When it comes to self defense I think people have a right to protect themselves above all else. So I don't thin there should be much interpretation in that. Maybe just in what the state perceives self defense to be, but in my opinion people should be given leeway because if you make people afraid to defend themselves when they feel their lives are in danger more good people will be hurt more than anything.

I mostly just don't want any more 13 year olds shot at when they ring people's doorbells because they missed the bus

But I guess that woman did feel really threatened by him

If a kid rings the doorbell and you shoot them, I don't think that qualifies as self defense unless I read how he came to that conclusion.

There might be a history. I read recently of a woman who was savagely beaten by a teen that lived next door with a hammer.

And I don't believe innocent people should be murdered because people are scared someone else in their demographic murdered someone

Oh and that dude was sentenced to 4 years btw so obviously it wasn't interpreted as self defense, so good on that jury. But the fact that they even tried to make that argument lol I hope it was laughed out of court

If your door is right off the sidewalk and you knock on their door, I'm not sure that qualifies as being on their property. Especially if he knocked and the woman was talking to the kid and the husband then randomly fired at him. I haven't read the full article yet though. This is why I saw examples are always good.

How does it not qualify as being on their property though? I'm sure it would in every way a trespassing law is written

That just means you cant trespass on poor people's property bc they have no yard
