I thought it was all around bad.Haha. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. The lyrics are cute and sweet, but the music itself.... meh.
Lets write a song together will killswitches, finger tapping and a shitload of pedalsI'm just going to ignored the religious discussion that the vast majority of this thread since well, I don't care to ever discuss religion period. As for the song, meh. The verses ranged from being brilliant (in both lyrical content and incorporation with the beat) to being questionable lyrics and awkwardly incorporated (as in the flow was disrupted, sounded like he rushed several of his words to make it fit the structure), but mostly hit the middle level of okay. The chorus I just really don't like, it's boring in every way to me basically, like lyrically & vocally. It works fine for the intended meaning of the song and it's not terrible but it lacks the glimpses of brilliance the verses have or the passion in delivery Macklemore has. But mostly, it just isn't a pleasant melody/structure, the my love & keeps me warm part specifically is a little more on the irritating side for me (not that is it irritating/annoying sounding mind you, but it leans more that way than anything else [except maybe bland]). The ending however is a very nice touch, and bumps up the song a bit for me. In conclusion, the message is great and all but it doesn't do much for me as an overall package, though it definitely has it's merits.
Well it's not 2pac, lol. What makes the song special is the uniqueness of the lyrics and the topical content, that's about it. Music-wise, I guess it's not so great. Then again, "great" artists don't often rap about homosexuality. Gay rights doesn't have the same marketability as violence and depravity - nice world we live in, lol.I thought it was all around bad.
Well to be fair, at this day and age, pretty much anything having to do with gay people will get you attention, so gay rights do have the same marketability.Well it's not 2pac, lol. Some, yes, but not much. Homosexuality may grab attention but too much of that attention will be negative for it to a viable marketing strategy. It'll always be easier to sell something without homosexuality than with it. That's why publishers/producers are always telling writers to "straighten out" gay characters.Well to be fair, at this day and age, pretty much anything having to do with gay people will get you attention, so gay rights do have the same marketability.
But then once it's called upon to become straight, you have a group of people arguing about it and it becomes mainstream due to media and gets attention. Of course that's how it is musically, never really cared for other stuff. Some, yes, but not much. Yeah, the's the same situation with One Direction. Either they all are or only some are gay, but the record company they're signed to has a history of keeping artists in the closet for whatever reason. Some, yes, but not much.
