Hey, at least I don't think that the teams spending over 30 million dollars on a team are in the minority, or reference the Packers in a conversation about baseball...

BA doesnt mean shit, but who cares about HR when your player also is a league leader in strikeouts. Fiers for the Crew is leading the league in ERA and is dominant for 10% of the price of peavy, but #s dont mean shit. Your team is getting wins for now, and congrats, however you have 0 chance of going anywhere in playoffs, and apparently your mentality is all or nothing. You could have said the last 50 years because thats how long since WI has had a WS win, and you beat the great houston Astros with Clemens at his peak on roids. Congrats. We have so much money spent for the same reason the cubs still have a decent payroll, we dropped players that cost us money still over time. You can be happy with who you are, but my team is full of FANS, not people who turn on their coach/players within half a season like yours. Adam Dunn has been a flop, so has Peavy. Again, talk to me in October when you are in the same position as my team.

__________

I said 30mil over. Was talking about the price difference from 2005 when the brewers were much less than your team. The packers are the only team we have here, and its neat that 2 new members are on each others dicks like that. As i said, we will see where you are in October. I know what my team is doing.

Who said I turned on anybody? And I don't care that Dunn leads the league in strikeouts, because that would mean that a K was different than any other out. It's better than a groundout that could turn into a double play, and worse than a fly ball that could be a sac fly. Besides, Dunn leads the league in Walks as well, and is 4th in RBIs. Clearly he's producing even if he strikes out.

Also, if you win the division, don't you have a 25% chance of making it to the World Series....How is that 0% as you claim?

I'm done arguing about White Sox or Brewers, on the count of I never even bashed the Brewers in this thread. So I'll get things back on a roll by saying this:

I don't think Oakland can keep up their record in the division they play in. Also, the quality of teams vying for the wild card will be too much for them I feel.

The season ends today? I said your fanbase, not you specifically.

Anyway....I think the A's have been pretty good this year, but I think they can't pass in the powerhouse AL.

Yea, no way Oakland makes the playoffs. I mean, they are only the hottest team in the world and leading the WC race at this moment. They have good starting pitching, a great pen, and are clutch as fuck at the plate. How could they ever make the playoffs? Just because you haven't heard of many of the players doesn't mean they aren't a good team.

I'm really hoping we find an extra bat somewhere today before the trade deadline though.

oh and with Texas losing lately Oakland is now only 3.5 back in the division. Watch your 6 Texas

With the AL Powerhouse of LA, Texas, Baltimore, Tampa, and hell maybe even Boston (doubt it) I just don't see Oakland making the Wild Card, are they hot right now? Absolutely. I would love to see them make it, them or Bal...but with the Angels pitching staff I think they are the clear favorite.

lol @ those teams being powerhouses. The only powerhouse in the AL this year has been New York. Everyone else has been up and down. LA is tough but they are far from unbeatable. Baseball is a funny sport, and when teams get hot and start believing in themselves good things happen for them.

I've heard people like you say this about the A's in the past when they were strong in the earlier parts of the 2000s. We get hot in July and people don't buy in, or say it won't last. You are only basing your opinion on pay roll or big names, so I'm not too offended by your assessment which is born out of ignorance. Honestly, without Google, please name me as many Athletics as you can.

So I'm ignorant to think the best pitching staff on paper in baseball won't win the wild card based off my opinion? You're right, baseball is a strange sport. Hell, who thought thr Cards would sneek their way in the playoffs and then sneek a WS win...pretty much nobody. I would like to see the A's win, they are a small market team who always have had fight in them. They shocked me getting Cespedes in the offseason though. They have a pretty damn tough schedule coming up, I personally don't have them winning the Wild Card but it sure wouldn't upset me either if they did.

Oakland and LA will be the two teams. Anything can happen in a one day playoff. It's basically a 50/50 chance of who will win on that one day

The A's are good, and they'll challenge, but their lhot streak doesn't mean a guarantee. The Tigers just had one, the white Sox had one, teams go on highs and lows throughout the season

You're never as good as your hottest or as bad as your coldest, but usually in between. It'll be tough for them because the sox and tigers play in a bad division and Oakland is in a tough one, which makes wins harder to come by. Then toss in Baltimore and Tampa and it's a tough road.

We'll see though, I'd like them to make it.

__________

They also have one hell of a schedule in September (and the three games in October).

They play Boston (which could be good or bad, they're a streaky team that's been playing a bit better lately)

After that though:

3 vs Anaheim
3 @ Seattle
4 @ Anaheim
3 vs Baltimore
3 @ Detroit
3 @ New York
4 @ Texas
3 @ Seattle
3 vs Texas

The stretch of 10 straight against teams that are at or around first place is going to be make or break, and with only 6 games against a team with a sub-.500 record they will have to sustain everything. So like I said, it'll really be a test, and that's why I don't think they can keep it up.

lol I'm not sweating it. Every team in the AL is going to be playing tough teams more often than not. Next month we open with Toronto, and after LA we get Cleveland, Kansas City, Minnesota, Cleveland again..

A hard schedule that last month of the season during the time when they'll be within a few games of the Wild Card really sucks though, you can't compare that to a team with a milder schedule that's also vying for a WC. I'd rather play a tough schedule in August than September any day.

For Example: Let's say Detroit is in it for the WC too. They do play the White Sox 5 times in September and the Angels 3 times, plus the three against Oakland, but then they have:

vs Cleveland
@ Cleveland
@ Minnesota
vs Minnesota
@ Kansas City
vs Kansas City

If the A's and Tigers are close at the end, the advantage is swung heavily in Detroit's favor, as they play 6 against a terrible team, and 12 against pretty mediocre teams.

And if you're one of the people who thinks the White Sox are flukes, then I guess count those games as easy for Detroit (and they might be since the Sox seem to never be able to beat Detroit this season).

Nah, I think Chicago is good as is Detroit, but IMO only one of those two will make the playoffs. The KY trade was great for Chicago
