Regular Season, Week 10, 2009
Vikings Beat Packers in Tale of Two Halves, 17-22 The Minnesota Vikings further their win streak to five games after an unexpectedly rough and ugly game against hated rival Green Bay. The story of the game was threefold, as the Minnesota Vikings, now the #1 seeded team in the NFC, looked to continue their domination. The other two stories involved former players of each other team. David Garrard, now Quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, was traded in Week 6 this year for Cornerback Charles Woodson. Woodson said he was excited to play his former team this year and was looking forward to seeing what he could do against guys like Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson. David Garrard was focused, and wanted to make a statement that Minnesota messed up by starting Colby Arden over him and then trading him to the Packers. The Packers ended up making a statement indeed, having a 7-0 lead in the first half and by the end of the day, David Garrard threw for 399 Yards and 2 TDs. The second half is when the switch flipped for the Minnesota Vikings, and after having only 68 total yards in the first half, went wild. Colby Arden only threw 19 completed passes out of 47 throws, but threw two touchdowns and 1 interception on top of 246 yards, as well as a fumble. Adrian Peterson made a costly fumble that allowed the Packers to score late in the 4th Quarter, but rushed 36 times for 93 yards. The floodgates opened when Bernard Berrian got loose for a 71 yard receiving touchdown to the house, bringing his totals on the day to 5 receptions for 122 yards and a TD. Jermichael Finley caught the second touchdown pass at the goal-line to bring the Vikings ahead. Defensively, despite no interceptions, the Defensive Line managed to sack David Garrard six times. Mike Doss also forced a fumble, which he picked up. Chad Greenway was also responsible for a safety on David Garrard. The Minnesota Vikings move to 8-1 and remain the #1 seeded team in the NFC. Time will tell, but the Minnesota Vikings require only five more victories in order to clinch the still hotly contested NFC North.
