I'm a huge fan of Craig's Bond and I also grew up on Brosnan's Bond. While I did like the Pierce Brosnan's cocky portrayal, I like Craig's gritty Bond even more. I'm also a big Javier Bardem fan since No Country for Old Men, so I'm looking forward to this movie. Hopefully it doesn't have some ridiculously convoluted plot like Tomorrow Never Dies. Seriously did anyone even get that movie?

Oddly many consider that Brosnan's best Bond film. I have mixed feelings on it, althrough it did grow on me recently when I saw it. Would still say GoldenEye is his best, Sean Bean was an ace villian in that film.

Like you had any doubts...

I'll definitely check this film out though. Interested to see how it plays out.

Well I was only like 15 at the time so my only experience of Sean Bean was in that terrible football film When Saturday Comes truly dire lol.

Haha, true. All he ever seems to get is the villain that dies. Seriously, it's like a friggin spoiler as soon as you know he's in the movie.

Quick question, is Q in this one?

Goldeneye was definitely his best movie. That movie was just all around good. Couple that with the fact that it was made into one of the best games to hit N64 and a game that I played a lot and it's just a movie that really sticks out in my mind.

Deadline said:
EXCLUSIVE: There’s no doubt that strong film reviews and advance buzz are giving the 23rd James Bond movie a big thumbs-up. But this weekend is the first indication of how well the Sam Mendes-directed pic will do at the box office with the Eon Production Skyfall opening in the UK, France and other Euro territories for Sony Pictures and MGM. Sony won’t divulge official international grosses until Sunday morning. But sources tell Deadline now that Skyfall opened as Britain’s all-time biggest Friday opening and biggest opening weekend.

It smashed previous records set by the two other Daniel Craig as 007 movies. Skyfall‘s UK total is expected to be £20M weekend ($32.2M) compared with the first installment Casino Royale‘s opening weekend of £13.37m ($21.53M) and Quantum Of Solace‘s £15.38m ($24.77M) which broke UK box office records for the biggest opening weekend when it was released in 2008. Skyfall‘s Friday opening day of £6.2M ($9.99M) also shattered Quantum Of Solace‘s previous recordholder of £4.9M. Saturday was expected to be higher and Sunday’s about the same. (Numbers may be refined on Sunday…)

If these numbers are correct then that is a massive start for Skyfall. No real surprise though as this has actually been highly rated by almost all that have watched it and Bond is as English as you can get.

I am so jealous that UK fans get to watch it already and I have to watch three more weeks to see it here.

Normally it is a moderate hit in the US but this time around it looks like it will do really well. The last two did just over $160 million each but this should smash the $200 million mark.

Even as a very very casual Bond fan, I found this movie to be a great homage to all things Bond, as well as a rollicking action movie in its own right. Photography throughout is stunning, and the opening action scene is absolutely riveting. The subplot with Bond's fellow MI6 people is also very well done and never lags when compared to Bond's actual investigative and action parts. The acting is also superb, with Javier Bardem in particular turning in a typically spellbinding performance as a deranged former agent, and Dame Judi Dench oozing class as M (and getting to do a bit of shooting herself!). The highlight of this movie, however, is the new Q, a very young but very talented actor which strikes the perfect balance between comedic nerdy awkwardness and actual efficiency that seems to lack in so many movie scientists. Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and, of course, Craig himself round up a fine ensemble cast, who deliver a very competent action movie.

4/5 - 8/10.

Excellent stuff! Nice to hear your priase of Whilsaw too think he could have a very birght future indeed. Stil haven't seen it hopefully later in the week.

Think it marking fifty years of Bond will make a difference in the Box Office.

I got to see it last night. Really good film, much better than the previous one.

Was especially impressed with Daniel Craig, who found a good balance between the beat down hero he was portraying, and the calm, slick Bond that everyone loves. The film also does a good job of staying true to itself, while still keeping the look and feel of it all fairly modern. The action is robust, the protagonist is a bit nastier and and the location shooting isn't filled with flashing lights and nice buildings. They're all the things that made Casino Royale such a good film.

Also, the opening credits were amazing. I was so glad to hear Daniel Kleinman came back to work on Skyfall.

I saw this today and it blew my mind. This is a James Bond film, Quantom of Solace was just an action film, they rediscovered what is great about Bond with this film. It has humour, it had gadgets, he was actually a spy, it had the car (How good was it seeing that again!!!), it had a great villian, it also had so many nods to the past which were just brilliant. Craig was great as Bond once again as well, he played him so well with more emotion than we had seen. Everything just worked so well together, the song was the perfect choice finally back to the big band feel. The fight scenes they had were top notch yet again, especially the Shanghai one.

Some massive things happened as well which changes the direction of Bond in the future which is really interesting.

I was stunned when M died but it kind of makes sense. She has been there for seven films so it probably was time for a change. Ralph Fiennes was fantastic in his role, his character is perfect to take over from M and I never knew that he could actually act. I know him for getting it on with a stewardess on a QANTAS flight. Moneypenny being back is a nice touch as well. Plus as I said before seeing that car again was awesome.

Overall it was brilliant and lived up to my expectations. I was so good that the 145 minutes flew by. I am actually tempted to spend another $20 to go to the cinema to see it again as I don't know if I can wait for the DVD.

10/10 :p
