Some of the main missions should've been side ops and vice versa. Replaying a mission with perfect stealth, or on extreme is a good challenge, but that's what it should be. An optional challenge. I would've done it either way but it shouldn't be required to progress the story. Mission 29 was hard as it is, but to be required to play it again so soon, and without Quiet is pretty unnecessary.

Well now I'm fucking depressed. I beat the main stories(not denying that some man tears were shed either) and just realized how centered the game was around loss, but not just story wise. We lost a series, we'll never get another true MGS. And that really fucking sucks.

I just didn't want to tag along with you anyways! And the game has it's moment of repetitiveness, but I usually get lost in doing multiple random stuff.

Yeah, doing side ops & frequenting my MB usually takes up the majority of my play time. And even though there are quite a bit of repetitive missions; it's rare for me to get bored by it. I have more issues with the story, but I'll save that talk for later.

Once the stories are over there really isn't any incentive to keep playing. Yeah you can go back and S rank every mission and finish doing your MB, but it's all in vain. You know it won't trigger any new cut scenes, or reward you with anything major besides more skins & emblems. I really wish there was a New Game Plus option. Sure you can replay any mission at your own will, but it isn't the same dammit.

So I picked up Phantom Pain on release, got a sweet as fuck steelbook version. Only picked it up after Ground Zeroes was free but I watched the walkthroughs for the previous games in the Big Boss timeline leading up to Metal Gear. Its been my GOTY so far, I am on mission 19 and about 100 hours in at this point, really have spent 95% of my time upgrading Mother Base an equipment and also finding D-Dog because Doggie eye patch. Anyway I find the story to be pretty lackluster so far which was one of the main complaints as I am aware but I think most of it builds up to the ending that was spoiled for me and the Post Game stuff. Either way the gameplay is very polished except from a bug that has been a major pain for the Xbox One version where the game will stutter and you will lose control of Boss. Hoping I come across Quiet soon since all I have seen of her so far was the mini sniper fight. Anyway I can see myself put atleast 250 hours into the Single Player and then fingers crossed MGS Online will be good.

You're supposed to get Quiet via the sniper battle, did you kill her or did you just not beat her? That is the only way. And D-Dog popped up in episode three for me I'd like to say, but he's pops up a lot supposedly. It does take a couple of hours for him to be grown though.

The gameplay is great, yeah. Best in the series for sure, but the story was disappointing. I ended up caring about a side character more than my favorite character in gaming history, haha.

Overall, Witcher would probably be my GOTY. Just because of the replay value it offers, and the story is good. After beating MGSV there really isn't any incentive to go back to it which sucks. Although, I do want the Raiden outfit. It has the same effects as the Gray Fox outfit though, so I'm not aching to S rank every mission for it.

Damn yeah I didn't get her as a buddy, damn. Does she pop up again later in the story if you dont take her as a buddy? I dont mind spoilers btw. Yeah I got D-Dog but I had to backtrack and just ran through the missions to get him fully grown. He is very helpful in the field honestly especially when trying to find the Transportation Specialist via backtracking for one of the missions in Africa.

It turns into an episode if you engage her, so if you beat her and didn't take her you can't get her if you finished it. I'd restart the game just to get her tbh, I regard her story as the main takeaway from the game's story aspects. She's not good at first, but once you put time into her she becomes your best buddy. Especially when she gets the Guilty Butterfly, gotdamn. The only time she isn't good is if you're extracting the old MB soldiers, or hunting animals in the side ops. D-Dog is best for those. Her scouting an outpost & covering from afar is dope.

So if I didn't extract her in that mission the first time it completely skips her story? If so I will need to catch it on the second run through. I would rather not lose 100 hours of stuff.

Looked it up a bit, someone said that Kojima claimed nothing can be completely skipped. They say to replay Mission 11 so gonna try that quickly.

I haven't played any new MGS. Is this worth trying?

Cool.

Are Zeros and Phantom Pain tied together?
Every Metal Gear game is connected, here is a great site with short rundowns of the games before Phantom Pain in order of their in game timeline: Falconbox
