Top 5 countries you MUST see before you die

1. Italy: There are just so many cities I want so see in this country, far more than any other. Venice and Rome would be at the top of the list of course, but Florence and Milan also sound great. I plan on abusing their train systems while I'm there.

2. England: Far be it for me to deny myself of seeing the land of my ancestors. London is a must.

3. Thailand: Full Moon Party. Nuff said.

4. Germany: Aside from the beautiful architecture, Germany is home of my favorite beer. Probably wont remember anything about my trip, so I'll have to take lots of pictures.

5. Turkey: Istanbul specifically. Something about that place just begs for attention and it has mine for sure. Europe on one side, Asia on the other. Definitely want to check out Hagia Sophia and Galata Tower.

Good list, been to England myself (Scotland as well) and loved it, unfortunately I was 15 and it was a school trip so I did not get to partake in most of the things I would want to do today... Will have to go back...

My list would be Ireland (clearly #1 on my must visit list), Egypt (I'm a history nut and must see the pyramids before I die), Australia (I've heard too many good things from everyone I know who has visited to not want to go), New Zealand (my sister-in-law lived there for a year and raved about it, good enough endorsement for me), Brazil (for the women)

Five I'd like to visit that I haven't already;

1. Germany - Specifically Berlin, know loads of people who have went, not one person hasn't liked it.
2. Japan - I love big cities, would love to experience Tokyo and Japanese culture in general
3. Russia - Studied Russia quite a bit, fascinating history, again would like to experience the different country
4. New Zealand - Beautiful scenery
5. Israel - Just to experience what it's actually like there

I'll eventually go to the US and UK someday so I'll not be including them. (Most of my relatives emigrated to North American/European nations during the "brain drain")

Countries I'm really intrested in visiting/must visit before I die.

1. Israel. Obvious reasons, being that it is the nexus of the three major monotheistic faiths, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. While I'm an agnostic, religion is a subject that has always fascinated me. There is a strong anti-islamic disposition in my country, and I've always wondered what it is like in Israel, where all these faiths live together.

2. Egypt. Again, apart from the Indus Valley Civilization and Sumeria (Mesopotamia? Same thing? :S) Egypt is home to one of the planets oldest civilizations and the architectural marvels known as the pyramids of Giza...I heard recently that access to the pyramids is being restricted though, which is very disappointing to know.

3. Cambodia/South America tie: Cambodia mainly for Angkor Wat and South America for the Mesoamerican sites.

4. Japan. To me, this is the most ego-alien country on the planet. I've always found every single thing they do, besides the Playstation consoles and Yamaha/Honda motorcycles of course, to be odd. Ergo I must go there someday.

Great thread.

1. USA: I have to head to Las Vegas sooner rather than later. I enjoy a flutter or two so I have to check out the casinos there even if gambling there isn't as big as it used to be. Been to Macau and I have loved the casinos there so Vegas is a must. I also have to see Penn & Teller perform before they stop and I need to go to Vegas for that to happen. I also want to visit New York to check out MSG and Wall Street.

2. Egypt: Egypt's history has always intrigued me and I need to see the Pyramids, The Sphinx etc in person. The fact that these structures were built thousands of years ago and are still standing astonishes me. Not too keen to head there at the moment because of the political stability but I will make it there one day.

3. New Zealand: Have heard nothing but good things from friends and family that have gone there. Stunning scenery and a must see for me. Only a short trip so hopefully will do it within a couple of years.

4. Monaco: Monaco GP is all I really need to say. Stunning race track and one day I need to attend the race in person. Would also give me the chance to go to the Monte Carlo Casino in a tux pretending that I am James Bond.

5. Japan: The mix of high tecg high rise skyscrapers crammed in the city and the beautiful old school temples and shrines in wide open spaces is just too much to pass up. I like the mixture they have of the past and future all together and again I have heard great things from some family friends that went there recently.

Other places that just missed the list are mainland China, been to Macau and Hong Kong which are technically part of China but I want to see the rest of it as well. Palestine is somewhere that I want to see as well just to see how they live and what they have to go through with Israel hanging over them. North Korea just to have been there.

Berlin is awesome, went a couple of years back for the Film Festival, but it is such a wonderful City full of history and culture. Everything is so cheap too!

lol I used to be the way. The more frequently you do it, the easier it gets. Once a year probably won't break you in very well, but I can totally understand the fear of not being in control.

Alcohol helps.
