Who's filling in for Lawler at NOC

Cole's basically the Smackdown color guy with Matthews doing play-by-play, so I didn't think that was the problem. I just didn't see Cole and JR working together so well.

They could just have guest commenators each week and if something sticks then run with it.

I wouldn't even mind some celebrities doing it, would be more interesing than the run of the mill guest host plug-the-movie-in-skit-with-Santino and leave routine.

I still say that long-term, Cole and Josh are a fine team, they are on Smackdown at least. They have Striker and Regal who are both great color guys as well. Scott Stanford could maybe do a little more, though I'm not a fan of him at all, but I do like the stories he makes up for the Superstars matches he announces so they don't seem like randomly thrown-together matches.

I would have preferred it if Jim Ross was commentating simply because he makes every match seem important. JBL isn't bad, infact he's brilliant but with all the work JR does for WWE behind the scenes it a bit of a kick in the teeth to be honest. Maybe WWE view JBL as a better commentator than JR which he is not. The other reason could be down to Linda McMahon and her political run. I seem to remember JR was brought up and was used against McMahon for the bullying of his Bells Palsy illness.

Or the WWE could turn to one of their current wrestlers, a guy that they think speaks eloquently and can add some color commentary. I think Jim Ross could work well against Cole's heel gimmick. But I don't think that's really what they need. Jim Ross is a great broadcaster, but I see him more in the lead announcer role when it comes to rasslin'. Cole is their lead guy for the foreseeable future, so I think they need to find guys that work off Cole well.

JBL possibly could, but JBL was better as a heel color guy. I'm really not sure it plays well against Cole's current gimmick.

I think they should go in a very different direction. If there was a face that is injured or not working a lot of TV or PPV, that would be someone I'd like to see them try working with Cole.

Yeah, JBL and King have both confirmed that JBL will be taking his place tonight on Twitter.

JBL will be doing commentary on Raw tomorrow. He is being considered a "guest" announcer internally and the idea is he is just in for a short time until Jerry Lawler is cleared to return to announcing.
JBL will be continuing his mountain climbing excursions, so he isn't planned for every Raw going forward right now, just tomorrow's taping

It was a nice surprise seeing JBL on the PPV and he was fantastic. Really refreshing to have a commentator that puts over the wrestlers. Good to hear that he will be commentating RAW tomorrow as well.

Can imagine WWE will have someone different every week, in that case. JR and Mick Foley are two others I guess will be filling in.

Apparently Piper and Honky Tonk Man have offered to fill in if WWE wants them. They always want exposure those two.

Foley and JR make sense as replacements, wouldn't mind seeing Regal get a shot as well.

On RAW tonight Michael Cole was joined by JBL and by JR.

What did people think of this threesome? Do you think that this combination will continue in the coming weeks?

Thought they worked fine as 3, although I wouldn't be surprised to see them stick with Cole & JR every week to give the show some consistency but also bringing in a special guest every to join them.

Isn't JBL having to miss next Raw no matter what to climb a mountain?
Didn't know that was next week in which case it'll probably just be JR and Cole. Would really like that 3 man team to stay though really enjoyed it.
