Maybe Oakland surprises me, but I still don't see it, and a guy who pitches 2 good starts against bad teams isn't selling me.

Hey numbnuts, it's not just those two starts that I'm basing the excitement off of. He was a high pick and has always been a top 50 prospect. He set the team record for Ks in a season by a rookie. I've always known he could be special if he could stay healthy. His stuff last night wasn't just 'hey, this guy is mowing down a bad lineup' it was filthy, no hit level stuff. The fact that he looks so good coming off of Tommy John surgery is a great sign no matter who he's facing.

2 games up for first place in the AL WC Race. Only 3 games back in the West division. I think we have the 2nd best record in the AL

currently up 1 run on LA in a tight game

A hard schedule that last month of the season during the time when they'll be within a few games of the Wild Card really sucks though, you can't compare that to a team with a milder schedule that's also vying for a WC. I'd rather play a tough schedule in August than September any day.

For Example: Let's say Detroit is in it for the WC too. They do play the White Sox 5 times in September and the Angels 3 times, plus the three against Oakland, but then they have:

vs Cleveland
@ Cleveland
@ Minnesota
vs Minnesota
@ Kansas City
vs Kansas City

If the A's and Tigers are close at the end, the advantage is swung heavily in Detroit's favor, as they play 6 against a terrible team, and 12 against pretty mediocre teams.

And if you're one of the people who thinks the White Sox are flukes, then I guess count those games as easy for Detroit (and they might be since the Sox seem to never be able to beat Detroit this season).

No way Oakland makes the playoffs in my opinion. The angels are the clear favorite for Wild Card.
