I was just checking out the other movies in the list. A Dark Truth has a pretty good cast (Forest Whitaker, Andy Garcia, Steven Bauer) but its also directed by the dude who made Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe, so yeah, it might have some problems.

I wouldn't mind watching Texas Chainsaw either, but not if I don't have a choice to watch it in 2D.

Here are the films coming out today and this weekend:

Gangster Squad Jan 11
A Haunted House Jan 11
Zero Dark Thirty Jan 11
Struck by Lightning Jan 11
The Baytown Outlaws Jan 11
Horrid Henry: The Movie Jan 11
Storage 24 Jan 11
In Another Country Jan 11

Gangster Squad looks like the only one I would be interested in other than that the rest seem pretty boring or weird/

Edit: I take that back Zero Dark Thirty looks decent too.

What is it with Kathryn Bigelow making USA propaganda films? First The Hurt Locker and now Zero Dark Thirty. Too bad for her that the US is pulling out of Iraq, she's losing all her material.

I wanted to see Gangster Squad until I read a couple of reviews that say its poop. Now I'll probably just wait for the Blu Ray. As for the other films, my thoughts after reading up on them...

A Haunted House - It's a Wayans movie that seems to spoof Paranormal Activity. It could be good for a few laughs but that's about it.

Struck by Lightning - Concerning a kid who gets struck and killed by lightning and recounts a tale of how he conned his classmates into contributing to his magazine. Actually sounds funny as hell.

The Baytown Outlaws - Billy Bob Thornton, Michael Rappaport, Andre Braugher, Zoe Bell and Eva Longoria in the same movie? The plot? Redneck brothers help save a woman and her son from her abusive father. I'm fucking there, this sounds great!

Horrid Henry: The Movie - Erm, no.

Storage 24 - Saw the trailer for this before Texas Chainsaw. It's about people trapped in a storage unit with a monster (that they show in the trailer no less). Could be a renter.

In Another Country - A South Korean film about French tourists? Not really my cup of tea but could be solid.

This weeks new releases:

Mama Jan 18
The Last Stand Jan 18
Broken City Jan 18
LUV Jan 18
Officer Down Jan 18
Hors Satan Jan 18
Birders: The Central Park Effect Jan 18
Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation Jan 18

Mama is the main interest here for me. That is the one I want. Looks dark and something a little different.

As with last week, I read up and watched trailers for as many of these movies as I could. Here's my thoughts...

Mama - Hey, GDT doing horror, how bad can it be?

The Last Stand - Arnold looks old and he even says so in the trailer. Ouch.

Broken City - Crowe and Wahlberg in a recycled plot.

LUV - Awesome cast of great black actors, which assures it will be seen by no one.

Officer Down - Holy fuck! Walton Goggins, Stephen Dorff, Stephen Lang, James Woods, David "Angel" Boreanz and Tommy Flanagan? I'm fucking THERE!!!

Hors Satan - Avant-garde film which means it will suck but some doucher will try to explain how it represents an emotional balance between the subtext of life and the inability to create personal growth or change.

Birders: The Central Park Effect - It's a documentary, but it looks hilarious.

Greenwich Village: Music That Defined a Generation - Snore.

I've had this movie for almost two months. Still haven't watched it though.

Why haven't you watched it yet? Not much interest in it?

No, just that I had a lot of other stuff to watch and it never really got to the top of the pile. It's got Charlie Sheen so it could be pretty decent.

Or it could be really bad. He is pretty hit and miss with his films. He usually has a good one then a bad one then a good one. Never know though.

Given that I can't remember his last one, it must have been bad so this one could be good.
