I'm sure it'll be similar to yours, 'cause our taste/opinions in wrestling are pretty much the same.

True, although I don't share your godlike worship of Hulk Hogan, everything else is pretty similar :tonguewink:

(every now and then, you have to wonder if a joke goes too far and how long I will be paying for said joke)

You won't be paying for anything, Mr. Rainmaker. You're forgiven only because of our mutual worship of John Cena!

Speaking of our dear Rainmaker, Okada, he'll eat up another loss, most likely to Nakamura.

They had to have Okada lose here, so that Nakamura would catch up with points and stuff...
Nakamura will also defeat Goto and keep the victories rollin' till the end of the tourney, I presume.

Okada would've never lost to Goto if it wasn't for Nakamura forfeiting his match against Elgin.

All of this makes sense to me and my gut's telling me Nakamura's winning this thing!

That's what I had been thinking, but currently Nakamura has 4 points and Okada, Ishii, Anderson and now Goto all have 6 in block b. If Nakamura pulls it off, it's going to take him sweeping his remaining matches and all four of those guys will have to lose at least 2 more matches. It's possible, I believe, but it is quite the uphill climb for Nakamura at this point. In the leftover matches, a lot of those 6 point holders are facing each other too. If Nakamura can pull it off, it will look damn impressive.

Time for me to be Mr. odd one out.

This G1 has been disappointing. I don't see this model for the tournament lasting.

Day 8 was a very good show!

- Yujiro vs Kojima was a decent show opener. **¼
I've said it before, but a 13 minute Yujiro match, I do not like watching.
[Gotta thank Kojima for making it watchable! Arigatou.]
I prefer my Yujiro matches in very short doses, like 3-5 minutes tops.
Also, Kojima losing to this lame ass turd in a crappy fashion is unacceptable. But, oh well.

- Machine Gun vs Nagata was good! ***
I liked this match, the pace and everything was good and all of it came together nicely.
However, the finish (Backdrop Hold countered into a Stun Gun) looked rough.

- Elgin vs Honma was a great 10 minute match! ****
They clicked so well here and it was fun to watch. Wow, never thought I'd say this about a Michael Elgin match.
The ending sequence was sick, though!
Elgin caught Honma with a delayed German Suplex, followed by a Pop-up Powerbomb, Buckle Bomb and finished him off with a Spinning Sit-out Powerbomb.
Anyways, I'm still hoping Honma will get the big W during the G1 and I want more of THIS Elgin.

- Swagsuke Nakamura vs Ishii was pretty good. ***½
They worked a pretty basic match, due to Naka's injury, which is understandable.
The homestretch was fun, though.
Naka pulling Flying Head Scissors into an Arm Bar, then finishing Ishii with Landslide and Boma Ye was awesome!
I'm worried about Nakamura's health, that arm was bandaged up and looked nasty, almost reminded me of Cena's elbow injury from 2 years ago.
If Nakamura's indeed scheduled to win the G1, then the rest of the G1 will be a difficult time for him.

- Goto vs Okada was a great, HQ main event! ****½
This, right here, felt like a battle of supremacy. IWGP IC champ vs IWGP Heavyweight champ.
Both guys worked hard and the match just had that big fight feel to it.
Everything they did mattered and the crowd was really into it.
I'm not the biggest Goto fan, but Okada had to lose here for an obvious reason... *cough* Nakamura *cough*
Also, the homestretch was satisfying and there was no screwy finish or anything. Top notch stuff.

Last show didn't have that great of a card, but every match exceeded my expectations. Still marking out for the Bad Luck Fall into Sleeper Hold reversal.

This may seem random but watching today's card, it's hard to believe Ibushi is 5 years older than Okada. Ibushi looks like a college student.

I hope I look that good when I'm 33 *looks around nervously*

Sorry for the off topic posts but this reminded me of a very embarrassing moment for me. When I was first learning Japanese, my sensei insisted that we use Japanese greetings and such whenever possible. So my sister and I went to a kaiten sushi restaurant that I love and when we went up to pay,.there were too old Japanese ladies at the counter. After paying, I said, "arigatou gozaimasu."

Both old ladies put their hands ovrr their mouths, started giggling and said, "arigatou gozaimasu! Hehe."

My sensei explained they were laughing because I was a customer using an extremely formal and honorific form of thank you so they laughed because it was "Foreigner's Japanese." Apparently, as the customer, I should have replied "Doomo."

I didn't speak Japanese at that restaurant for a year. The next time I spoke Japanese there, it ended up being to a Korean waitress who didn't speak any Japanese.

Fun times.

Day 9

Ibushi vs Tenzan. *** This was a decent match. Tenzan was off his game though. He messed up selling a drop kick, falling over a full second after contact was made. Ibushi's weakest match of the tournament but still all right.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Bad Luck Fale. *** the only reason this is getting a good score is for the reason Leo listed. Shibata reversing the bad luck fall into a sleeper hold was a thing of beauty for the Shibata victory. Shibata leads all competitors with 8 points.

AJ Styles vs. Doc Gallows *** This mostly got good when AJ got going on the offense. Still, it wasn't anything to jump up and down about. It does look like AJ is making a serious run for this block though with a win.

Togi Makabe vs. Tetsuya Naito *** 1/2. I become a bigger fan of Naito every time I see him. His current persona is one of the best heel characters in wrestling. The simple act of taking his ring gear off slowly just gets everyone in an uproar. Plus I loved when he ran across the ring but rather than attempting a suicide dive, just flopped down in the middle of the ring. Brilliant. This was the best match on a rather average card. I would have preferred a Naito win, but no big deal.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Toru Yano *** Tanahashi could probably wrestle a mannequin and make it a good match. Wait, he's even better than that. He could probably wrestle Hulk Hogan and make it a good match. I have to admit to liking Yano hiding under the ring to avoid getting hit with a top rope move. Also, Red Shoes had an awesome reaction when the match almost ended in a double count out. This wasn't the best match for Red Shoes though. I'm not sure because it was off camera, but did Tanahashi accidentally hit Red Shoes with the chair when he tossed it out of the ring,

Day 9 was good, despite not having any MOTYC or must see stuff.
It was just an easy show to sit back and watch.

- Ibushi vs Tenzan was one of the better show openers of the tourney thus far. ***
It wasn't the same underwhelming stuff we normally get, IMO.
Sure, Tenzan had some selling issues, but what the hell, they worked the best match they could here.

- Shibata vs Fale was enjoyable. ***½
The only reason I'm giving this match a high score is because Shibata made me enjoy a BLF match.
The match was rather simple and basic, Shibata sold Fale's offense really well and the crowd was into it.
Highlight of the match was Shibata countering Bad Luck Fall into a Sleeper Hold and then PK! Goodnight, Mr. Fale.
Also, I giggled a little bit at the announcer for stumbling over a 17 count (when Shibata was outside).

- AJ vs Doc was good, thanks to AJ being a carryjob machine. ***
Oh, and we had some John Cena moments of the night!
AJ was calling the spots loudly, that's what you get when there's no live commentary to cover it up.

- Makabe vs Naito was pretty good. ***½
Other than Makabe defeating Naito, I have no complaints.

- Tanahashi vs Yano was a really good and fun ME. ***½
Sometimes Yano annoys me and I wasn't thrilled to see him go against Tana for a 20th time this year, but I actually enjoyed this match.
Ace Tana worked his ass off and sold all of Yano's heel tricks well, including that Running Cross Body into the steel post. He is just on another level. Degrading him earlier this year has freshened him up and was helpful.
Also, I LOL'd so hard when Tana went to the top rope and prepared for a (High Fly Flow?), but Yano was like "Nah, to hell with that. I'm gonna hide under the ring!"
All in all, fun match. The crowd was into it, everything worked out well and the right man won!
All is right in the world.

Oh, and shout-out to Red Shoes for being the GOAT.

Outside of Shibata/Fale, day 9 wasn't really worth watching. Blcok A is in shambles now since all the big matches are just about done with halfway through the tournament. This is a problem when they topload one block in this big a tournament and then just burn through the big matches, a lot of shows are going to be skippable.

After catching up on July's All Japan shows I can easily say that AJPW blew NJPW away quality wise that month.
