You and me both. I have always said this was WWE's biggest mistake and my regret. I know it would have worked because WCW always had a cult following and if WWE could have attracted a tiny portion of their audience to it, they'd be much bigger than the SmackDown! brand or TNA.

I think they could have and don't know why they didn't other than to destroy them for beating them for so long. I think a WCW show even now would garner attention and think that they could lobby to get some airtime elsewhere on another station which would allow them to bring in some new fans and use some of their better talent on it. I think they could then use the extra titles there and go to one set of titles on Raw and Smackdown. They have the roster size for it and some of the people from WCW to get it off the ground, like Dusty and Flair. I still think they should.
