I think if you are the strongest military in the world and another country straight up invades sovereign land, yeah you should probably do something about it with impunity

This is literally one of the strongest things I believe in which is why I was used to being called a neocon derogatorily and now I just own that term because if you’re the world’s largest super power why wouldn’t you actually use that power. Someone has to police disputes.

I think people get mad at that because the US has picked and chose their conflicts with sketchy morality and done some horrible things with that power, so they don't trust that process.

however, even as a left leaning anti war person, I feel like if you have to protect the weak from those who will abuse them and sometimes you need to use force as a deterrent.

so there is duality to the issue, philosophically I do think we need to protect humanity from destroying itself but the problem is not becoming said destruction and evil in the process.

I don’t even disagree with you but that apparently has been one of Putin‘s biggest issues with both Ukraine and the United States. Apparently they were made promises according to Putin about NATO and they’ve been broken.

Putin just wanted to be included for mainly cosmetic reasons.

That’s why I was saying we might have to promise him to get the neighboring states out of NATO if that was even doable or preferable to continuing the conflict.
