SuperBrawl was their attempt to have a WrestleMania as I guess Turner didn't get Starrcade. It never works, but it is a flagpole event.

Didn't get Starrcade as in...? The right to it? Or they didn't understand the concept?

Remember those early 90s Starrcades where they did the Battlebowl gimmick WOAT idea

He didn't get the appeal of the name or it being November. He didn't think the concept was on that Mania level. So the first thign he did when they went from NWA to WCW only in 1991 was create SuperBrawl. The name is even a play on Super Bowl. He was banking on that event being the big draw. It wasn't, but they still booked top stuff on it every year.

I member Chris. Like I said, Turner gave zero fucks about Starrcade so he turned it into a BattleBowl show. Though tbf I did like the concept. Just not instead of Starrcade.

The only Starrcades in the 90s that I ever got a real WrestleMania style vibe from were 97 and 98.

Outside of that, I can't say it ever felt like a particularly big deal. Although Schiavone really tried to sell it as such in 99 and 00, I remember.

They were def building '99 as their biggest show too it felt like just going off those Thunders I just watched

Because Easy was smart. He knew Starrcade was bigger than SuperBrawl. So he booked those as the big events. Though Easy E often booked Halloween Havoc and Bash to be even bigger shows when you look at the entire time he ran WCW as they a lot of the time out drew Starrcade.

I imagine if you followed WCW and loved it, that might not have been the case. But for me, since I didn't watch this stuff as it happened, I don't get a "show of the year" vibe from watching them.

Yeah, 1999 was supposedly to be their biggest show ever. Hart and Goldberg had the potential to be a big deal if done right.

Yeah, actually, I'd count 99 in there too, just off the strength of Hart vs. Goldberg

I imagine Easy E thought Piper in 1996 was a big deal too, he just missed the mark.
