The ultimate dream match could potentially become a reality.

According to Fightful Select, there are several people within WWE who are pushing for CM Punk to battle Stone Cold Steve Austin at some point in the future, with these same sources indicating that the match could actually happen. Apparently Punk has even had discussion about the possibility now that he’s back with WWE.

One source tells Fightful that Punk has already pitched a few ideas to WWE to work with The Rattlesnake, although it is not known how deep those conversations went. The ideal scenario would reportedly see Punk fly to wherever Austin is to go over potential storylines. It is noted that while that is the “idea scenario” there’s “a lot to get through first.”

Punk and Austin did interact a number of times in Punk’s first WWE run, including a legendary promo battle when promoting WWE 2K13. The two have maintained a good relationship over the years and have stayed in touch over text message in that time.​

I don't know how to feel about this possibility. I don't know what new stuff or greatness Austin/Punk could do that KO/Austin didn't already do at Wrestlemania. Still name value wise you have me at the Door though let's see how this further develops going forward.

Match wise it wouldn’t be anything special, but the attraction and spectacle would be there. We never got the Austin/Hogan match and that one is definitely too late so if this one can be done, let’s do it.

Basically what I was saying. We never got to check that Austin dream match with Hogan off so if another one with Punk is now possible, get it done.

I want to see this. but I don't want this to happen. Austin had the perfect final match at WrestleMania 38 in the Main Event in his home stadium pinning Kevin Owens. I'd rather not ruin it with another match, even if it's a dream match like Austin/Punk.

That's my biggest worry, even if the match is fine I don't think it can be better. I think the build would have to be absolutely fantastic, and not like KO where Austin never actually showed up. It has to be a generational feud with back and forth promos, not just the one match
