I think that’s what makes Hitler so fascinating is because it wasn’t just simply the people decided they wanted him, and then he went buck wild on them. He slowly gained their trust gave them a scapegoat, put his Nazi party in positions of power, and then he pretty much created the fascist playbook on how to get power without going through the democratic process. That’s what makes Nazis and fascists so dangerous. Because of what they can do outside the law and still have people who look up to him and support him.

yeah also now that i am much calmer and have thought about stuff, i don't feel like calling people who don't vote with you idiots is productive either. it's a frustrating timeline. but more division is just going to make us weaker

Oh that part has never been productive but I don't really care if someone who already planted their flag gets called an idiot when they're being an idiot, it's more of you're a really trying to get a point across to people and you do it in the most counterproductive way possible that irks me. Like do you want them to listen or do you just want a pat on the back for your zinger?

either young people form a new party or you kick out all the establisment dems and start over like the Rs did after that loss in the 70s or 80s. wtv the lore is
Honestly I could see the younger populations forming their own Party sooner than the establishment Dems getting kicked lol

and quite frankly I feel like a return to a moderate left and right is what people actually truly want, they are just easily triggered to emotion by issues. both platforms offer a lot of outrage
I grew up through Clinton and Bush and vividly remember when Democrats and Republicans overlapped on a lot of issues and really on split on the larger broader stuff. The idea of a conservative Democrat or a Liberal Republican wasn’t out of the norm. I miss it.

I miss arguing about boring shit like budgets and if the military should get 4 or 5% increase and how much education should get. now it's identity politics and pettiness all at the cost of the taxpayer and public service - all so politicians can get 4 more years on their pension

What sucks being an older Republican is as a Neocon from the Bush era, I’m hated just as much by the MAGA movement as I probably am with the progressives.

Don’t get me started on the term RINO. I fucking hate it. It’s so stupid.
It's largely cuz a lot of the people that buy into the far-right talking points don't even know about shit like the Liberal Republican or Dixiecrat movements of the 1900s and 1960s, respectively.

The problem with things like the parties themselves is, it’s not an abstract notion like left or right or liberal or conservative. It’s an actual organization and the unfortunate truth is the Democrats did found the KKK and were the ones fighting to preserve slavery. Which is why I don’t know why modern Democrats haven’t thought at any point to maybe abolish the Democrat party and then just form a new party with the same people that doesn’t have that history.

Also, I don’t think confederate statues should be torn down either, and I am fairly anti-confederate. I will shut down any lost cause narrative I see in a political thread with posthaste. Don’t try to spin that virtuous, southern narrative around me.

That being said, most southerners that are deeply identified with those confederate statues probably are kidding themselves if they don’t think they would’ve been the Dixie Kratz in 1860s.

I think a widespread problem in many countries including my own is parties voting automatically with their party and not necessarily what is best for their constituents. There's way too much lust for power and control. It would be nice if it was not controversial to vote against party line in good faith

This.

The problem is, it’s far too common to see people literally out their own party members that voted against their party. Especially the Maga crew have continuously tweeted out Republicans that voted against the republican party and it’s just insane to me. They’re not voting how you wanna vote because you’re representing Nevada where the fuck you from and maybe they’re representing the Republicans in Ohio.

Again, this largely comes back to the fact there's only two viable parties.

In a perfect world within the US, there's a Whig, Democrat, Republican, and (an actual legit) Libertarian party as the four main pillars and then you have minor parties like the Green/Socialist/MAGA party that can feasibly act as the buffer to the big party that have to be convinced to vote for legislation in the House.

As an aside, @Smart Marx I want your opinion on an alternate amendment I made up, lemme know your thoughts on it:

Congressional Apportionment

Section 1. After the latest enumeration required by the first article of the Constitution, the proportion shall be so regulated by Congress, that there shall be not less than seven-hundred-and-fifty Representatives, nor less than one Representative for every three-hundred-thousand persons, nor more than one Representative for every three-hundred-and-fifty-thousand persons.

Section 2. This article will be inoperative until nine years, or three elections have intervened following the ratification of this Article as an Amendment of the Constitution by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several states within seven years from the date of its submission to the states by the Congress.”
