Matthew Vaughn has signed on to direct a sequel to X-Men: First Class. According to Deadline, Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand) will write the script and Bryan Singer will return to produce. X-Men: First Class was terrific and I’m glad that Vaughn will return for the sequel. I’m also excited to see what he’ll do with (hopefully) a bigger budget and more production time. It’s a little surprising that Vaughn’s frequent collaborator Jane Goldman hasn’t signed on to pen the screenplay, but it’s possible that she’ll come on board later in the process.

Now we can let the speculation begin about what the sequel holds in store. Vaughn said in May that he would like the second movie would open with the JFK assassination and Magneto controlling the “magic bulletâ€. Indulging conspiracy theorists aside, I’m curious to see which new mutants will the fray. If the movie is set in 1963, it’s probably too early to see Cyclops and Jean Grey kicking around Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

Looks like the green light is given and we will have a sequel.

Re: Matthew Vaugn to direct the X-Men: First Class Sequel

That part about how the next film would open with the Kennedy assassination and have Magneto controlling the magic bullet made me....

:Facepalm1:

That better not be how it starts or I'll seriously walk out of the theatre.

You know you would love it. But yeah I have no interest in seeing the Kennedy assassination in that manner.

If that is how it opens, or has any part of the movie I will not watch it. Not that it is in bad taste or anything, but more so that it is completely stupid.

lol, the excitement for having the same team involved is quickly disappearing I see.

Good news that Vaughen is back for the sequel, the first one was immense so hopefully more of the same.

First Class was ok if you don't care about the continuity at all.

It kept it for the most part, although Prof. X & Mystique growing up together was pretty strange since it's never been mentioned in the later films.

Really the thing about X-Men is that it has had so many different back stories and so many writers that there isn't a whole lot of continuity, even in the comics. One of the reasons that I liked First Class. About the only continuity they have had is Professor X and Magneto.

I have a confession to make, I've not seen the First Class prequel. I take it I should?

Re: Matthew Vaugn to direct the X-Men: First Class Sequel

Yes I think it should be watched. It was a solid outing in the X-Men franchise.

With Matthew Vaughn returning (and this just hit me), I wonder what actress he will get pregnant this time around.

Nope. I would love to see him knock up a guy though.
