Anyway here's a question for people to consider-What matches from any BTB past or present if they were to take place in real life would earn either 4 or 5 stars or be a match of the year candidate? One that stands out in my mind is Joe vs. Punk from the first Pride MTV Show.

Also XBA's Goldberg vs. Undertaker would get a decent star rating.

When I think five star matches, I'd say:

The Undertaker versus Goldberg on RAW AFTER Unforgiven.

Randy Orton versus Triple H for the BTW Championship in the Ironman match at Starrcade I believe.

I always loved Chris Jericho versus Rosey in the LMS match at Doomsday in HEW.

Anigma's Triple H versus Randy Orton at WM 24 was always a good, and fun read.

The Fatal Four Way match in NEW's Redemption, with AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and John Cena. Awesome match.

John Cena versus The Rock by both XBA, and Anigma were both amazing.

One that also just never leaves my mind was Team PRIDE versus Team AOTF I think it was. I remember the stapling of Foley's back, and a bunch of crazy shit.

It took me 2 hours to add color and quotes to the show for the first time and it all got lost.


Now, I'm taking it slow. The show is already done, but now I am doing the colouring on Word so that I don't lose anything.



It's not a happy task to add color to more than 100 word pages

But yeah I wouldn't have patience for 100 pages of coloring, bolding and italics and etc. I would be like fuck that half way.

Edit -- Just double checked, my recent PPV Turning Point was about 33 pages.

100 pages is fucking ridiculous, honestly. I don't think that you really have to go that far, because people would be on your dick by page 69. (I think I've said something like that before) But you did, so I applaud you for that. But if you honestly think that someone is in the right mind to read/review/even skim through 100 pages of Word, it's delusional.

I don't really know what would be 4 or 5 stars. I don't believe in a star rating, (astarmatchratingist) but I think it would be tough to see what match written would be nice in real life. If it's just proposed on paper, that's fine, you can guess. But some BTB matches really just drag things out too much making it look like a great, amazing match if you saw it in real life, but it actually is a hot piece of shit. For example...

"The tired and tattered Shawn Michaels looks onto the crowd, with a smile on his face, but with a limp in his step. He walks over to the wearily rope leaning HHH, throwing him off of the ropes. Hunter hits the ropes with conviction. The anxious Heartbreak Kid waits in the center of the ring, ready to strike at the right moment. As HHH returns to the middle of the ring, he encounters his former friend and enemy, Shawn Michaels. Hunter Hearst Helmsley is taken down with a scoop slam. HHH hits the mat hard. Falling to the mat after the simple, yet effective move, Michaels makes the cover. HHH's leg is hooked, and the crowd counts along with the referee. 1...2... Hunter gets his leg up in just the nick of time, saving himself from losing the match to the Showstopper."

but if you cut out all the unnecessary shit, it would be...

"Shawn Michaels smiles to the crowd, but has a limp in his step. He walks over to HHH, whipping him off of the ropes. As HHH comes off of the ropes, HBK waits in the middle of the ring anxiously. When HHH hits the middle of the ring, he's taken down with a simple scoop slam. HHH is on the mat, and HBK makes the cover, hooking the leg. 1...2... HHH got his shoulder up."

You see what I mean?

The 'shit' makes things much more interesting to read. If people just write out what happened with no description, then you get no feel for a match. I'd much rather read a descriptive match then one that just says:

Triple H hits the backbreaker on Michaels. Makes the cover, 1...2.. Michaels kicks out. Triple H picks Michaels back up and hits him with a suplex. 1...2.. Michaels kicks out. Triple H picks Michaels up and hits a neckbreaker. 1...2.. Michaels kicks out.

Yawn.

That match took me forever to write. It wasn't the longest on the show, but it was an absolute bitch for some reason. Once I got into it, it started going fine, but it took me forever to get a good start.

I guess it depends. I know for a fact that I have never read a PPV in one single read, so when you get to a shorter, not dragging match, it's a big relief.

But mostly I prefer matches which go deep into detail. See why JD 06 by Tri is still my favorite PPV ever.

The "shit" isn't actually that bad, I was just using it as an example of how some long, humongous match in BTB wouldn't be that exciting if you saw it in real life with all the add-on stuff. I'm not really a fan of it if it's used too much, like if the whole match is just stuff like that. But most of the time, I'm fine with making a crappy or decent match extended because of stuff like that.

I think the best matches that I've had have been the easiest to write, I don't know what it's like for everyone else. The ones that I favored weren't really difficult to think of, like...
Joe vs Punk (First Match and Second Match)
Scorpio vs Sydal vs Lethal
Scorpio vs Sydal
Steen vs Aries
Strong vs Evans
Homicide vs Rave

For me, Edge vs CM Punk was really easy to write, same goes for MVP vs Jeff Hardy.

The hardest has been for another BTB. Stone Cold vs HHH and Ahmed Johnson vs The Rock were quite boring to write.

My favourite match I've written would probably be AMW vs MCMG from Redemption. By far the easiest match I've ever had to write. Didn't even get a mention for awards though, while my Fatal Four Way did.

My best match? Maybe the Elimination Chamber. I won an award for that.

One of the easiest match that I wrote that I could remember is the Hellfest Match between Stevie Cool and Hollywood Nova. Another match is the No Holds Barred Brother vs. Brother between Matt and Jeff Hardy. Damn! I also enjoyed writing Shelton Benjamin vs. Shawn Michaels from the Cross Roads PPV.

You know I think the easiest match I wrote or one of them was my Royal Rumble. Don't know why but I like doing them, usually when I start a BTB I start around January time and I like to write out an RR match.

But one of my recent matches for a PPV which was a 'bitch' to write was Big Show vs. Abyss. Just generic big man action it had no chemistry just lock ups and big boots.
