Kane Destroys Ahmed Johnson 11/3/97

Not really a match. Kane comes out and destroys Johnson before Mankind makes the save. Good feud buildup with Mankind. **

Johnny B Badd vs Chris Benoit TV Title Tournament WCW Main Event 2/28/93

Decent match, lame finish with B Badd winning when Benoit pins himself on a suplex. *1/2

WWE Unforgiven 2002 - World Heavyweight Title: Triple H vs. Rob Van Dam

It was around this time that many wrestling insiders started reporting HHH's growing influence backstage on booking decisions. According to Bryan Alvarez's Figure Four Weekly Newsletter, RVD was nearly booked to win the World Title, but HHH cut a scathing backstage promo, pretty much saying what he said on RAW leading up to Unforgiven--RVD wasn't on his level. Say what you want about RVD's stiff-ish style and at times, careless nature. Rob grabs a headlock to start. JR notes that RVD “may be” the quicker of the two. :lmao They do some intense psychological staring down and HHH goes for the arm and they work off a headlock. They slap each other and HHH acts like it’s a violation of the sacred Bushido honor code. Another criss-cross goes nowhere, as Rob goes back to the headlock. Okay, this isn’t Japan, I’m not fooled by this nonsense, it ain’t going anywhere, so get on with it. Rob calls for time and does his water-spewing exhibition. And that’s a SHOOT, brutha! Back to the headlock. HHH uses the knee to take over (ah, the good old days), but Rob rolls him up for two. They do a rather poor bridge/backslide spot, and Rob spinkicks him for two. Back to the headlock. ENOUGH with the headlock. No one in North America cares about a headlock and in this case it’s just filling time, so GET ON WITH IT. Rob hits him with another spinkick and HHH bails, but smartly sidesteps a hilo dive, and Rob splats on the floor. HHH drags him in and out again, and gives him a little STEEL STEPS SHOT. Back in Rob gets a rollup for two, but HHH comes back with a neckbreaker for two. They brawl out and HHH gets the advantage, and back in a high knee gets two. This is quite pedestrian. HHH goes up and gets slammed off, but gets caught in the MAIN EVENT SLEEPER OF DOOM. Man, if Jeff Hardy and Spike Dudley can lose to that, what chance does Rob have? Well, he escapes, and does some flips and stuff, and a handspring moonsault gets two. Monkey-flip and Rob flips some more and gets Rolling Thunder for two. HHH bails and gets hit with a pescado as a result. Back in, missile dropkick gets two. HHH hits him with a facebuster, but the ref is bumped. Oh, goodie. Rob gets his visual pinfall so that HHH can claim that he’s putting over the new talent, and the frog splash also gets bubkus because there’s no ref. HHH goes low as everyone awaits the inevitable Flair run-in, and he retrieves his trusty Sledgehammer of Plot. And hey, here’s a shock, it’s Flair, and hey, here’s another shock, he turns on RVD (despite having no affiliation with him prior to this), and HHH gets to retain. **1/2 I enjoyed the mat wrestling at the start with RVD completely dominating it but after that it all goes downhill with a very boing HHH heat segment and a not to thrilling Comeback from RVD all leading to a very predictable SCREWJOB.

WWE Unforgiven 2002 - Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle

A Long lockup to start, and they carry it right out of the ring and back in. Angle takes him down and they do some actual mat-wrestling, jockeying for submissions, and Angle decides to go for the ropes. Angle shoots for the takedown and rides Benoit on the mat, but can’t get the anklelock before Benoit makes the ropes. Angle goes for the arm with a hammerlock and they turn it into ANOTHER mat-wrestling sequence before Angle goes to the headlock and it leads to a pinfall reversal sequence and the crossface by Benoit. Awesome. Angle makes the ropes and bails, and the crowd shows love for the match. Back in, Angle goes the cheap route and dumps Benoit, and pounds away on the floor. Back in, backbreaker gets two. Security throws a guy out, so Angle goes to a bodyscissors while the crowd gets it out of their system. Benoit breaks, but walks into a kneelift and goes down again. Angle pounds away in the corner, but misses a charge and Benoit is more than happy to give him a free ride to the other post. Backdrop suplex gets two. Benoit short-arms him as Cole & Tazz actually get a nice patter going (“Chris Benoit has like 0% body fat”, Cole notes. “I used to have that.” Tazz replies. “What, when you were two?” BURN!) . Benoit blocks a suplex, but Angle overpowers him and gets it anyway. Benoit snaps off the rolling germans out of nowhere, but Angle reverses and gets his own pair of suplexes, which Benoit reverses AGAIN and gets another one, which Angle reverses and gets another pair before finishing with a third and getting a nice round of applause. KICK WHAM ANGLE SLAM is countered by an insane german suplex by Benoit, and he goes up. Angle hits him with the Pop-Up Superplex for two. Benoit rolls him up for two. Angle takes him down into the anklelock, but Benoit kicks out of it, and they do a tombstone reversal sequence, which Benoit turns into a shoulderbreaker. Nice. He then goes upto the top rope and hits the flying headbutt for two. Crossface in the middle and the crowd is INTO it. Angle then grabs an anklelock, while IN THE CROSSFACE, and they go into an awesome submission reversal sequence that I’ve never seen done before. Angle ends up with the anklelock, but Benoit makes the ropes, so Angle puts him in an Angle crossface! Benoit goes for the ropes, so Angle uses his foot to push the ropes away (FUCKING AWESOME TACTIC) and they do a rollup reversal that ends with Benoit on top, using the ropes for the pin. ****1/2 In 2002, these two could not stay away from each other. In the past, they had been in a 30 minute submission match and a cage match, but never really had a great straight 1-on-1 wrestling match. This was "that" match and it’s an excellent lead up to their Royal Rumble match in ’03. Very underrated in my view.

WWE Unforgiven 2002 - WWE Championship: Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman vs. The Undertaker

They do a shoving match to start and Taker wins. Lesnar grabs a headlock, and walks into a hiptoss and gets dumped. Brock pounds away back in, but gets armdragged and UT works on the arm. Brock hammers away again, but runs into a boot and gets hit with the flying clothesline for two. ROPE WALK OF DOOM, but Taker goes after Heyman, and Lesnar spears him into the corner. Weak. Suplex gets two. Brock works on the ribs and gets two. Taker fights back, but gets powerslammed for two. Brock goes to the BEARHUG OF DEATH, and I go to the bathroom. Taker escapes and pounds away, including a punch that clearly misses by a FOOT and still sends Lesnar flying out of the ring, but Lesnar comes back with a beltshot that also misses by a foot and yet knocks Undertaker unconscious. So I guess they’re even. Taker does the wussiest of all wussy bladejobs, and Brock gets two. He works the cut, but of course Taker fights back. Corner clotheslines and big boot get two. Snake Eyes and another big boot get two. Ref gets wiped out and Undertaker gets the chokeslam, Matt Hardy does the useless run-in and gets killed, but Lesnar gets the MAIN EVENT SPINEBUSTER for two. Taker gets a DDT for two. Ref gets bumped for a second time, and everyone is out. Paul gives Brock a chair,he prevents it from being used and gives a NASTY chairshots Brock himself. Brock goes flying out of the ring again and Heyman gets beat up again. Back in, Taker pounds away and gets his FOURTH big boot of the match, and a legdrop for two. Brock comes back with the F5, but Taker of course blocks it, and they fight to a DDQ at 20minutes. which promptly gets booed out of the building. Undertaker of course beats up Brock after the match, too. An okayish match with a ridiculously overbooked non-finish. *1/2

Jeff Jarrett vs Kurt Angle TNA Slammiversary #1 Contenders Match

Gold Medal was also on the line. Decent action here but never really felt the match flowed. Not bad, though. ***

ROH Validation - ROH World Tag Titles: The American Wolves (w/Shane Hagadorn) vs. Bryan Danielson & Kevin Steen

This is the Wolves third defense. The match is announced as having a 45-minute time limit, . I guess Steen is replacing Tyler Black, or Danielson is replacing Generico cause the wolves took him out. Steen and Danielson jump the champions on the floor, as former ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness joins the commentary team. The challengers absolutely dominate the champions outside the ring, and Steen goes for a Package Piledriver on Richards through a table but can't connect. Steen then tries to hit one on Edwards in the ring, but Edwards back drops him through the table. Danielson and Edwards start the proper in the ring, with Danielson gaining the first advantage. He goes for the surfboard but Richards breaks it up with a high-angle belly-to-back suplex. Richards gets tagged in officially and unleashes kicks on Danielson's chest. Edwards also gets his chance to wear down Danielson, whose chest is already bleeding. On the floor Steen is starting to show signs of life. Edwards taunts Danielson and get slapped in the face and then otherwise abused. Even so Edwards is able to back Danielson into his corner and tag Richards. The assault on Danielson continues until he's able to hit a simultaneous dropkick, and Steen has made it back to the apron. Unfortunately for Danielson, Edwards drags Steen off the apron, further injuring his Steen's knee and also preventing the tag. Back in the ring Richards decides to start going after the leg, and locks Danielson in the Figure-Four Leglock. Edwards jumps off the top rope with a knee to Danielson, and then he kicks Steen back down to the floor. The champions use quick tags to continue working Danielson's leg, and trying to keep Steen off the apron. They go for the superkick / German suplex combo but Danielson avoids it and is finally able to make the tag to Steen. The Wolves both get thrown around, as Steen hits Richards with a powerbomb and goes for the Sharpshooter. Edwards breaks it up, but Steen catches him and hits a backpack senton on Richards. Funny, when he does that with Generico it doesn't hurt him. The champions soon recover and double-team Steen, but they're not able to hit a double suplex. Edwards tries a quebrada but Steen gets the knees up and Danielson illegally rejoins the ring with a missile dropkick, and then gets the legal tag to get back into the match. The referee has lost control of this one. Steen comes in illegally and hits the pump handle neckbreaker, and then Danielson locks Richards in the Triangle Choke. Meanwhile Steen locks Edwards in the Sharpshooter. Richards counters with a jackknife pin for two. He takes Danielson down and tags Edwards, who promptly kicks Steen down to the floor. The Wolves double-team Danielson, hitting stereo kicks, and then a super Doomsday Bulldog for two when Steen makes the save. Edwards goes for a leg submission on Danielson, who reverses it to a nasty looking arm submission, and Steen comes in with a Swanton bomb, breaking up the submission for some reason. The match has once again broken down, with all four men in the ring. Steen and Richards take their fight to the floor. In the ring Edwards tries the Chin checker on Danielson, but it gets reversed to the elbow strikes, which don't score the knockout and only get a two-count. Danielson then locks on the Cattle Mutilation, and then rolls it into a Tiger Suplex for two. He takes Edwards up top for the belly-to-back superplex, but Richards breaks that up with a super German suplex. Richards then hits a nasty suicide dive onto Steen. Edwards hits the Chin checker but it only gets two! He wastes some time, and Danielson locks on the triangle choke and hits some elbows. Edwards escapes that and hits a dragon screw and then locks on the Achilles Tendon Lock, and Danielson taps out. Good psychology surrounding the knee, and the faces never really got out of the blocks, so it was fun watching the Wolves dismantle Bryan Danielson. ***3/4 - ****

WWE No Mercy 2002 - World Tag Team Titles: Chris Jericho & Christian vs. Booker T & Goldust
Jericho had problems with Booker T, and the other two just kind of got sucked in by proxy. Booker starts with Christian, Booker gets a sidekick for two. Goldust comes in and gets a reverse crescent kick for two. Jericho tries and gets hit with a butt-butt, and he’s slingshotted out of the ring. Back in, he comes back with a missile dropkick for two. Goldust comes back with a clothesline on Jericho, but gets pulled back into enemy territory again. He gets a fluke rollup on Christian and a powerslam, as everyone continues to ignore the tag ropes! Hot tag Booker, and he’s a house afire. Forearm for Jericho and superkick for Christian, but Jericho uses a complex counter to the axe kick – he moves. Spine-buster gets two for Booker, however. Rollup gets two. Booker crotches himself, but Goldust comes back in to bat cleanup, and hits Christian with the Shattered Nuts. Jericho gets rolled up for two as a result. Jericho reverses the Curtain Call into the Walls (does anyone EVER hit that move anymore?), but Booker breaks it up with the axe kick, and Goldust gets two. Booker gets a missile dropkick on Jericho before doing an inopportune Spinarooni, but Jericho’s attempt to capitalize with his springboard dropkick BREAKS the second rope. :lmao They cover up pretty well, as Jericho bulldogs Goldust on the belt (despite clearly missing by a foot) and then a moonsault finishes it. Not bad, outside of the ring breaking down. **

WWE No Mercy 2002 - Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie
Torrie attacks on the outside, and they head in for some “clotheslines” from Torrie. Sunset flip gets two. Dawn jumps to the apron and necksnaps her, but Torrie gets an alleged baseball slide. Back in, Dawn stomps away and works the back. Dawn goes to the dreaded Cameltoe Clutch, and headbutts her for two. They do the catfight spot, Referee Mike Sparks gets steamrolled as their brawl gets out of control. Torrie suplexes her for two. Neckbreaker gets the pin. Not gonna lie this could of been allot worse. *1/2
