Sheldon Creed finishing second is the most accurate simulation I've ever seen.

Exclusive Post-Race Interview: Brandon Blaze

Winner of the 2020 NASCAR Truck Series Season Opener

Interviewer: Brandon, first off, congratulations on your victory! You dominated the field today, winning a stage and bringing home the checkered flag. How does it feel to kick off the season with a win?

Brandon Blaze: Man, it feels amazing! Coming into this race, I knew we had a fast truck, but to come out here, put it on ‘em, and get the win—it’s unreal. Growing up in Georgia, all I ever wanted was to race at this level, and now to be standing here in Victory Lane? It’s a dream come true.

Interviewer: You showed incredible speed throughout the race, leading the most laps. What was the key to your success today?

Brandon Blaze: It was all about execution. My crew chief made the right calls, the pit crew was flawless, and that #83 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet was just hooked up. We had to battle through some tough restarts, especially with Moffitt and Crafton breathing down my neck, but I knew if I hit my marks and managed the tires, we’d be in a good spot at the end.

Interviewer: You’re from Georgia, and the next race is at Atlanta Motor Speedway. That’s got to feel special. How confident are you heading into your home race?

Brandon Blaze: Oh man, Atlanta’s home turf for me. I grew up watching races there, so to go back as the points leader is crazy. That place can eat up tires quick, so it’s gonna be about patience and managing the long runs. We’ve got momentum, and I want to go back-to-back in front of my home crowd. That would be something special.

Interviewer: This is your first full-time Truck Series season. Do you see yourself as a championship contender?

Brandon Blaze: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thinking about it. We’re here to win, not just to ride around. But it’s a long season, and I know we’ve got a lot of tough competition out here. I just want to keep putting this #83 Chevy up front, getting stage points, and stacking wins. If we do that, we’ll be right in the mix for the title by the time we get to Phoenix.

Interviewer: Before we let you go, any final words for the fans back home in Georgia?

Brandon Blaze: Y’all are the best! I wouldn’t be here without the support of my family, my team, and the fans that have followed me since day one. This win’s for all of you! We’re just getting started—see y’all in Atlanta!

The Jack Daniels Chevrolet was fast, but not fast enough I guess. Blaze checked out and I mean, I knew we weren’t gonna catch him. Top 10 is nice, but at the end of the day, just means I was the fifth loser.

Post-Race Report – Atlanta Motor Speedway
Race Winner: Brett Moffitt (#23, GMS Racing)
Margin of Victory: 1.2 seconds over Brandon Blaze
Cautions: 5 (Total of 22 Laps)
Lead Changes: 9 among 6 drivers
Fastest Lap: Sheldon Creed (Lap 94, 30.802 sec)
Biggest Mover: Tommy Bedlam (+12 positions)
Biggest Drop: Raphael Lessard (-10 positions)

Brett Moffitt (#23, GMS Racing, Race Winner):
"Man, this truck was hooked up all night. Big shoutout to the guys at GMS for giving me a rocket. The last 20 laps were all about hitting my marks and making sure Blaze didn’t get too close. This is a big win for us!"

Brandon Blaze (#83, Niece Motorsports, Runner-Up):
"We had the speed to win, no doubt. I felt like I had something for Brett, but he was just a little too good in the clean air. Still, a strong run for us, and we’ll take this momentum into Las Vegas."

Sheldon Creed (#2, GMS Racing, 3rd Place):
"We had the fastest truck in Stage 1, but tire wear really hurt us. We’ll learn from this and move forward."

Juice Millar (#53, Halmar Friesen Racing – Finished 6th)
"We were quick in the long runs, but that late caution kind of threw us off. Once the tires wore in, we were flying, but it was a little too late. We’re showing speed, though, so I know our first podium is coming soon."

Tommy Bedlam (#77, GMS Racing – Finished 7th)
"I felt like we had a top-five truck, but we just got shuffled back on that last restart. Still, we fought hard, and moving up 12 spots from where we started is something to be proud of. I’ll take this momentum to Vegas and see if we can get even better."

Logan Slayer (#40, DGR-Crosley – Finished 8th)
"Atlanta was a tough one. This place is brutal on tires, and I think we just missed the setup a bit. We learned a lot, though, and still brought home a solid top ten. On to Vegas!"

Arthur D’Tea (#8, Kyle Busch Motorsports – Finished 9th)
"Not a bad run, but man, I wanted more. I was fighting that truck all night, just way too loose on entry. The team worked their tails off to keep me in it, and we salvaged a top ten. I’ll take it, but we need to be better."

Bobby Rey (#00, Niece Motorsports – Finished 10th)
"We were making moves all night, but that last run just didn’t go our way. I got boxed in on that final restart, and after that, it was just survival mode. Not the finish we wanted, but at least we got some good notes for the next one."

Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-40)

- On lap 25, a caution flag flew when Tanner Gray got loose and spun, bringing out a debris caution. The field bunched up for a restart, and the battle for position heated up. Creed held the lead off the restart but faced intense pressure from Moffitt and Brandon Blaze, who were both fighting for every position.
- In the final laps of Stage 1, Sheldon Creed managed to hold his ground, crossing the line first after 40 laps. Brett Moffitt finished in second, with Brandon Blaze securing third place.

Stage 2 Recap (Laps 41-80)
- The restart for Stage 2 saw Brett Moffitt starting in second, with Sheldon Creed in the lead. Moffitt wasted no time, passing Creed by lap 42 and taking over the top spot.

- By lap 60, Johnny Sauter made a bold move to push into the top 5, passing Juice Millar and Tommy Bedlam in a sequence of aggressive maneuvers.
- A caution on lap 75 came after Tanner Gray made contact with the wall, triggering a multi-car pileup that collected Zane Smith and Derek Kraus. This caution brought everyone down pit road, with a strategic tire change affecting the final lap battle.
- After the restart, Brett Moffitt once again proved his dominance, managing to hold off Brandon Blaze and Sheldon Creed. He claimed the Stage 2 win, with Brandon Blaze securing second and Sheldon Creed in third.

- The final stage was a true test of stamina and strategy. The first 30 laps were relatively calm, with Brett Moffitt continuing to lead, while Brandon Blaze and Sheldon Creed held second and third, respectively.
- However, the action intensified on lap 120 when Austin Hill made a bold move for fourth, passing both Matt Crafton and Johnny Sauter.
- A dramatic moment came on lap 135 when Austin Hill and Derek Kraus made contact, causing a caution. The ensuing restart brought everyone together for a shootout to the finish.
- As the laps wound down, Brett Moffitt was the one to withstand all challenges. Despite fierce battles from Brandon Blaze and Sheldon Creed, he managed to hold them off and claimed victory, securing his second win of the season at Las Vegas.
