Nice game for the Cavs tonight.. support stepped up! Mike Miller with 3 clutch threes back to back.. I loved that mofo back when he had the mullet.

Mavs and spurs my fav to win the west, then gs and grizz
Mavs don't play any D and just traded all of their depth for a PG who is a terrible fit next to their current All Star caliber SG (both need the ball in hand to be effective offensively)

Favorites out of the West IMO: 1.) SA 2.) GS 3.) OKC 4.) Memphis

Mavs play good D. Addition of Rondo only helps. Rondo gels with anyone. He lead the league in assists with the Celtics..... The Celtics.... Goin to be a dime machine, just u wait and see

They are 20th in defensive efficiency. On what planet is that good? Considering historically it takes a top ~10 defense to make the finals

Mike Miller was going ham last night vs the Nets.. dropped like three 3pters in a matter of moments.. although I do have to say I miss his classy long hair look from back in the day.

You are taking an a very decent all star in Monta Ellis over a championship winning very good point guard in Rajon Rondo.
You sound like a bit of a homer here. I enjoyed Ellis when he was in the bay area as well but he isn't Rajon Rondo.
Rondo is a better rebounder, defender, passer and he is a winner. Nowitzki took a pay cut to bring in guys like Rondo, not Monta Ellis.

There were times when Rondo was better than the big 3 and far more efficient. At his best, be puts the under-sized Ellis to shame.

Ellis is tough, clutch and a great shooter. He's also small and a bad defender. He's likeable and has the 'gangsta' like toughness that's needed in the NBA.

Ellis isn't Rondo, sorry. Rondo is younger and pass first. No team in their right mind would take Ellis over Rondo if they want to win a title.

I don't know what the fuck you thought I was saying, but I was simply saying both Rondo and Monta are ball-dominant guards, and thus not a good fit together as a backcourt. Monta doesn't work well off the ball, nor does Rondo. They both prefer to have the rock in hand to create for themselves or others. Obviously this creates the dilemma that only one of them can have the ball at a time

I've got it now, you were simply making an observation and an accurate one at that.
This isn't the first time Ellis has dealt with this. He's played with Baron Davis, Steph Curry and Brandon Jennings, as you well know.
I don't see this as an impediment to them winning, because Ellis won in Golden State with Davis and Curry (to a lesser extent).

Nowitzki is the best player Ellis has ever played with and Rondo (hopefully) can improve the transition game Ellis was used to during his early years in Golden State.
Rondo is a great defender and should free up Ellis on the defensive side of the ball for more steals for more transition baskets.
Rondo's rebounding should set up nice transition points in a Rick Carlisle offense once featuring Jason Kidd.
I'd look for the Mavs to give the Spurs more fits, but Ellis' halfcourt game will suffer with Rondo's arrival for sure.

Monta had 38 in Rondo's debut... but they were playing the Spurs minus all of their players lol

It was against the D-League Spurs, but Ellis also had 4 steals.
With Rondo being a great defender that frees Ellis to work the open floor to tap away forced passes into steals.
That much seemed obvious before the game, but I was surprised the two worked so effectively, so quickly.
With it being so early in the season, I don't sense this as a fluke as Rondo was finding everybody for open looks last night.
Ellis did close the game, ball in hand as you foresaw however.

Scoring 38 against the D-League squad would probably translate to 20-25 in the same home game in Dallas.

Seems like an unprecedented move. I can't recall a guy with that much money left on a contract being waived.

From the three or four Detroit games I've seen this season I would have to say it's because he doesn't fit well into Van Gundy's system at all but JS seemed like one of those players that people would definitely still trade for.. they must've tried to shop him but was unable to find someone willing to take him.

I know they had offers over the summer for him but turned them down.
