I can't believe 5 teams in the semifinals are all the last 5 winners of the cup.

Yeah, great. My two least favourite teams in the NHL, but since I like Iginla I guess I'll root for the Pens.

In a shortened season, I expect that to happen, since good teams will rise above the flash in the pan ones that make the playoffs (see Toronto Maple Leafs).

Hoping Detroit knock out the blackhawks, but a chicago/Pittsburgh finals would give the NHL a license to print money.

Re: NFL Regular Season Discussion

Well another fine season of hockey is started and with all of my football frustrations (looking at you Steelers) although there are still plenty of good games going one in football land. Who are you liking this season to win it all in the NHL.

Colorado Avelanche with their reinvigorated team and a fiery head coach.

Boston Bruins

Chicago Blackhawks

Pittsburgh Penguins

St. Louis Blues.

Who do you chose?

How about those Maple Leafs? Well, they probably won't be winning the cup but it's nice to have a team that looks like a team out there for a change. They're still a couple of years off in my mind though.

Meanwhile, I always pay attention to the teams with the best goal differential since it's a good indicator of their overall strength this early in the season. So far Colorado and Anaheim look really good. I'd include San Jose in that list except I know they'll somehow choke in the playoff's like usual. The Blues are a good shout out as well, this could be their year if the stars align.

Colorado has been playing like a team possessed but can they sustain it. San Jose looks good to along with Anaheim. I overlooked them.

I always overlook San Jose in the big picture. They're great in the regular season but they always find a way to fuck up in the playoffs. Maybe this will finally be their year?

I think most people do that anyways. Sharks and Ducks go figure.

How about those Maple Leafs indeed!

And they WILL be winning the cup because I said so! It will finally happen! :p

How many games do you guys think Shawn Thornton will get? I wish he would get 20 games, same amount as Bertuzzi got. But it will probably be around 8-10.

What type of grades would you give some of the teams leading into the Olympic break. Who has surprised you and what or who has made you shake your head?

I would say one of my surprises is the Colorado Avalanche playing so well.

Ovy playing better than he has in awhile.

Malkin being almost non existent for a good chunk of the season whether it is because of injuries to him or his linemates or what I don't know.

I such at rating teams but from what I have seen which has been very little. I would give the top teams in each division at least a B the rest can suck it and take a D.

The biggest surprise has definitely been Alex Steen

I'm gonna say it, David Clarkson's contract is one of the worst in history. The only other ones I can really think of are Alexei Yashin and Chris Drury.

... No. You can't say it's one of the worst in history or compare it to either of those guys when he hasn't even played half a season with the Leafs yet.
