I was expecting him to win. I don't expect Okada to be the first reigning champ to be in the finals since 2007, so I thought they might get a loss out of the way early on, but I suppose not.
Yeah, I also had that sneaky feeling because I also don't think he's going to the finals. Would've been a mark out moment for sure, but oh well. I think Nagata's gonna beat him.

My thoughts on today's matches:

Yano vs Gallows **1/2. As is usual for Yano's matches, it was enjoyable for what it was. Though I would have preferred Gallows getting the low blow because his constant swinging of the belt from his crotch annoys the hell out of me. But this was basically a basic Yano match.

Makabe vs Tenzan **1/2 Again, it was good for what it was but was not really my cup of tea.

Shibata vs Ibushi **** This match was over a lot quicker than I thought it would be, but it was a fun fast paced short match. Definitely the weakest of Ibushi's matches so far. It was a really fun match, but I just found the run time of about 13 minutes just way too short for what these guys could have done. I would have liked about another 5 minutes of back and forth. Shibata's finishing combo was pretty cool. Don't get me wrong, it was a really good match but had a very sudden and stilted ending.

Tanahashi vs Fale ***1/2 Watching this match reminded me of why Tanahashi is the closest thing to 1980's Ric Flair in today's wrestling world. Tanahashi can take a subpar wrestler and make him seem a lot better when they are in the ring together. This was entertaining. And how about Red Shoes? He must be the fastest recovering referee in the history of wrestling.

Styles vs Naito ***1/2 I got to say that I am loving the new Naito the more I see him. Kudos to Styles, however, when he was cheering Naito for finally getting his ring gear off.

I've been thinking Naito stands a good chance of making it to the finals.

And more punishment for Red Shoes. This guy just didn't have a great night.

Day 6 was decent.

- The show opener, Takahashi vs Nagata was OK, at best. The match should've been shorter, though.
Watching a 12 minute match featuring Yujiro feels like eternity.
The guy does absolutely nothing for me, and hell, not even Nagata (who I'm a big fan of) couldn't get me invested in this match.
Yujiro over Nagata is just unacceptable for me. But, oh well...

- Goto vs Honma was pretty good. But, dammit! They had me fall for it again.
I thought Honma was gonna win. One day, this bastard is finally gonna win and it'll be a fabulous day!
Hopefully he defeats Elgin, at least!

- Ishii vs Machine Gun was good.
But, the thing is, Karl shouldn't have been made to look like a threat by defeating Nakamura and Goto (two of the top guys in B Block he's faced up until that point) only to lose here. I'm more than happy Ishii won and it's not like Karl losing to Ishii will downgrade him, but still... Should've lost to Nakamura, dammit!

- LOL, Elgin with the biggest victory of his career. Swagsuke was so scared, he didn't even wanna show up.
All joking aside, I'm worried about Nakamura. Hopefully he gets better real quick and comes back to somehow win this thing!

- Okada vs Kojima was a decent ME.

Day 7 was an overall good show.

- Doc vs Yano was amusing enough. **

- Makabe vs Tenzan was a solid match, leaning towards good. **½

- Shibata vs Ibushi was great and massively enjoyed! MOTYC and best match of the tourney so far! ****¾
The match should've been 5 mins longer, though and it would've been flawless.

- Fale vs Tanahashi was pretty good. ***¼
Even though I find Fale unwatchable (just like Yujiro) and hated Fale winning here, but this was the best Fale match since working with Okada, so thank you, Tanahashi!
Also, LOL'd at BLF almost falling off the ropes when he went for his own High Fly Flow.

- El Ingobernable Naito vs AJ was a very good ME. ***½
Naito closed the night with a promo and then beat down Red Shoes again.
Gotta love his new persona.

And last, but not least... I feel bad for Red Shoes for having to deal with so much crap during the show.

Day 8

Satoshi Kojima vs. Yujiro Takahashi **1/2

Yuji Nagata vs. Karl Anderson *** I was surprised I liked this. I usually really don't like any match with Anderson's name on it, but this was a nice hard hitting brawl.

Michael Elgin vs. Tomoaki Honma ***1/2 This was a very fun and fast paced match. I didn't have a horse in this race, but it was fun to watch.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Tomohiro Ishii ***1/2 ,I loved Nakamura's flying head scissors into an arm bar. It's good to see Nakamura back and on a win too.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Hirooki Goto **** Well I knew Okada had to eventually lose a match, but it was not a pleasant experience.

Everything before the pin fall was great though. This was an excellent main event.

Okada's first dropkick in this match was good even compared to his own. Goto got an excellent block on the 2nd rainmaker attempt.

Did our lovable babyface Honma defeat Elgin?! That's all I wanna know.

Odd that I didn't put that in. Nope. The victory went to Elgin,

:nooo:

Dammit! I thought I was at least gonna witness Honma defeat Elgin for his first (and only) victory of the tourney. fml

Too bad he's not in block A, he would get to go up against Yano and that would be a possible win.

Yeah, shame.

But anyways, I'm looking forward to watching Day 8 tomorrow! Judging by your review, it sounds like a good show.

Nakamura's so obviously banged up.

I hope he doesn't get pulled from the tourney. If he's scheduled to win and has to leave due to elbow injury (God forbid!), then it'd be bad news for New Japan.
