Death Before Dishonor VI
1) Jay & Mark Briscoe defeat Jigsaw & Ruckus with a springboard Doomsday Device in a fun opener.
~SNS Inc. is out. Larry Sweeney asks the Briscoes to join SNS Inc. They blow him off. Hero cuts a promo calling himself the Knockout Kid.
2) Chris Hero defeats Delirious with a roaring elbow. Hero didn't look great for the second night in a row, and the match kind of stunk. People from the back came to help Delirious out post-match.
3) Eddie Edwards defeats Roderick Strong with help from Chris Hero. Edwards hit a KO'd Strong with a moonsault. Pretty good match.
4) NWA World Championship: Brent Albright defeats Adam Pearce via submission to win the NWA World Championship in an amazing old school contest. Pearce busted Albright open with headbutts and bites. SNS Inc. attempted to interfere, but Roderick Strong returned and ran them off with a chair, including kicking it right in Larry Sweeney's face. Pearce tries everything from the Figure 4 to the STFU! Albright locks in the Crowbar but Pearce gets to the ropes. Albright goes up top but Pearce shoves him off the top through a table. Albright comes back, and gets Pearce in the Crowbar one more time. Pearce can't get to the ropes and taps. Crowd went nuts for the finish.
5) Austin Aries defeats Jimmy Jacobs & Necro Butcher in a 3 way dance. Jimmy and Necro came out hugging and shaking hands but it didn't last. Jimmy broke up a Necro pin and got in his face telling Necro to do what Jimmy tells him to do. Necro hit Jimmy with a chair and left the match. Aries hits a 450 for the pin.
~INTERMISSION~
~ROH returns to NYC on 12/27 for Final Battle 2008.
~Delirious came to the ring and called out Daizee Haze. He asks her out on a date. Rhett Titus comes out and calls her used goods, then removes his pants, revealing her on the back of his trunks like Rick Rude used to do to Cheryl Roberts. Delirious runs off Titus, but Haze nicely turns down Delirious. Crowd turned on Haze for saying no.
6) Naomichi Marufuji defeats Go Shiozaki with the Pole Shift. Match started off slowly, but really picked up late.
7) Kevin Steen & El Generico defeat Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin via submission when Sabin goes down to the Sharpshooter. Generico took out Shelley with a top rope brainbuster. Great stuff. Lots of high flying.
8) ROH World Championship: Nigel McGuinness defeats Claudio Castagnoli, Bryan Danielson, and Tyler Black to once again retain the ROH World Championship.
~Dragon eliminated Claudio first. They shook hands, but Claudio snapped. He attacked Dragon with a chair and stomped it in to his head.
~Nigel eliminated Dragon next easily with a lariat.
~Nigel eliminated Tyler Black after Tyler kicked out of EVERYTHING Nigel could throw at him. It took everything in Nigel's arsenal, but after two huge lariats Black finally had nothing left.
First off, the balcony seats were great, but there was a whole fucking row behind me with a couple of drunk, fat motherfucking smurfs that wouldn't shut the fuck up during the whole show. I couldn't lean back because one of the dudes was leaning so far over the guardrail, his fat was hanging right behind my head. I have no problem with chanting, but if the cocksuckers would not SHUT THE FUCK UP, it got me pissed. They started a chant every 30 seconds, and weren't funny at all. It wasn't like the last NYC show, when the guys that were talking were clever, the people behind me chanted the same old shit, and no one else would chant except them. Starting an ECW chant during the NWA Title Match? Blue. Saying Steen was fat, and the fatass was squeezed into a chair? Annoying. Saying Hero fucks goats? Immature. I know it's a wrestling show, but I really couldn't pay the fuck attention to the match with some fatass complaining about every fucking move, and trying to start a stupid chant that only 1 other person goes along with. Thank you, I needed that. I might add more later.
Here's my match stuff.
Briscoes vs VS - perfect opener, short, but it got the crowd into the show. Lots of highflying, and the Briscoes were way over.
Hero vs Delirious - Worst match of the night. It was slow, and it was clear Delirious was going to lose. Hero wasn't impressive at all, which was disappointing, but I guess you can't have it all.
Strong vs Edwards - I really liked this match. They told a good story, and it was pretty competitive. Sweeney's interference was good, and I'm surprised Edwards got the win. I was impressed by Eddie Edwards, he looks like he's going to do pretty well in the future.
Albright vs Pearce - This was a really fun match, with a big match feel. The new red title looks sick. There was some nice action in the beginning with pins, but it got kinda boring until they went to the outside. Both got bloody, and some of the spots were well thought out. Pearce using the Figure 4, STF, and Superfly Splash was nice. The match really built to a nice ending, the crowd was super behind Albright. I had a feeling Brent would win, and it was nice to see.
Jacobs vs Necro vs Aries - I wasn't too big on this match, it felt like it was just "there." Necro was on the outside for a LONG time while Aries and Jacobs were stalling. Highlight of the match was when Aries missed hitting Jimmy with a chair, hitting Necro. Aries pulled an Eddie Guerrero and threw it to Jacobs. Necro went crazy, and left Jacobs out to die. Got the angle over nicely, but it was an OK match IMO.
Rhett Titus - the development of this storyline was nice, and Titus having Daizee on the ass of his tights was pretty classic. New chant here, "She's a Cocktease." This feud should be OK in the end.
Marufujji vs Shiozaki - Stole the show, my favorite match of the night. Better than Danielson vs Marufuji from A New Level. Both of them had their heelish moments, with Marufuji poking the eyes a couple of times, and Shiozaki telling a story by working Fuji over with a Dragon Clutch. It was really back and forth the whole match. Marufuji's kicks are just awesome, probably top 2-3 in wrestling today. Marufuji did a SHIRANUI off the ringpost to the floor. So awesome. The ending was good too, the whole match was amazing.
Steen & Generico vs MCMG - Once again, the fucking fans behind me kinda ruined this match for me to watch, because they wouldn't shut the fuck up. "We see this every Thursday!" "Steen is a fat piece of ----." Wow, look who's talking, fatass. When I was paying attention to the match, it was pretty good. Nice spots in, with both getting double teams, under Scramble rules. Generico did the Brainbustaaaaah!, that was awesome, I've never seen him do that in ROH before. Anyways, it was a good, fast paced match. Things really picked up when Steen got in the match after Generico took a beating for a while.
Four Way - I liked this match too, and there were lots of storylines getting run through. It started off hot, and I kinda went deaf because of the annoying Nigel fans/Danielson haters/tards. Claudio's turn was finally complete, and he looked like a serious threat for once. It took like the whole ROH Wrestling School to take him out of the ring, Claudio is better suited as a heel now after losing so much. Danielson looked good too, and it was obvious that he wasn't going to lose clean. Tyler Black looked really good, and everyone, with the exception of 3 people, was behind him. The Nigel/Tyler final brought down the match for me, it was like they tried too hard, emptying out their movesets. Black really got lots of near falls, but of course, there was so much Nigel no selling so much. He hit AT LEAST 12 lariats after Tyler would get his near fall. The ending was so overdone, it was pretty annoying. But the match overall was a good main event, and the crowd really helped out with the atmosphere in the match.
The Verdict - When this comes out on DVD, this is a must buy. But for the live experience for where I was sitting, it was pretty annoying, not being able to focus with some drunk fatass screaming right in my ear the WHOLE night. And the thing with this show, was that all of the matches got over a storyline, everything was meaningful, which is pretty big for ROH. This show really lived up to its expectations, it got me more interested in ROH in general, it was a damn good show.
