Surely when I finish Peter Capaldi's run as the Doctor I'm going back to the beginning so this News can hit harder for me.

I don't want to sound like one of those purist Doctor Who fans, but trust me HoHo, a condensed version of The War Games is NOT the way to go. That's arguably a top 5 Classic Who serial and it's 10 parts, which I believe is the longest if you don't count Mission to the Unknown and The Dalek's Master Plan as one story. Regardless, I'll watch it because I'm a purist, but I have a hard time believing it'll work properly in such a short run time.

In other news, did anyone watch a Who serial/episode on Saturday? It was the 61st anniversary of the original airing of An Unearthly Child, and instead of watching that one, we popped on a Hartnell marathon of The Space Museum/The Chase. Fun times.

10 Parter and were the Episodes length back then around the same time as today? The Trailer itself has me like I need to finish off Capaldi's run so I can travel with my Tardis to enjoy that

The thought of a Regeneration not being seen by fans back then is wild. Imagine you see one Doctor one Week and then the new Actor as the Doctor comes in.

The episodes were shorter but a 10 part serial is still over 4 hours long. Still, it’s a must watch in its entirety.

As for regenerations, imagine how people felt when 6 tried to kill the companio that 5 had just saved!

I concur with Fuji, War Games needs to be seen in its entirety to appreciate it. It sets up the next 50+ years of storylines regarding the Time Lords and it just a cracking good story in a set of incredible stories for Troughton.

I'd go so far as to say it's arguably the best finale for a Doctor, competing with Caves of Androzani.

It's not that bad.

What they're talking about is back then they didn't save recordings of everything, and the original recordings were lost to time (they literally would tape over stuff). It aired on TV live, but recent reairs were impossible.

I need to catch up on more Classic Who. Need to find the OG War Games. One of my friends gave me a compilation saved on a flash drive a number of years ago to help me catch up some, but War Games isn't on it.

Yeah War Games on DVD/Blu-Ray is crazy pricey, about $180 or something of the sort.

Caves is, without a doubt in my mind, the best regeneration story. However, I don’t think it’s Davison’s best, as I’d rank Enlightenment ahead of it by a slight margin. Sharaz Jek’s yelling gets on my nerves before Caves is done. I actually think the entire Mawdryn trilogy is amazing and Turlough’s last story, Planet of Fire is a great capper to that as well. Davison’s tenure isn’t the greatest, but when it hits, it’s some of the hands down best writing/acting from the Classic series. Obviously Earthshock and Resurrection of the Daleks are top notch, but I’m also talking about simpler stuff like The King’s Demons, Black Orchid and The Awakening.

As for the War Games DVD, I am fortunate enough to own a copy and I’ll never part with it as it was a gift from my mom many years ago. Still miss her every day but I’ll always take solace in the fact that she was the Queen of random media purchases!

For anyone that wants to watch, I believe the entire War Games serial is on Tubi, along with most of the classic series.

Isn't Davidsons Daughter married to Tennant or is that another Doctors kid he married?

David Tennant is married to Peter Davison's daughter Georgia. She portrayed a character that is called The Doctors Daughter (she was cloned from his DNA or something).

So The Doctor married his daughter.

Yeah I was pretty sure it was Davidsons Daughter. Thanks.

I also bought all of Tom Bakers episodes on Blu-Ray not long ago

An unrelated question.

Is the Doctor Who movie (A/K/A the 8th Doctors entire run) available anywhere? Streaming or physical media? I have yet to see it, nor can I find it on any streaming service.

This is all I can find about it.

Licensing issues so you can only streaming the UK.
