Well in the end I have to be happy with a point for Villa, we certainly didn't deserve anything more. On paper it was the right result, and does move us out the bottom three.

Next up we have Man City at home, but after that we visit Wigan, and that is a must win match.

Well Villa have some tough weeks ahead Keith. 1st of January you travel to old Trafford. I will be at that game and will be hoping for the win of course but I don't want houliuer to go as he needs time imo so best of luck to you and lets see if you can put in a solid losing performance :p.

You must mean 1st of Feb! Anyway I would like to go to that game, but not sure I can afford it right now with a hoilday coming up. I tend to go to more away games nowdays since I live in Morecambe, anyway enjoy the match!

Well I am pleased that we seem to be on the verge of signing Darren Bent. We have needed that kind of centre forward for years, and given our current position he could make a big difference. Still I find it a bit strange than we have sudderly done a u-turn on speading large sums of money on transfers.

I wouldn't spend 24 million on Bent never. I mean yes he is a very talented striker but he is getting older and as strikers get older you know they've only got a few years left. I mean Liverpool are meant to be signing Saurez for only 17 million.

Bent's only 26 that is very much in his prime, and I think his scoring record speaks for itself. Just to clear something up it is not 24mill at the moment that is depending on appearences, the price to start of with is 18mill. The only thing is if the gamble doesn't pay off it is a lot of money for a club like us who can't afford to thrown that sort of money away.

Well I will stick my neck out a bit on this, and go for a 2-1 Villa win against Man City later today. Just have one of those feelings, their starting to ship goals, and with a bit of luck we are tighting up, so providing we can keep them out I think there is a reasonable chance of a upset. Plus we are due a win over what is one of our boggie sides. Bent to score on his debut.:)

I hope you do beat city. Would be a very good result for us and It would give us a chance to widen the gap even more. i do expect Bent to score but £24 million meh.

Well that deal has started to pay itself off right away with Bent scoring on debut to give Villa a 1-0 win over Manchester City. It is a high price to pay but Bent has a proven scoring record in the Premier League and Villa had to do something to try to rescue their season.

Some other big wins yesterday with Liverpool finally winning on the road 3-0 against the Wolves.

Robin Van Persie scored a hat-trick in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Wigan.

Berbatov scored his third hat-trick of the season in Man Uniteds 5-0 win over Birmingham.

I am very pleased with these results. Now i know we have a big rivalry with Liverpool but if they ever get Relegated that rivalry will stop. Our win against Birmingham is a huge confidence booster and hopefully it will give us the confidence and momentum to continue the top form and play like we can be champions. And of course the Villa win, now sends city down and we get back a 2 point advantag, just hope it does not encourage as much as to beat us at OT.

Liverpool won't be relegated this season. They have been poor but they will still battle their way out and will most likely end the year in the top ten. They have too many good players to continually fail.

Man United have gone pretty close to sealing the title now especially with City losing against Aston Villa. Berbatov keeps surprising me with his scoring ability. I don't rate him that highly as a striker but he keeps delivering each week up front.

If you think the Liverpool-United rivalry will end if Liverpool get relegated, you obviously don't know much about the rivalry. ;)

We won't be relegated though. Yesterday's performance is an example that we can still beat teams on the road and that we actually have players who can play football. We played our best football of the season yesterday.

Yesterdays results:

Man United 3-2 Blackpool
Aston Villa 2-1 Wigan

Berbatov scored twice in United's win to take him to 19 goals for the season, five clear of Tevez in second. I can't see him being caught this season. Good performance by Blackpool against the top team, I hope that Blackpool can survive this season rather than go right back down again.

Villa get a second win in a row since Bent comes across. Moves them to 13th although depending on other results they could drop back down to 16th.

Still surprised at how close it all is this season. Normally there is at least one clear team that will be relegated but it is still too close to call.

17 Birmingham 22 -10 23
18 Wigan 24 -19 22
19 Wolves 23 -17 21
20 West Ham 24 -19 21

We could potentially leapfrog into 7th tonight with a win; not bad after the season we've had.

West Ham are looking extremely likely to go down because of their managerial crisis. They all but sacked Avram Grant and then had to do a U-turn since Martin O'Neill rejected them because he didn't like the conjecture the club was putting out.

Liverpool scrape a 1-0 win. I think we deserved it though.

The perfectly legal goal that was disallowed was a poor decision, but the luck balanced itself out in the second half for our goal.

Don't know how Mark Hughes can bemoan our "luck" when we had a completely valid goal ruled out.

It is amazing how quickly things can change. Liverpool up to seventh after that win shows how close this season is. I don't know how much higher Liverpool can get this season. With Darren Bent now at Aston Villa I see Sunderland dropping some points and I don't think they will remain sixth. If Liverpool can continue this form then sixth is very achievable.
