Who's to say the person wasn't just knocking on their door? If they're dead how do we know

We don't. But, like I said I'll take a few bad apples slipping thru over innocents being murdered in their homes because they can't defend themselves.

Because in both scenarios the victims are innocent, but you're okay with one happening only to prevent others. Does there have to be a trade-off? I mean probably yeah, but I wish people would at least ask that question sometimes to make sure
