On this Monday’s Raw SuperShow, the WWE Universe may get its second opportunity in as many weeks to watch WWE Heavyweight Champion CM Punk vs. World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, according to Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Raw Interim General Manager John Laurinaitis.
In a series of tweets Saturday afternoon, Laurinaitis - who’s presently engulfed in a game of one-upmanship with SmackDown GM Theodore Long - hinted that a Champion vs. Champion rematch could happen as soon as Monday night.
Punk and Bryan battled to three inconclusive decisions on SuperSmackDown Live last Tuesday. After Laurinaitis and Long took turns overturning two controversial three-counts that resulted in Punk and Bryan victories, respectively, the match eventually ended in a double-pinfall.
In the first of several tweets Saturday, Laurinaitis placed the blame squarely on Long, writing, “Leave it to @GMSmackDown to bungle a perfectly good main event with @CMPunk and @WWEDaniel Bryan. #Big Johnnyâ€
The Interim Raw GM went on to accuse Long of an “underwhelming performance†and said he was mulling over the possibility of making a Punk-Bryan rematch when Raw airs live from Portland, Ore. (9/8 CT, on USA).
“Unlike @GMSmackDown, Mr. Excitement will give WWE Universe what they want,†Laurinaitis tweeted.
Long couldn’t help but to respond in similar fashion.
“If you REALLY wanted to give the WWE Universe what it wanted, you’d retire,†the SmackDown GM retorted in a tweet. “I’ll see you in Portland, playa. #Holla.â€
I'm up for seeing another Bryan/Punk match.
