Lucha Underground Broadcast Team Issues

There have reportedly been some issues with the Lucha Underground broadcast team. Vampiro is said to have become a point of frustration with many in the promotion.

Sources have noted that Matt Striker will often feed Vampiro a line about the style or history of Lucha Libre, which Vampiro will quickly dismiss or sound disinterested with. Vampiro has also been criticized for not knowing some basic Lucha moves, as well as for confusing the babyfaces and heels. It's also apparent that Vampiro's audio track is often censored and requires extensive mixing in post production. A source indicated that Vampiro routinely uses foul language, which has caused the production team to spend hours adjusting the commentary for the 60 minute weekly series.

There are some in the company that feel as if Matt Striker's efforts are being compromised by Vampiro. It remains to be seen if the company will search for a replacement. Jim Ross was recently rumored to be in talks with the promotion, however he told me a couple of weeks ago that he hadn't had any talks with the organization.

"I haven't had any conversations with Lucha Underground," Ross told WrestlingINC.com. "I have yet to talk to any of them. The last person I talked to from Lucha Underground was Matt Striker at Wrestle Kingdom 9. I have not had one phone call, text, fax, whatever from Lucha Underground. Will those take conversations take place? I have no idea, I have a manager who handles that."

While JR admitted that he hasn't spoken with Lucha Underground, he didn't close the door to working for them.

"Maybe they [Lucha Underground] liked my work at Wrestle Kingdom, maybe they know I'm not contracted to anybody, maybe I'm a candidate for something, I don't have any idea. It would take a very special engagement for me to re-engage a weekly TV show. I have so many projects that I love to do. I'm trying to finish an autobiography, which is an incredible undertaking. I have 70,000 words on this book already... I'm at the age where I enjoy working a part-time schedule. Never say never, but it would have to be an extraordinary situation."

Just done watching episode #12. It was splendid!

- The intro to the episode featuring Cueto and Cage was fine. I like these intros to the episodes they're doing.

- Mil Muertes vs Fenix was pretty damn solid. Mil's first singles loss? Awesome, I'm glad it was against Fenix.

- Liked Cage's vignette.

- Argenis, Aerostar & Super Fly vs Cortez Castro, Cisco & Bael was a fun, action packed match, loved it!

- The Vampiro/Puma/Konnan segment was alright. LOL'd at Vampiro/Konnan wanting to go at it.

- Prince Puma vs Cage was fun-tastic, loved every bit of it! Nice ending to the match, wasn't expecting a clean finish at all, this should be a good feud!

- Interesting ending to the episode, looking forward to seeing who that Asian chick is and who she's looking for.

Also, thecubsfan reported the following:

El Rey was added to Dish (US) yesterday. This was announced just a few hours before the show, so perhaps many people weren’t aware of it for last night’s show but it should eventually increase viewership for Lucha Underground.

One of the coolest things about Lucha Underground is how they know how wrestling like this works. We can't have five-star classics every week - we'd get kinda burned out on top of there being so little heat. The heels in Lucha Underground right now are crazy underrated in a "They're great at doing their jobs" sense. There's a fantastic roster here of solid, unspectacular workers who'll either bump around or provide great bases for tons of ridiculous awesome breathtaking highflying from all the fantastic Luchadores we all know and love. These guys really got a bone this week.

Fenix upsetting Mil Muertes was awesome! It was Muertes's first singles loss but it was in such fluky fashion that not only did he lose absolutely nothing, but Fenix came across - 100% - like an Eddie Guerrero. Expecting next week's episode to open the with Catrina licking all ten pieces of Fenix left on the temple floor, and it'll be the saddest thing to rule that much.

2 more things I love about LU: One of which is the way they get almost everybody over as much as they can: take Aerostar and Argenis, who I've only seen job to Cage, but they came across as big-time high-fliers themselves in that match, so it's totally believable that they can deliver an asskicking - and boy did they ever - and the other is the way they've conditioned us to do what we can't do with the major promotions - sit down and just enjoy the fucking show. The ONLY thing there is to say about the six-man tag is that if you HAVEN'T seen it yet, you're a tool and need to run to Youtube to go find it. Now. Don't bother with the next paragraph, gogogogo!

The one guy they haven't helped get over was Super Fly, who Pentagon Jr. made look like an absolute jackass, haha.

And then there's "THE MAN CALLED CAGE"... Striker and Vamp make a great commentary team, fuck the haters - having a great match with Prince Puma. Wasn't too big of a fan of the story of "Puma can tire out Cage" but this was still a lot of fun to watch. Cage breaking dudes in half is the awesome TV, so is him no-selling getting blasted by a wine bottle, which of course let Puma shine even bri... well, Puma always shines the brightest he can so it doesn't matter. This ruled, the postmatch stuff looked pretty devastating and made sense, and a statement has been sent to the whole Temple locker room...don't fuck with Cage, or he'll tear you in half. Literally. He'll see you next week.

- Below are some notes from the recent Lucha Underground TV tapings in Los Angeles, which have been sold out with 250 fans in attendance.

* The February 4th episode was taped on January 17th and opened with Hernandez & Jeff Cobb defeating Beal, Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco in a 2 vs. 3 dark match. This was Cobb's Lucha Underground debut. The actual episode began with Angelico defeating Son of Havoc, which was done to set up the Havoc & Ivelisse turn. Other matches saw Drago defeating Aero Star, Pentagon Jr. defeating Famous B and Cage defeating Johnny Mundo in what likely is a #1 contender's match.

* The February 11th episode featured Fenix defeating Argenis, Johnny Mundo defeating Son of Havoc and Pentagon Jr. defeating Ricky Mandell. The episode ends with Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) making his LU debut with the AAA Mega Heavyweight Title belt. He attacked by former champion El Texano Jr., who was also making his debut. Chavo Guerrero joined in on the attack but Del Rio made a comeback and put Guerrero in the armbar.

* The January 18th tapings opened with Hernandez, Cobb & Argenis defeating Mandell, Mariachi Loco & Son of Havoc in a dark match. The February 18th episode opened with Mil Muertes defeating Chavo Guerrero. Muertes went after Catrina but Fenix made the save. Ivelisse defeated Angelico, Texano Jr. defeated Super Fly and kept beating on Fly until Alberto El Patron made the save. The main event for that episode saw Pimpinela Escarlata, Mascarita Sagrada & Sexy Star defeating Cisco, Beal & Castro (The Crew). Big Ryck has split from The Crew as he had a patch over his eye. Apparently they attacked hi before and put a cigar out in his eye.

* The February 25th episode had Cage defeating Puma in a non-title match when Konnan threw in the towel for Puma. If Cage won, he earned a title shot. Aero Star defeated Drago and it was announced that they will face each other until one of them wins two matches in a row. The person to win that challenge will receive a surprise, as announced by Cueto. Other matches saw Pentago Jr. defeating Northern California indie wrestler Vinny Massaro and Johnny Mundo going to a double count out with King Cuerno in the main event.

* The March 4th episode opens with Mil Muertes defeating Fenix. Catrina came out late and Muertes told her to lick Fenix but instead she put down the Earthquake stone that Muertes carries and Fenix hit Muertes with it. Catrina licked Muertes, indicating that he's going down next. Catrina then kissed Fenix. Big Ryck is now a babyface and defeated Sexy Star. The storyline was that both of them wanted a match with The Crew so they had to fight for it. Ryck refused to hit her so he just powered her down and pinned her. The Crew then attacked Ryck but Star made the save. The main event saw Texano Jr. defeat Alberto El Patron by DQ. Texano used a bullrope but Patron took it away and used it on him. The crowd was said to be very hot for this match.

* The January 24th tapings apparently opened with the main event for the March 11th episode - Johnny Mundo defeating Cuerno in a cage match. The match was taped first because the crew had to put up & take down the cage. A dark match was next with Hernandez winning a five-way over Cobb and three others making their debuts - Willie Mack, Shane Strickland and Martin Causus from WWE Tough Enough fame. The rest of the March 11th episode looks to have Angelico defeating Ivelisse and Pentagon Jr. defeating Argenis. Pentagon then "broke" his arm and cut a promo building to the reveal of his mentor.

Hey @Bort is there a good Lucha Underground image or gif that'll remind you that it comes on Wednesday nights at 8 PM?

Seems like it'll come to good use.
