Surprising to see people dismissing some of these shows and matches. I, for one, welcome the hardcam concept because it's a true test of our markdom. Champion Carnival 2013 had nine shows, with only the first and the last one being on Samurai, the rest was all no commentary hardcams. It makes us focus on ringwork and nothing else, it also brings to the light which wrestlers' offense doesn't benefit from multi-cam setups and angle editing. For example, Karl Anderson and Hirooki Goto do their stuff with an incredible technical precision.

Day 2 was awesome:

Ishii/Kojima ***3/4
Yujiro/Goto **3/4
Honma/Nagata ***3/4
Elgan/Okada ***3/4 (Okada is a carryjob machine)
Karru/Shinsuke ****

Day 3 was even better:

Doc/Kota ***3/4
Fale/Makabe **3/4
AJ/YTR ***1/2
Naito/Shibata ****
Tenzan/Tanashi **** (Tenzan~!)

Day 4 was not as good, but I still enjoyed it:

Yujiro/Ishii **3/4
Elgan/Kojima ***
Karru/Goto ***1/2
Nakamura/Nagata ***1/4
Honma/Okada ***3/4

Day 5 was super groovy but I'll have to rewatch it in order to rate it properly.

I've fallen a bit behind since my days are filled with vacation stuff, but I only have today to catch up on right now.

Day 4 wasn't bad at all.
This whole fixed camera deal, it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.
Plus, it provided me a new perspective, a different POV of the match.

- Ishii vs Takahashi was a bit jejune. But, at least the right guy won.

- Kojima vs Elgin was a rock solid match. The finish felt kinda clunky, though.

- Anderson vs Goto was decent. Shouten Kai countered into Stun Gun was a nice finish.
On another note, Goto's new outfit looks bitchin', love it!

- Swagsuke vs Nagata was good. The good news is, King of Strong Style picked up the win here.
I'm glad Gedo wasn't drunk when he was booking Day 4 and allowed Nakamura to win.

- Okada vs Honma was MOTN in my view. Stellar stuff.

I agree about the stationary camera. Honestly the first night they did this, I hadn't noticed until it was mentioned here. It was basically like attending a live event since you had no camera and no commentary and I love going to live events when I can.

Fortunately I've been able to watch them all live but I was so busy afterwards yesterday that I didn't get a chance to say much.

Pretty much all day 5 tournament matches were entertaining. I wouldn't say that the first three were anything great, but I still enjoyed them.

But AJ Styles vs Kota Ibushi
was spectacular. Not only was it match of the night, but it ranks second best of the tournament so far behind Ibushi's match with Tanahashi. ****

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tetsuya Naito was also really good, but still a little less good than the previous match. *** 1/2

While AJ/Kota was great and much better than their title match from April, for me and my tastes Naito/Tana was even better, it was a masterful piece of character work and storytelling.

I can't disagree with the storytelling comment at all, it definitely was that. I guess I ranked Ibushi's match with AJ as being better was simply because it had me a bit more on the edge of my seat. I'm not particularly sure why since I like both wrestlers, but it was just something about it.

Day 5 was extremely enjoyable. Well, the last 3 card matches, to be exact.

- Fale vs Doc was a yawn fest, not a good show opener at all.

- Yano vs Tenzan was decent.

- Shibata vs Makabe was so much fun. I enjoyed seeing these two just stiffing the heck out of each other.

- Ibushi vs AJ Styles was fun-tastic, even better than their title match at Invasion Attack, I'd say.
Man, I loved this match! It was one of the best matches of the tournament so far.

- Naito vs Tanahashi was an awesome, enjoyable ME!

Day 3 I dig this camera, I mean, I dont mind if there's commentators or not but to me, cameras are pretty important
Kota Ibushi vs. Doc Gallows *** (I was actually surprised by this one. Good effort)
Togi Makabe vs. Bad Luck Fale ** (Erm, didnt like this at all)
AJ Styles vs. Toru Yano *** (Had way too fun with this one. Yano worked pretty hard)
Tetsuya Naito vs. Katsuyori Shibata *** 3/4 (Really in love with this match. They way Shibata sold the arm and the leg. The new attitude of Naito, how it all clashed, the finish, everything. I know it wasn't a classic but damn it, I really liked it)
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan *** 1/2 (There match at the 2006 (I believe) finals was really good. This match was solid but won't be one of those matches people will talk about when the tournament is over)

Day 4
Hard camera although this time it was way bettter.
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Yujiro Takahashi ** 1/4 (Oh Yujiro...At least it was short)
Satoshi Kojima vs. Michael Elgin *** 1/2 (Really enjoyed this match, I believe both men did a hell of a Job)
Karl Anderson vs. Hirooki Goto *** 1/4 (Started slow but those 2 last minutes were insane)
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Yuji Nagata *** (Didn't like at all the way it ended. They tried to rush everything. Expected more.)
Kazuchika Okada vs. Tomoaki Honma *** 1/2 (Solid match although I expected a Classic. Honma always makes us believe he's going to get the win)

Day 5

Bad Luck Fale vs. Doc Gallows *** (I actually liked how they tried to work this match. It was simple but well done)
Toru Yano vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan ** 1/4 (PRO RASSLING IS REAAAAAAAAAL)
Katsuyori Shibata vs. Togi Makabe *** 1/2 (It was a light-PG version of Ishii vs. Shibata)
Kota Ibushi vs. AJ Styles **** 1/4 (Oh hell yes, the athleticism, the drama, the nearfalls, those sick counters, the pace, everything. Couldnt catch my breath. That was awesome and a MOTYC for me)
Tetsuya Naito vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi **** (That was some classic wrestling. The storytelling was superb, Naito looked like a TOP heel and a legit big dog. Tanahashi is just Tanahashi, you know he's going to bring it. I didn't like how it ended so that's why i've rated lower than the previous match)

So yeah, Day 5 was by far the best night.

Tomorrow,

Yuji Nagata vs. Yujiro Takahashi

Hirooki Goto vs. Tomoaki Honma

Tomohiro Ishii vs. Karl Anderson

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Michael Elgin

Satoshi Kojima vs. Kazuchika Okada

I guess that makes Nakamura 1-2 then? Hmmm.

I thought today's show was decent. It wasn't anything to write home about. But no one in my family watches Japanese wrestling other than me,so if I did write home about it, no one would probably care.

Yuji Nagata vs. Yujiro Takahashi was sort of average but not boring. ** 1/2

Hirooki Goto vs. Tomoaki Honma had some pretty good fighting in it. I can't say I was very impressed but it was fun to watch so ***

Tomohiro Ishii vs. Karl Anderson was a bit more enjoyable than I thought it would be ***

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Michael Elgin Was the fastest paced wrestling match I have ever seen in my life. I mean, this match was SO fast that I didn't even catch the ring entrances. It was like the Flash wrestling Superman.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Satoshi Kojima was nothing special, but was decent. I kind of expected a bit more from these two ***

I can't say I mind Okada being 3-0 in the tournament so far. It's raining men!.... ah, I mean, uh, Let it Rain! Yeah, that's the ticket....

So sad Kojima lost.

I was expecting him to win. I don't expect Okada to be the first reigning champ to be in the finals since 2007, so I thought they might get a loss out of the way early on, but I suppose not.
