and EJ Henderson, suffered injuries that would keep them out of the game. After the game, it was revealed Jared Allen broke his tibia and thus was placed on IR, his season over. EJ Henderson badly bruised his shoulder and is said to be out for at least two weeks.

With a close brush of defeat behind them, Minnesota continues their death grip on the #1 Seed of the NFC and the #1 spot of the NFL Rankings. They move onto the 6-8 Baltimore Ravens next week at the Metrodome. One more win, or a New York Giants Loss, and the Minnesota Vikings clinch home field advantage for the entirety of the NFL Playoffs with only a game left in the season. Rumors are if the Minnesota Vikings win, or the Giants lose next week, the Vikings will start their second stringers for the remainder of the season; whichever happens first.

Current Super Bowl Predictions:
Minnesota Vikings (13-1) vs. Tennessee Titans (11-3)

Maurice Hicks - 9, 27 Yards, 1 FUM

Receiving:
Bernard Berrian - 8, 150 Yards, 1 TD
Sidney Rice - 5, 98 Yards, 1 TD

Defensive:
Ray Edwards - 2 Sacks
EJ Henderson - 2 Sacks, 1 FF
Pat Williams - 1 Sack
Kevin Williams - 1 Sack
Mike Doss - 1 INT
Eric Ghiaciuc (CENTER) - 1 FF

I think I remember Drew Brees throwing an interception, someone forced a fumble, and Robert Meachum returning it for a touchdown circa 09? I assume that didn't happen in this universe though.

I only remember the Meachum one bc my dad had both Meachum and Brees on his fantasy team and all of the emotions he went through on one play were amazing....and then got even better when he remembered Meachum was on his bench anyway :Shaqlol:

Vikings Clinch #1 Seed, Defeat Ravens 7-33

Baltimore+Ravens+v+Minnesota+Vikings+RQtkIkgNkpbx.jpg

Minnesota officially punches their ticket to the #1 Seed with a dominant victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Adrian Peterson rushed all over the Ravens defense, giving his team a big time win. Peterson ended the day with 44 rushed for 224 yards and 1 TD. Colby Arden had a pedestrian day, going 18/38 for 256 yards and a mere interception. During the game, Arden went out with injury, and Matt Cassel took over for the team for two plays, but Arden came back out. Chester Taylor, Adrian Peterson's long time backup, showed flashes of talent running for two touchdowns today.

On Defense, the team made Cleo Lemon suffer, sacking him 10 times, half of which were done by Pat Williams before he went out with injury. Dana Russell, rookie linebacker who has sat behind EJ Henderson during the season, proved to be a valuable asset as he too sacked Lemon once. Antoine Winfield made the lone interception for the Vikings.

With the victory, the Minnesota Vikings are guaranteed home field advantage for the entirety of the NFC Playoffs. The rumors of the Vikings sitting their starting staff have been confirmed to be true as head coach Brian Billick noted that since Green Bay has also clinched a playoff berth. For Minnesota, it's a good time, as late injuries have plagued the team, with Pat Williams' season ending with a broken toe.

Adrian Peterson, Clinton Portis, To Break Single Season NFL Rushing Record

Baltimore+Ravens+v+Minnesota+Vikings+MCG8PTOIRdbx.jpg
Clinton+Portis+Tampa+Bay+Buccaneers+v+Washington+O1bHUpkovhql.jpg

(Peterson Left, Portis Right)

For the National Football League, it has become the mythical "Year of the Running Back", in 2009. Two running-backs have officially joined the 2,000 yard club: Adrian Peterson and Clinton Portis. Through 15 games, Portis and Peterson have been in tough competition for the leading rusher award, but Adrian Peterson has come away with the title in convincing fashion; in fact, the competition was so fierce, Peterson has broken the single season rushing record, and Portis is two yards shy of tying the record. Eric Dickerson's 25-year long record (2,105 yards), once thought impossible, has been demolished handily by the 24 year old Peterson, who plays for the Minnesota Vikings, and is one of the front-runners for the Most Valuable Player award. As of the Ravens game, Adrian Peterson officially has 2,215 yards. Clinton Portis currently has 2,103 yards. Another game and the record will move forward. Peterson has stated he is intent on playing the last game of the season to push his record further and make sure he, in his own words, "doesn't let Portis beat me!"

Eric Dickerson discussed how impressed he was with Peterson and Portis, noting that they're arguably the two best running backs of the era and he thinks Peterson will be dominant for years to come if he can stay healthy. Peterson actually didn't realize he broke the record until after the Ravens' game, being told in the locker room. Reportedly, Peterson jokingly responded, "I should go for a few hundred more in that case!"
