As far as I know it was just a fan that came into the ring. I remember that in 1997, it happened in 1996 too?

Yeah. Right at the end a fun jumps in the ring. Hogan and Patrick stomp for a second before security gets to him.

 

[Hoss]

Honestly, what the hell was this finish? Piper wins the match, leaves, Hogan and The Outsiders get into it with Giant, and the show ends with Hogan holding the belt and flexing.

WCW was kind of cool because of the disorganization, but there are a lot of times I wish their events were more well choreographed

You must have forgotten. So basically Piper got a match with Hogan, but Hogan didn't put the belt on the line. So Hall and Nash talk Hogan into putting Piper over, but it won't be a big deal because the angle is they steal the tape and Hogan never actually lost. They legit never show the replays ever again! Also, WCW is starting the split with Giant so he can win the right to face Hogan at Souled Out. Seems a bit early to me since it was supposed to be nWo for Life, but I guess they wanted to run Giant and Hogan again.

I loved WCW to pieces. Still my favorite promotion, but man they needed a better handle on things.

Ah. I see. Well, I was thrown off because I'm pretty sure Heenan said Hogan might still have the title but Piper is the champion.

That makes sense though. I'm jumping forward to SuperBrawl 1997 and they're doing Hogan vs. Piper again.

They never said it was non-title IIRC until the next night when Hall and Nash reveal they have the tape and Hogan claims he never lost to Piper and never lost the belt.

Yeah I'm trying to hit the "major events". Can't remember if SuperBrawl was that prestigious but it stuck around for the entirety of WCW so it had to have some prestige.

Since Bischoff ran WCW and the nWo they could pull stuff like that by claiming things after the fact. In Kayfabe.
