Sorry bro, I thought Kenneth Branagh made a better version in the 90s. Shooting shit in black and white and using people I know from sci-fi didn't really do it for me and I dig Shakespeare movies.

Still need to see Branagh's sure its good. Just like that this did something different with the play, also it is one of his which lends itself more naturally to experimenting.

The Prestige

Started this with pretty decent expectations and wasn't disappointed. Compelling film with some great reveals. Probably my favourite Nolan film, ahead of Inception.

Children of Men

Brilliant film. Having never heard of it I had little expectations, and was pleased greatly. Good story and premise. Execution is top notch.

Identity Theft

I had a ton of laughs during this film. I thought they did a really good job. My only beef with it was that it was too predictable. Up until the end, but the ending was good that it made up for the predictability as I wasn't entirely sure if it would be funny or not. I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it and are due for some good laughs.

Despicable Me 2

Was a good entertaining movie but I feel like the first one was better. Still worth a watch though. Had some good laughs but not as much as the first. 6.5/10

R.I.P.D

I went into this movie with some high expectations and it blew them all away. Reynolds and Bridges together make a perfect team and they play off of each other so well. Very well thought out story that answered almost every question. Good use of CGI, and just enough action to comedy ratio. Actually, it was a lot funnier then I thought it would be. Jeff Bridges will have you cracking up the entire time. Probably one of the best characters I've seen. Was a little on the shorter side, but it leaves it open for a 2nd, and a 3rd movie.

Strawberry Fields (2012) 8/10
Very strong debut from Frances Lea set in a strawberry picking field in Kent, where the a nervous young girl starts to work claiming to a be a student from nearby, instead she is escaping from her sister who has become very prosessive sister. When her old life catches up with her a relationship with a guy is threatened and many dark secrets and unsettling events start to unfold. The drama is wonderfully judged, taking unexpected turns, with complex characters, a strange but attractive visual style and powerful performances from the two leads, its a film which will stay with you.

Pacific Rim (2013) 7/10
It did a drag a bit towards the end, but I enjoyed it for the most part, felt the characters and story was quite strong, some good performances also from the likes of Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman. The action sequences and creature effects are very good too.

The Golden Compass (2007) 6/10
Pretty bland and rambling version of Pullman's novel. The effects are excellent and its a fairly strong cast, but overall the film just lacks that sense of magic and danger.

The World's End
Pretty much what I expected from Pegg and Wright. A group of people located in a small, rural town get overrun by the not as normal as you think local's around them. The formula does work for them though, and as a big fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz I thought this was a really entertaining film. I didn't like the ending too much, and Wright's intent on shooting overly quick shots at times is still something I'm not a fan of. But, despite all that there was still a lot to enjoy about it. The jokes are witty and snappy, the story progresses along nicely, and Pegg was excellent throughout (as well as Eddie Marson, who I thought was hilarious). The weakest film of the trilogy, but still a fun watch. 7/10

This Is The End (2013)

Basically, they are attending a housewarming party at James Franco's new house with a bunch of other celebrities (where you'll see some sweet cameos) and they are faced with the apocalypse. They take refuge inside Franco's huge new fortress/castle/mansion and hilarity ensues from there. Best comedy this year so far and hands down, the funniest movie I've seen in a while. I had heard it was good from start to finish before seeing it but was still scared it might disappoint me or not have enough good material. I was completely wrong. Most of the movie had me laughing and a few scenes I was in tears or damn close to tears. Really enjoyed the format of this movie with the actors pretty much playing themselves. They all have an insane amount of chemistry together on the screen. Fucking McBride is AMAZING! GO SEE THIS MOVIE! You'll enjoy it. 9/10

We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks (2013) 8/10
Just like his documentary on Erron here Alex Gibney produces a very in-depth and chilling film, which is very well balanced with a interesting style and fine range of talking heads. It is far more than just a film debating the innocence of Julian Assange but one which tackles a number of modern issues and looks at a very complex character. The fact there is no sit down interview with the main subject didn't bother me as much as others, there are enough clips of him speaking and part of the point is that he is such a mysterious character anyway. One of the best things I have seen all year.

Chloe (2008) 6.5/10
Predictable, but fun erotic thriller with fine performances from Juilanne Moore and Amanda Seyfried. Very stylish too, I have soft spot for these kind of films (and you can insert your own joke there!)

The World's End (2013) 7.5/10
Like with SOTD they manage to merge the horror and comedy elements really well so there are moments which work as both. The cast are great and its nice to see a role reversal between Pegg and Frost with both playing against type. The directions good and the laughs come regularly for most of the film, but it is not as consistent as the other two films. Some scenes I found over long too.

Oblivion

I have a theory that if this movie was made in the 90's it'd be a classic. It's a very good movie with great art direction and a good premise/story.

Only God Forgives
Loved it. People will complain about the lack of dialogue from Gosling, but he portrayed a guy who's been shattered and scarred by his family perfectly. They'll complain about the amount of violence, but I feel the content wasn't as graphic as people are making out. The bits that didn't need to be shown weren't, and those that were shown were done so out of symbolism rather than pure entertainment. People will also say that it's style over substance, but I think it's a great ant-revenge story that has an engaging dark fantasy side to it. On top of that, the music and lighting is amazing, Kristin Scott Tomas puts in an excellent performance, and the pacing is wonderful. I may be a big fan of Refn and Gosling, but I don't think I'm being biased in saying how good this film is. Maybe it'll just take a while for people to see it for its true quality. Or maybe I'm just talking out of my ass. Either/or. 9/10

Scream

Scream has always been a classic for me. It is basically a killer in a mask who's signature tactic of murdering people is giving them a call first to scare them. In the end you find out that it was two people who both had the same costume that was the killer.... Some may say it is a cheesy movie, but it has classic written all over it.
