The ironic thing here is NXT and more so WWE is already the character driven promotion and the finish he doesn’t seem to like was very story driven. Not only did they put the belt on the guy that is more character driven than he’s known for having supposed workhorse matches, but the entire finish was built around the stories going into the match. Ethan went into the match, having to plan to get the win no matter what. Trick proved himself, by essentially knocking out both Evans and Ethan, allowing spears, who went into this match, caring more about costing trick, to stop him from winning the match, which allowed the knocked out Ethan to fall on top of Evans, and luck into his win. A brilliantly planned, and executed finish that’s all about the story.
