Good day to one and all. I know what you're thinking, and the purpose of this thread is to serve as an outlet for those who need a place to vent or let it all out about subjects concerning personal well-being and at times depression. It is, in a way, a safe haven to discuss things nagging you in real life and a place to discuss mental health problems vocally without need for feeling embarrassed.
Allow myself to be the first to break this thread in. My name is Tanner, I'm 22 years old and I work a dead-end job in fast food. Last Thanksgiving I nearly lost my father to a stroke; we were lucky enough to catch it in time that no permanent damage was done to him, but he will eventually have to go back to the Twin Cities to remove the whole blood clot. It's incredible that we were able to save him and catch it in time.

Before that, I had also had more trouble, having lost a job I loved to circumstances beyond my control last August. It was the first of several crushing blows to my morale and mental health.

Finally, this Christmas was one of heartbreak and loneliness, as the woman I loved, my fiance of four years, split up from me. It broke my heart to let her go and three months out, it is still hard to let go of. There are days where depression overtakes me and I wish to have nothing to do with the world. Whenever I'm reminded of her, I'm unable to control my emotions and wish to be left alone. Unfortunately, I cannot put her out of my life as we are stuck in a situation where we both have to deal with each other until the Summer. Music, friends, and a healthy dose of video games continues to push me on, but it is still a struggle, some days.

I've got a wealth of mental illness issues, myself.

Autism, anxiety, and depression primarily. I also suffered from an eating disorder and self-harm when I was younger.

If you don't mind me asking, what eating disorder did/do you have? As well, when you say self-harm you mean cutting or physical abuse? I ask because I, myself, would hit myself very hard/violently until I was like 16 or so.

Anorexia. I also made myself puke regularly, but didn't ever binge so it didn't classify as a diagnosis of bulimia.

As for self-harm, a mix of cutting and burning.

Ah, gotcha. I had a thought that it would be Anorexia.

I figured the cutting, but not burning. I can say I have never heard of the burning self-harm. Either way, thank you for sharing.

Yeah, I started off with putting matches out on myself. Then started smoking a while later, and started putting them out on my arm as well.

Just writing to give an update I guess.

Aside from small relapses here and there, I've been doing well for myself. I have a major job opportunity that would mean big money, full-time hours, and benefits and I'd be a fool not to take it. In my opinion, it's the start to the road to recovery.

Not a good day for feelings.

I was fine up until about half an hour ago and now I've come crashing down without any real way to release other than talking.

I don't know sometimes. I guess it just still hurts to think about the past.

Well I had to restrain a girl for 35 minutes at work last night from trying to kill herself. She kept trying to choke herself with her hands, the strings on her hoodie, tried to bang her head off a wall. We ended up taking her to a mental hospital afterwards.

All I can tell you Grim is things are not bad. I know life can suck and can pull you down but think of the storms outside after the storm it gets nice out. We all go through storms in life and out of storms into a nice season. I am sorry you are going through it all but it can and it will get better. I deal with this stuff daily at my job and I see the downs and highs of some of this daily. I have kids with bi-polar, borderline personality disorder, ODD, and many other things.

You will get through this.

Oh wow.

Just found out today a family friend committed suicide by gun. He was 37, had a kid starting 6th grade this month, and was a serviceman.

Absolutely awful and it really hurts to hear about that, especially since my mother had to take the call and be on scene after it happened. She was visibly shaken after she came home so I knew something was wrong. Nothing like this I would have imagined.

had to bury a close friend I've known since grade school over Christmas from a suicide by a gun.

It sucks for sure, really can't do anything but be a shoulder to lean on and be there to help out with anything you can.

Only can help pick up the pieces, you really can't pick them up yourself.

Yeah, my condolences. I really wish people could find their way through the darkness. One thing I learned through my dark times was that you're not alone.

RIP

It's been a while since I last posted here but...

I found out yesterday an uncle of mine, a man who I've known my entire life, a man who I love and idolize, a man who survived in the jungles of Vietnam and saw things he's never told anyone about, a man who quit smoking nearly 10 years ago, has cancer of the lungs and liver... and the prognosis isn't good.

I'm afraid of what will happen. We're hoping he can beat it, but who knows with these sorts of things...
