DBD 6 Results - with my commentary

from ROH board with my takes on some of the matches.

roh boards said:
Death Before Dishonor VI

1) Jay & Mark Briscoe defeat Jigsaw & Ruckus with a springboard Doomsday Device in a fun opener.

~SNS Inc. is out. Larry Sweeney asks the Briscoes to join SNS Inc. They blow him off. Hero cuts a promo calling himself the Knockout Kid.

2) Chris Hero defeats Delirious with a roaring elbow. Hero didn't look great for the second night in a row, and the match kind of stunk. People from the back came to help Delirious out post-match.

3) Eddie Edwards defeats Roderick Strong with help from Chris Hero. Edwards hit a KO'd Strong with a moonsault. Pretty good match.

4) NWA World Championship: Brent Albright defeats Adam Pearce via submission to win the NWA World Championship in an amazing old school contest. Pearce busted Albright open with headbutts and bites. SNS Inc. attempted to interfere, but Roderick Strong returned and ran them off with a chair, including kicking it right in Larry Sweeney's face. Pearce tries everything from the Figure 4 to the STFU! Albright locks in the Crowbar but Pearce gets to the ropes. Albright goes up top but Pearce shoves him off the top through a table. Albright comes back, and gets Pearce in the Crowbar one more time. Pearce can't get to the ropes and taps. Crowd went nuts for the finish.

5) Austin Aries defeats Jimmy Jacobs & Necro Butcher in a 3 way dance. Jimmy and Necro came out hugging and shaking hands but it didn't last. Jimmy broke up a Necro pin and got in his face telling Necro to do what Jimmy tells him to do. Necro hit Jimmy with a chair and left the match. Aries hits a 450 for the pin.

~INTERMISSION~

~ROH returns to NYC on 12/27 for Final Battle 2008.

~Delirious came to the ring and called out Daizee Haze. He asks her out on a date. Rhett Titus comes out and calls her used goods, then removes his pants, revealing her on the back of his trunks like Rick Rude used to do to Cheryl Roberts. Delirious runs off Titus, but Haze nicely turns down Delirious. Crowd turned on Haze for saying no.

6) Naomichi Marufuji defeats Go Shiozaki with the Pole Shift. Match started off slowly, but really picked up late.

7) Kevin Steen & El Generico defeat Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin via submission when Sabin goes down to the Sharpshooter. Generico took out Shelley with a top rope brainbuster. Great stuff. Lots of high flying.

8) ROH World Championship: Nigel McGuinness defeats Claudio Castagnoli, Bryan Danielson, and Tyler Black to once again retain the ROH World Championship.

~Dragon eliminated Claudio first. They shook hands, but Claudio snapped. He attacked Dragon with a chair and stomped it in to his head.

~Nigel eliminated Dragon next easily with a lariat.

~Nigel eliminated Tyler Black after Tyler kicked out of EVERYTHING Nigel could throw at him. It took everything in Nigel's arsenal, but after two huge lariats Black finally had nothing left.

First off, the balcony seats were great, but there was a whole fucking row behind me with a couple of drunk, fat motherfucking smurfs that wouldn't shut the fuck up during the whole show. I couldn't lean back because one of the dudes was leaning so far over the guardrail, his fat was hanging right behind my head. I have no problem with chanting, but if the cocksuckers would not SHUT THE FUCK UP, it got me pissed. They started a chant every 30 seconds, and weren't funny at all. It wasn't like the last NYC show, when the guys that were talking were clever, the people behind me chanted the same old shit, and no one else would chant except them. Starting an ECW chant during the NWA Title Match? Blue. Saying Steen was fat, and the fatass was squeezed into a chair? Annoying. Saying Hero fucks goats? Immature. I know it's a wrestling show, but I really couldn't pay the fuck attention to the match with some fatass complaining about every fucking move, and trying to start a stupid chant that only 1 other person goes along with. Thank you, I needed that. I might add more later.

Here's my match stuff.

Briscoes vs VS - perfect opener, short, but it got the crowd into the show. Lots of highflying, and the Briscoes were way over.

Hero vs Delirious - Worst match of the night. It was slow, and it was clear Delirious was going to lose. Hero wasn't impressive at all, which was disappointing, but I guess you can't have it all.

Strong vs Edwards - I really liked this match. They told a good story, and it was pretty competitive. Sweeney's interference was good, and I'm surprised Edwards got the win. I was impressed by Eddie Edwards, he looks like he's going to do pretty well in the future.

Albright vs Pearce - This was a really fun match, with a big match feel. The new red title looks sick. There was some nice action in the beginning with pins, but it got kinda boring until they went to the outside. Both got bloody, and some of the spots were well thought out. Pearce using the Figure 4, STF, and Superfly Splash was nice. The match really built to a nice ending, the crowd was super behind Albright. I had a feeling Brent would win, and it was nice to see.

Jacobs vs Necro vs Aries - I wasn't too big on this match, it felt like it was just "there." Necro was on the outside for a LONG time while Aries and Jacobs were stalling. Highlight of the match was when Aries missed hitting Jimmy with a chair, hitting Necro. Aries pulled an Eddie Guerrero and threw it to Jacobs. Necro went crazy, and left Jacobs out to die. Got the angle over nicely, but it was an OK match IMO.

Rhett Titus - the development of this storyline was nice, and Titus having Daizee on the ass of his tights was pretty classic. New chant here, "She's a Cocktease." This feud should be OK in the end.

Marufujji vs Shiozaki - Stole the show, my favorite match of the night. Better than Danielson vs Marufuji from A New Level. Both of them had their heelish moments, with Marufuji poking the eyes a couple of times, and Shiozaki telling a story by working Fuji over with a Dragon Clutch. It was really back and forth the whole match. Marufuji's kicks are just awesome, probably top 2-3 in wrestling today. Marufuji did a SHIRANUI off the ringpost to the floor. So awesome. The ending was good too, the whole match was amazing.

Steen & Generico vs MCMG - Once again, the fucking fans behind me kinda ruined this match for me to watch, because they wouldn't shut the fuck up. "We see this every Thursday!" "Steen is a fat piece of ----." Wow, look who's talking, fatass. When I was paying attention to the match, it was pretty good. Nice spots in, with both getting double teams, under Scramble rules. Generico did the Brainbustaaaaah!, that was awesome, I've never seen him do that in ROH before. Anyways, it was a good, fast paced match. Things really picked up when Steen got in the match after Generico took a beating for a while.

Four Way - I liked this match too, and there were lots of storylines getting run through. It started off hot, and I kinda went deaf because of the annoying Nigel fans/Danielson haters/tards. Claudio's turn was finally complete, and he looked like a serious threat for once. It took like the whole ROH Wrestling School to take him out of the ring, Claudio is better suited as a heel now after losing so much. Danielson looked good too, and it was obvious that he wasn't going to lose clean. Tyler Black looked really good, and everyone, with the exception of 3 people, was behind him. The Nigel/Tyler final brought down the match for me, it was like they tried too hard, emptying out their movesets. Black really got lots of near falls, but of course, there was so much Nigel no selling so much. He hit AT LEAST 12 lariats after Tyler would get his near fall. The ending was so overdone, it was pretty annoying. But the match overall was a good main event, and the crowd really helped out with the atmosphere in the match.

The Verdict - When this comes out on DVD, this is a must buy. But for the live experience for where I was sitting, it was pretty annoying, not being able to focus with some drunk fatass screaming right in my ear the WHOLE night. And the thing with this show, was that all of the matches got over a storyline, everything was meaningful, which is pretty big for ROH. This show really lived up to its expectations, it got me more interested in ROH in general, it was a damn good show.

^ I'm glad that you enjoyed the show. Sucks that you had a drunk guy behind you the entire night lol. I'm sure the actual show was amazing though, your lucky that you got to go.

Good recap :)

The show sounds and looks really good on paper. I kinda wonder when this "fresh" new talent is coming in.

I still can't believe Eddie Edwards beat Strong. Did i miss something here?

Kinda cool how albright won the belt in NYC in ROH.

Briscoes are starting from scratch now i see. Franklin and Silas. Pearce and Hagadron, Ruckus and Jigsaw. All opening matches.

I would have liked for Jacobs or Necro to win the three way. Why the hell did claudio show up? That just killed the detroit storyline?

Ah well... still looks great

I don't think there was a preshow, the show actually started 15 minutes later because tons of people were still coming in.

Edwards beat Strong after interference from Sweeney. Strong came back in during Pearce vs Albright and chased Hagadorn to the back. If Edwards develops some charisma, he'll be good. He looks like Matt Sydal to me, it was pretty funny.

Aries winning was OK, but the thing with that was that he won after Necro turned on Jacobs and left. Aries has been dominating the feud, and I see what you're saying.

Claudio's turn was expected after the Detroit thing, I was thinking they were going to do it last week.

How would you rate or rank the matches?

I like edwards, i just don't recall him beating very many names, let alone

I'm not a huge aries fan. I think we talked about how aries is kinda cocky and heelish.

Agreed. I believe that's why they put him in SnS. That way, Sweeney can handle all the talking. I still think its a bit to soon to put Eddie over Strong, but it WAS with interference, so Strong was kept relatively... strong >_>

I also agree with Montana about Aries. For a "good guy" he sure does a lot of heelish things.

One question.. Is it true that the fans turned on The Haze after she turned down Delirious?

I think the chant, "She's a Cocktease" explains it all.

I'm hoping SNS brings more up and coming talent to ROH, I'm hoping for the new Kings of Wrestling with Chuck Taylor, Akuma, and Icarus or Kenny f'n Omega. I'd even have a laugh if they brought in Shiima Xion as the personal fashion designer for SNS Inc.

I don't rate matches, so I'll do a ranking

1) Marufuji vs Shiozaki
2) Pearce vs Albright
3) Nigel vs Claudio vs Danielson vs Black
4) MCMG vs Steen & Generico
5) Edwards vs Strong
6) Briscoes vs Ruckus & Jigsaw
7) Aries vs Necro vs Jacobs
8) Hero vs Delirious

(Still has fingers crossed for if or when Honor returns to Long Island)

Ongoing ROH Results from Cleveland (DELIRIOUS JOINS THE AOTF!!)

Preshow

1) Shane Hollister & Mitch Franklin defeat Ninja Blue & Ninja Yellow after a tornado punch from Mitch Franklin. Pretty dull match.

2) Johnny Gargano defeats Sami Callihan with The Stroke (not familiar with what Johnny calls it).

3) Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne & Lou Crank defeat Midwest Air & Ground of Benjamin Sailor & Nate Bash after a Sugarfoot Rana. Crank sold really great.

Main Show

~Crowd looks to be 350-450 range.

1) Kevin Steen defeats Jigsaw with a Swanton to Jig's back. Fun match dominated by Steen.

2) Delirious defeats Rhett Titus. Delirious destroyed Titus in the corner with Panic Attack after Panic Attack. Rhett was bleeding a gusher. Delirious used the blood to paint his mask. Ref stopped the match after FIVE Panic Attacks.

~After the match Jacobs comes out and announces Delirious as the NEW Age of the Fall member. Daizee comes out to try and talk Delirious out of it, but he ignores her and leaves with Jacobs.

3) Bryan Danielson defeats Kenny King with a high angle armbar at 14:45 of the 15:00 time limit. Great match, King looked good. Danielson came out sporting a mad farmer's tan. He got a "Tan of the Year!" chant.

~SNS Inc. are out.

4) Sara Del Rey defeats Sassy Stefic with a standing axe kick.

5) Adam Pearce defeats Ruckus with a poorly executed half nelson suplex following SNS Inc. interference. Presumably sending a message to Albright.

6) Austin Aries defeats Tyler Black in a great scientific wrestling contest with the Last Chancery. Black announced before the match that it was to be held under "Age of the Fall rules". No brawling allowed, just straight scientific wrestling.

7) Jay & Mark Briscoe defeat Jimmy Jacobs & Delirious in a wild around the building brawl with a spring board doomsday. Highlight was Mark delivering a double stomp to Delirious off the top through a table.

~INTERMISSION~

~No return date announced as expected.

8) FIP World Championship: Erick Stevens defeats Claudio Castagnoli to retain the FIP World Championship via disqualification when Claudio wouldn't stop kneeing Stevens in the corner. Ref tried to pull Claudio off, so Claudio went after the referee with a chair! Dragon ran out to fight off Claudio.

9) Chris Hero & Go Shiozaki defeat Roderick Strong & Brent Albright when Hero loaded his elbow pad and knocked Strong out with a roaring elbow. Lots of chops, as you'd expect.

10) Nigel McGuinness defeats El Generico with the London Dungeon to retain the ROH World Championship. Unbelievably fantastic match. Robbie Hart gave it ****1/2 live.

Just got back from the show, and i gotta say, i was def. impressed. I thought this show was pretty easily better than the Detroit PPV. There was a couple very quick dud matches, but all the actuall matches were good. The crowd was hyped most of the night, but slowed down a little in the second half. Ill start at the beginning saying Cleveland....is.... kinda ehhh. Parts of the downtown are cool, others not so much. Went to some bar and grill, that was alright, then local heroes bar, that place was pretty cool. Seen Shane Hagadorn walked by with some of his boys. The Hotel was had was crazy nice, but the room was WAY too small. Its was basically just 2 beds in there.

So im waiting in line to buy tickets and one of Hagadorns friends were selling front row ticks for 50$. So i did the cheap thing and told i only had 20. They told me no, but then i was you guys from detroit...small chat...got front row for 20$ First time ever i was in the front too.

Anyways, the preshow had 3 matches, which is pretty rare. THe match was Sami and johnny was pretty good. I'd like to see the guys in ROH a little more. Both worked a good match, however i had a hard time telling how was heel and face.

Steen vs Jigsaw. Fun opening match. Steen did the normal jokes and comedy. The crowd was pretty wild for steen. Good solid opener. ***

Delirous vs Titus. Titus tried to push up on me, and i pushed him away. Delirous looked f'n crazy. Scary looking. Wasn't much of a match, but Titus was bleeding all over the place. More of a storyline building segment. **1/2
allison wonderland gets a ****** for that top she was wearing. yes, thats 6. Shes really hot.... up close too.

Danielson vs King. Again, place was going nuts for Dragon. These guys put on a real good match. It was a real good mix of entertainment, and wrestling. The guys were chanting back and forth with the crowd. Some jokes with the farmers tan. "best tan in the world" or something like that. 15 minute time limit. They were like one more minute to go. Good climax. About as good as you could hope in the allotted time and spot in the card. ***1/2

Ruckus vs Adam Pearce.. I liked this match, although it wasn't anything too special. Sara del ray's HUGE thighs had me distracted. Her leg is bigger than my waist. Its pretty sick up close. **3/4-***

Black vs Aries - in a Scientific match. The crowd didn't really like this idea too much. They wanted more blood. Solid wrestling match, and things did pick up, however it ended kinda quickly. I thought they could have added a little more to it. I wanted to see Black win too. ***1/4-***1/2

Briscoes vs AOTF (jacobs/Delirous) This was sweet. Awesome brawl as you would expect. I missed half of it, but could hear it. This is what the crowd wanted to see. They took out half my section they were fighting through it. One of those you gotta have to see on dvd to rate, BUT ill go ***3/4

***Intermission***

Awesome first half.

Then the second half

Stevens vs Claudio - you kinda figured the ending would be a little screwy. Claudio got some good heel heat. OH yeah, he took out some girl in the first row too. At the start of the match, they were brawling on the outside and claudio through stevens into the rail, and the corner of the rail hit some poor chick in the eye! And she no sold it, and a tickle of blood came down. I was surprised it wasn't worse, but im sure she got stitched up. Ehh *** match.

SnS vs Rodderick/Albright. Solid match. This match and been done about 4 times with rotating partners. Felt this match was given a little extra time. Real good match, but not as good as the AOTF/Briscoes match. This was more wrestling based. Still i'll give it the same rating ***3/4

And the EPIC main event. Nigel vs Generico. Think of the match Nigel vs Black, with Black being generico, and generico hitting Nigel with just about all of his offense. This match was nuts. My first thought was match of the year. Not sure if it was the hype of being there live in the first row, or what. But i thought they really put on a hell of a match. ****1/2 -3/4 Probably my match of the year, however consider generico is one of my favs, and i was there live.

SO yeah. Cool show. It flowed really well. Tag wars and the det. ppv started off slow. I thought this was the best live show i've been to since supercard of honor 2. Overhyping?? Maybe, but i really didnt find anything i didnt like about the show. Maybe that delirous was jacobs partner, but that makes sense.

Results from tonight's show.

RESULTS

Preshow

I believe Ninja missed most of the preshow. He sent a couple of notes from it he could catch.

1) Egotistico Fantastico & Two Others defeat The Ninjas & Their Partner

2) Alex "Sugarfoot" Payne defeats "A Jerry Lawler Wannabe"

Main Show

~ROH returns to Chicago Ridge November 22nd.

1) Kevin Steen defeats Kenny King with a Sharpshooter.

~Pelle Primeau comes out for the tag scramble alone. Pelle says Delirious has been missing all day. Daizee is out, and says everything Rhett has been saying is a lie, and that she should have said yes to Delrious. Jimmy Jacobs comes out and distracts Daizee. MsChif DDTs Daizee from behind. Jacobs says Delirious listens to him now. Delirious then comes out and attacks Pelle. Delirious is still wearing green for those wondering. "We want Briscoes" chant is up. Delirious totally squashes Pelle. Trik Davis and Mitch Franklin are out to replace the Delirious/Pelle duo.

2) Ruckus & Jigsaw defeat Jay & Mark Briscoe, Mitch Franklin & Trik Davis and Tweek & Dash Phoenix to win the Scramble when Jigsaw pins one of the Phoenix Twins following a Jig'N'Tonic/Top Rope Double Stomp. Only around 6-7minutes, but really fun while it lasted. The Phoenix Twins looked good.

"P.S. Trik Davis is garbage"

3) El Generico defeats Tyler Black with a brainbuster.

4) FIP World Championship: Erick Stevens defeats Chris Hero to retain the FIP World Championship at the 21 minute mark with a top rope powerslam. Hero controlled the entire match, but got caught out of no where.

~The Chicago return on November 22nd was announced as a PPV taping.

5) Bryan Danielson & Austin Aries defeat ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli. Good match but short. Dragon forced Nigel to submit to Cattle Mutilation. Title shot coming in Dragon's future.

After the match Claudio attacked Dragon again. Claudio hit a Ricola Bomb and stomped a chair in to Danielson's head.

~INTERMISSION~

*Note from Ninja when asked about bad attendance tonight. "Only one set of bleachers, seven rows of chairs. Rumblings around the building of gas prices and people being sick of Chicago becoming "Age of the Fall storyline central".

6) Larry Sweeney defeats Roderick Strong in the finals of the SNS Inc. Gauntlet. Bobby Dempsey enters the ring and falls down. Roderick pins him for the first elimination. Shane Hagadorn is sent in next. He eats a sick running boot and gets eliminated. Adam Pearce is sent in next. Short match, Strong wins via roll up. Chris Hero is in now pulling double duty. Hero gets DQ'd! After his elimination Hero knocks Strong out with three roaring elbows. Sweeney gets in the ring and pins the unconscious Strong.

7) NWA World Championship: Brent Albright defeats Go Shiozaki to retain the NWA Title via ref stoppage with a barrage of knees to the head. Kind of weak.

8) Jimmy Jacobs defeats The Necro Butcher in a No Disqualification match which saw interference from both Austin Aries and Tyler Black. Necro and Jimmy brawled through the crowd and exchanged weapons shots back in the ring. Black ran in to prevent Necro from superplexing Jimmy on a chair. Aries ran in to even the odds. Necro gets laid out on a table and Aries is powerbombed on him putting both through it. This lead to the pin for Jacobs.

After the match, Steenerico and The Briscoes joined in for a typical ROH flippy dive brawl.

I'm kind of hoping for another batch of results, because as of now, this looks like it was a bit of an underwhelming match. I'm also surprised that Ruckus and Jigsaw won the Scramble.
