It's not about trampling on people's rights, it's about protecting people's 1st Amendment rights most of all, the supreme law of the land. People's right to Life is inherently more supreme to someone's rights to have semi-automatic weapons. It's why the 2nd Amendment is Second to the First Amendment.

Banning rifles, when it’s the favorite amongst many groups for self defense isn’t a compromise.

That Uvalde shooting wouldn’t be any different if he walked in there with two handguns and four clips.

I don’t why people think rifles are why a man can kill 14 kids when the police wouldn’t go inside.

If handguns can do the same why do they need the rifles for self defense then?

There is nothing about banning guns for self-defense. Again, shotguns and handguns are just as effective if not more in in-home self-defense compared to a long-barreled rifle.

Republicans would likely bend to a lot of other policies, but they’re not willing to compromise on a right in the bill of rights.

Like I said before, the left has issues they wouldn’t compromise, either. I also don’t see why you think banning is the compromise. There’s a lot of gun control type policy that currently isn’t law that could be met across the aisle and achieve compromise. If you’re only idea of comprise is a gun ban, it’s limited.

Republicans would likely come around on removing that nasty lgbt stuff if you gave them better compromise on the gun issue? Is that not worth it?

And what’s the point in banning them when a person shooting unarmed kids can still do so with any gun.
