The hindsight argument doesn't work anyways, since we are already in the hindsight phase of Trump's first term and 74 million US citizens still gave him their vote, even after hearing him talk and campaign for 9 years now.

Yes, but his point is, we're wrong and none of the things he's done were bad and if they were then he certainly wouldn't be voted into office. America does not elect bad people, silly Looch

And it makes sense from his POV bc all the things that I think were bad that Trump did seem to be things that guy would cheer for so no point in bringing up Roe Vs Wade, the Supreme Courts Voter Suppression. I wonder how the federal conviction reconciles in his brain tho, just corrupt courts attacking a good man probably

Is this some kind of new hindsight fallacy I've never heard of :lol what is this logic that American citizens automatically know who's bad.

"Trump can't be Hitler bc he was elected"

"Hitler was elected"

"Yes but in hindsight he wouldn't have been"

Am I losing braincells here?

Also dismissing trans issues to "wanting genderless bathroom" would be like the racists that still to this day dismiss the civil rights movement as only being about "water fountains and bus seats". I'm sure this point will be ignored or it will be hand waived away as "not true" despite southern conservatives saying literally that exact line every year around MLK day. "Im privileged and don't interact with racists everyday so they don't exist to me" is so tiring.

Also didn't have time to do any thesaurus editing to sound smarter. Hindsight didn't tell me to
other than being a dishonest liar - he also probably imagining Hitler talked about putting jews in ovens on the campaign trail right off the bat and didn't slowly work towards it. Also ignoring his own argument - you know who elses economy was in the shitter and had a fed up populace who ended up turning to a fascist populist. post ww1 germany lol

I want to put out a disclaimer that I’m not taking a particular position on Trump being good or bad based on being elected, but I do want to correct a slight misconception. Hitler was not in fact elected. While he came in a strong second place, he lost the 1932 Presidential election. However, the President was persuaded by some political elites in Germany to simply appoint him to the position of Chancellor. Hitler than used his loyalty within the ranks of the government to perform several coups in quick succession to usurp the Presidency, consolidate its powers with his Chancellor position and declare himself Dictator. Big whoops on Germany letting that happen and giving Hitler the time of day.

With that out of the way, my god I’ve lost some brain cells in here, too. God bless those trying with this.

I've never seen ignorance is bliss in so many paragraphs honestly. It's like that's what I gotta start telling myself. "This isn't a problem, if it was it would be fixed"

I bet they wish they had some hindsight, shame there wasn't a single person that didn't like Hitler then or it would have never happened

Yeah regardless whether or not he was fully elected, he was largely supported by a large chunk of the population and the pressure he put on his allies to get him into that position of Chancellor certainly didn't come out of nowhere, which is where the conception that Hitler was elected comes from. It's semantics for the most part, but to say Hitler didn't earn his position of power democratically is a fallacy.

Like ffs, the Nazi Party had the popular vote in every election in 1932 and March 1933, won the most seats in the Reichstag, and had more votes than the Socialist Party and Communist Party *combined*. Anti-Semitism was a huge thing in Germany thanks to the doctrine of not just the Catholic Church, but also because of long-standing tension over 1000 years in the region.

The Catholic Church literally allied with Hitler to dissolve the Catholic Centre Party to allow Hitler a free-hand to dominate the elections.

The hindsight argument just fails by every metric.

A fascist leader teaming up with the church to strengthen both their positions and further their agendas? Say it ain't so!

"History always repeats itself" is not just a phrase...

For anyone curious what the fuck I'm talking about, here ya go:

The Reichskonkordat ("Concordat between the Holy See and the German Reich"[1]) is a treaty negotiated between the Vatican and the emergent Nazi Germany. It was signed on 20 July 1933 by Cardinal Secretary of State Eugenio Pacelli, who later became Pope Pius XII, on behalf of Pope Pius XI and Vice Chancellor Franz von Papen on behalf of President Paul von Hindenburg and the German government. It was ratified 10 September 1933 and it remains in force to this day. The treaty guarantees the rights of the Catholic Church in Germany. When bishops take office, Article 16 states they are required to take an oath of loyalty to the Governor or President of the German Reich established according to the constitution. The treaty also requires all clergy to abstain from working in and for political parties. Nazi breaches of the agreement began almost as soon as it had been signed and intensified afterwards, leading to protest from the Church, including in the 1937 Mit brennender Sorge encyclical of Pope Pius XI. The Nazis planned to eliminate the Church's influence by restricting its organizations to purely religious activities.

Oh, and of course, the Catholic Church had the doctrine of the Anti-Semitic position that the Jewish people collectively committed Deicide against God and Jesus Christ until 1964; and the Church celebrated Hitler's birthday until his death.

These are three things that the Catholic Church has never apologized for, nor sought to make contrition for. Boy, it really explains why I dislike the Catholic Church, among all its other transgressions, huh.

I disagree that he earned his position of power democratically, but I do agree Hitler was immensely popular in Germany. He was pretty much the genesis of the term cult of personality. Germans really did gravitate to his message. The treaty of Versailles practically emasculated the German people and they flocked to the first person who told them it wasn’t their fault and that he’d prosecute those he deemed responsible for their suffering. Which always winds up being the Jewish people.

i only said he was legally elected into office, which he was (just not as head of state) - he was then legally transferred power like you said. which kills this dingus's argument more. not only was elected, they then willfully gave him the keys to the entire kingdom.

his entire point was well that would not happen today. Which again is willful ignorance - the cheques and balances have already been trampled on with stacking the courts, so thats one arm down. they hold both the house , the senate and the presidency. the other cherques and balances are essentially good will and hoping people act in good faith.

I think it's fucking insane NOT to be even a bit worried. it's like how much of your head in the sand can you be.

I can certainly understand the not feeling represented argument by a vast majority of center left and center right voters. I'm one of them and I imagine the large silent majority is as well. But the Reblician playbook has been open and obvious and more importantly in your face for like two decades now...and people are still gaslighting us telling us we are overeacting. like fuck me man are they gonna have to take your friends and family away for you (not you, people in general) to wake the fuck up and see that this also is not the solution to this broken ass planet
