Yes the Halloween Havoc cage match was pretty tone deaf by WCW at a time when they were making a lot of good calls

I also didn't grow up with Piper either. He wasn't his best self when I started watching WWF and he was definitely past it by WCW.

I wouldn't have even sneezed at Flair in 1997 instead of Piper. They had matches before the nWo and then waited until what 1999 to do it but by then nWo was basically dying.

Piper was a good promo guy and I think he made good segments like Piper'S Pit with Snuka, and whatnot, but he's be a upper-midcard guy to me.

As a whole, I'm just really opposed to rival companies running rematches from other companies. Especially if the workers are past their prime.

I mean, if it's a small company running a match between two over the hill guys with a lot of history, cool. But when you're going head to head with a company that did the match bigger and better? Looks bush league.

I don't mind rival companies doing rematches with guys past what you might consider peak prime as long as they still draw and can somewhat go. Hogan was drawing insane money for WCW into early 1999 and his best days were long gone. Same with Savage. I actually think his feud with DDP reignited his fire and they killed it in 1997.

What I meant to say in that is Hogan/Savage feud was good. Hogan/Warrior not good. So it depends.

Hogan/Savage was fine but I'll take their 80s rivalry over it every time

But it is one rare exception where I feel like it wasn't a COMPLETE let down from their previous feud

Mega Powers is a classic for a reason, but man that Savage and Hogan tearing the nWo apart stuff was great. Probably the best thing about them doing the Wolfpac was that early stuff.

Was the fans jumping into the match supposed to be a thing in the Piper/Hogan feud or did it just happen to occur in both of their big WCW matches?

Fans got particularly crazy in the early nWo days. I remember Nash having to kick a few fans for coming into the ring. Another fan even tried to choke Raven and get killed by security.
