TNA For Sale

Dave Meltzer from the Wrestling Observer is reporting that the Carter family wants to throw the towel in on TNA and sell the company to the highest bidder. There are parties interested in purchasing it, but no word yet on who they might be. Obvious candidates are Eric Bischoff, Jeff Jarrett, Viacom, and the WWE.

Dave Meltzer revealed the news on his radio show today that they've been wanting to get out of the wrestling business for several months now, after they've thrown everything at the company without any results.

Meltzer is quoted as saying:

“There’s a lot of moves being done behind the scenes. There are, no matter what anyone is gonna say right now, big things behind the scenes as far as the future ownership of the company and at that point God only knows where it goes…. There’s people looking at getting it and I think the Carters are looking to get out. They’ve lost enough money and all that and as far as what that means, who knows? But they’ve been looking to get out for awhile, now everyone is going to scream at me and all that, but that’s a 100%, but that’s the stuff they don’t want you to know…. They’ve been looking to get out when they stopped, you know, when it became incumbent, when they didn’t want to fund them anymore….â€

Honestly would like to see it go to someone that could make it not suck. WWE picking it up would be good for a bit but long term not having a second national televised alternative hurts the business in general.

Honestly I'd like to see Jeff get it back. I actually kinda liked TNA when he had it, I just don't think enough of the average fans new enough about it at that time.

I wonder if WWE would be interested, strictly for the TV deal with Spike that I assume would come with it... They could slide NXT programming right into that slot... of course most, if not all, of the TNA roster would be out of a job... just think they might do it for that and the video library and I'm assuming the Carter's won't have a big asking price..

Not sure why Jarrett would want that company, he sold it because it was draining his personal bank account and I doubt Bischoff wants that kind of hassle at his age. Viacom is my only candidate, because WWE? No, wouldn't be beneficial to them, their TV and PPV library is already on youtube and you can't make money off that. And Spike and Vinny Mac gots some heat over the way they kicked him to the curb back in the day.

The wwe hasn't had a second nationally televised alternative since 2001. TNA was never competition or an alternative. They make for a fun library add and for Vince an interesting debate because he would have Sting and Angle inked already to make some quick cash off unlike when he bought WCW and Time Warner kept the big names to license for themselves aside from booker and DDP.


vince could screw Viacom since he has an exclusivity deal with universal. Pull the plug off TNA who gets rating for spike and then use them on ion or another NBC affiliate or even the wwe network

I honestly thought it was a joke when I first read it, but I guess it's actually true. Wonder how the promotion will change with the new owners.

I'd also like to see Jeff Jarrett get it back. But would be be able to get a few investors on board and help him get his company back, it'll obviously depend on how much the Carters are asking for. I can't stand Dixie, so the sooner she's out of there, the better.

I'm sure Bischoff wouldn't mind having a go at bidding for it too if he also got a few financial people behind him.

If neither of them get it, then it'll be interesting to see who ends up with the company and if they can make an improvement on the ratings etc.

If this does turn out to be true than I wouldn't mind Bischoff running it as in the position as purely a boss I think he can be quite effective and its the sort of project which if he hired the right people for the wrestling side could be quite strong in the long term.

Don't think WWE would be interested and would just use it as a toy/feeder promotion anyway.

I wouldn't mind if ROH buys them out. Don't know if ROH has the money though.

Would be great but yeah I would be extremely surprised if ROH had that sort of money just lying around. Seriously Jeff would be great but can't see him wanting it back and the WWE would be the worst possible choice for everyone. I mean what would WWE get out of owning TNA other than a couple of stars they could easily afford anyway? but having WWE basically controlling the whole mainstream north american wrestling scene would be tragic.
