Vikings' Running Game Devours Panthers, Win 27-58 
The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Carolina Panthers in dominant fashion 27-58. Adrian Peterson broke yet another NFL record by running for his 7th career regular season 200+-yard game. It is his 9th overall career game with over 200 yards. The former holder was O.J. Simpson, with 6. The ground game overall was dominant, responsible for six of Minnesota's eight touchdowns. Adrian Peterson rushed 44 times for 278 yards and four staggering touchdowns. Chester Taylor and Maurice Hicks also had touchdowns apiece. Recently signed Quarterback Alex Smith was knocked out of the game with a mild concussion, but Jared Lorenzen did well under pressure, throwing 16/31 for 186 yards, a touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Rookie TE Jamie Renick caught the touchdown pass from Lorenzen. Bernard Berrian hauled in four passes for 45 yards, and Sidney Rice caught three for the same number of yards. Defensively the Minnesota Vikings allowed DeAngelo Williams to rush for over 250 yards and three touchdowns, but forced him to fumble once. Panthers QB Brodie Croyle was sacked 8 times, threw four interceptions, and fumbled the football once. Kevin Williams had three sacks on Croyle, while Erasmus James had two, and EJ Henderson, Ray Edwards, and Chad Greenway had a sack apiece. Of note on special teams was the incredible punt-return of 2nd Year safety Ivan Hasty, who ran it back for a touchdown. In the kicking department, Josh Brown had a mediocre day, as he was perfect on his only field goal, but missed three extra points. The Vikings move to 8-1 and still control the NFC North division and the #1 seed comfortably. However, the lack of their star quarterback Colby Arden severely hurts the teams chances for a deep playoff run. Also of discussion was Charles Woodson being injured last week, hampering his chances to become the interception king. Woodson is expected to be back by Week 14. Woodson currently has 10 interceptions and would need at least four to tie the record for single-season interceptions. |

Vikings Break Rushing Record, Dominate Eagles 17-71 
The Minnesota Vikings dominated the Eagles 17-71 this past Sunday on route to a 9-1 record, but that isn't the only record they set. The running game became the most efficient in history, smashing the previous record and setting the most rushing yards by a team in a single game to 479 yards. It was the Adrian Peterson show in the first half as he legitimately rushed for all 253 yards in the first half before being taken out with a minor injury. Chester Taylor manned the ship in the second half and did considerably well. Peterson ran 35 times in the first half for 4 TD, including a harrowing 67-yard scorcher to the big house. Taylor ran 25 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns, including an arguably more impressive 85-yard touchdown rush in the 4th quarter. Alex Smith and the receiving corps had a pedestrian game, thanks to not needing to be relied on as heavily. Smith threw 17/31, for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Sidney Rice and Nate Burleson each caught four passes; Sidney for 52 yards and a touchdown, and Nate for 52 yards. Adrian Peterson had the other touchdown catch, which was at the goal line. Peterson ended the day with 5 touchdowns, one behind the record of 6, held by the great Gale Sayers. Defensively, the Philadelphia Eagles were unable to score despite moving the ball well over the air. Eagles Quarterback Donovan McNabb was sacked 11 times and intercepted five times; these stats alone would have been bad enough, but he also fumbled the ball on a designed QB-Run which was picked up by Vikings 2nd-Year Linebacker Dana Russell. Ray Edwards showed the flashes of his excellence yet again as he found McNabb for four of those 11 sacks. Mike Doss intercepted McNabb twice. It was Ben Leber whom caught the 51-Yard Pick 6 against McNabb. Josh Brown had a pedestrian day as the kicker, missing two field goal attempts and an extra point. His longest kick was from 52-yards out. The Vikings will move to 9-1 and now only require three wins to clinch the NFC North. They will be without DT Pat Williams for at least two of those weeks however due to a broken finger. They will however, have linebacker Jermaine King returning from an ACL Sprain. The Vikings will be facing off against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field; the Packers are the only team to hand Minnesota a loss this season, and if Minnesota is to maintain dominance (and most importantly the tie-breaker) in the NFC North, this is a must-win game. |

The Vikings win a close game and has shut the door on the Green Bay Packers winning the NFC North. Adrian Peterson yet again made history by rushing for the second ever 300 yard game in NFL history, this time once again breaking the single game record that he himself set twice. Not only that, Adrian Peterson set a single game record for most rushing attempts in a game by a single player. He ended the day with 57 rushing attempts for 336 yards and 2 touchdowns. Alex Smith had himself a terrible game, going 14/37 for 149 yards and 2 interceptions. In the receiving game, Bernard Berrian led the team with 5 receptions for 57 yards. On defense, former Vikings QB David Garrard was sacked 8 times, intercepted twice, and strip-sacked once. The Green Bay Offense was hampered by an incredible Vikings defense that forced five fumbles and recovered one. E.J. Henderson was arguably the best player on the field as he hit the "Defensive Trifecta": at least one sack, one interception, and one forced fumble in a single game. In the kicking game, Josh Brown was adequate, going 2/3 on field goals for 37 yards being the longest. The Vikings move to 10-1, and with one more win, will officially claim the NFC North, since the win against Green Bay puts them out of contention for 11-5. Should Minnesota drop to 10-6, however, it will go between them and the Chicago Bears, whom they face next week. For the Minnesota Vikings and head coach Brian Billick, this will be the most important win of the regular season. Of other news, the last three weeks have been massively important for running-back Adrian Peterson, who was in 10th place for yards this season but by gaining 867-yards in three games, a whopping 289-yards per game, he has jumped massively into first place, with former 1st place rusher, Detroit Lions' Running Back Michael Turner being 109-yards behind. Perhaps we are seeing the prime of Adrian Peterson and the future Hall of Famer may become the greatest running back of all time. Peterson officially has 6,878 career yards, surpassing former Viking's career rushing yards leader Robert Smith, whom had 6,818. |
