Christopher Reeve was the man man!

I can't wait for this movie, going to be so good! With Zack Snyder directing I have total faith in it.

Cannot wait for this movie. The first teaser trailer that came out has already shit all over that polished turd that Bryan Singer put out in 2006 called Superman Returns.

Zack Snyder knows what he's doing. So does Nolan. I'm interested to see how Michael Shannon will work as Zod. He's supposedly a very talented actor, and Nolan knows how to cast.

I saw it at midnight last night/this morning. Best Superman movie ever made. The jackass who hated on the origins storyline of it is so unfounded. This is a new arc of Superman that HAS to capture what happened to lead into who Superman is.

The acting was spectacular. Cavill was perfect in the role. Costner was superb. Crowe was spectacular (by the way, they subtly reference Gladiator if you're a movie buff and look for the connections). Shannon was the perfect Zod, and instead of a villain built around deception and lies, this is a villain who speaks in all honesty and from his heart, and that makes the entire ordeal even more awesome. Excellent graphics, and there has never been a superhero who flies as crisp as Man of Steel does... not even Iron Man. They did the story justice. They didn't go out of their way to add extra shit that was never there in the Superman stories.

It wasn't the greatest movie ever, and it definitely didn't capture the magic that existed walking out of the theater during the Batman movies. The special effects were out of this world (ha, get it?) and the acting was just as good. The problem I had in this, is that I wanted the film to be dark... I wanted to focus completely on character study, but it was more like the Avengers. It was a summer blockbuster, with the sole purpose of great effects and superhero action. I wanted more in the origins, and I left the theater feeling like it could have been better. Anothing thing that I disapproved of was the voice of Zod. I felt like it should have been deeper and a little more booming, because he didn't come off as a scary or evil guy. He didn't command respect as other villains in superhero movies have done to me. But overall, I'm glad I saw the movie.

I would give this movie 5/10. Way too over the top with the spaceships and destruction. I liked Jor-El a lot, but Zod was cheesy and just not cool. The plot didn't make a lot of sense and was a bit messy. Way too heavy on special effects when it just didn't need to be. Too much of a cool thing can spoil it and it did. However, I really did enjoy Superman flight scenes. The overdone special effects and repetitive fight scenes were not so good. Not sure how many times you can tackle each other through buildings but apparently it is quite a lot.

Some parts were just plain stupid. How many people died in the destruction of the city in the major fight scenes then Supes gets all concerned about saving random people. Just a whole lot of things didn't add up with this movie and made it largely unenjoyable for me. I had to laugh when they were talking about using Kal-El's ship as a weapon and the military leader was like "it will make things into a black hole!" like he is a genius scientist all of a sudden.

Holy crap has Diane Lane aged. I hope some of that was makeup related. I am sure they aged her but it took me a second to recognize her.

Having Costner, Lane and Crowe KIND OF reminded me of the 90's Batman movies where they had too many big stars playing parts. Cavill looked good as Superman but I wasn't too impressed with his acting. I can't put a finger on what was wrong, but he just didn't sell it with acting. The look, yes.

The Iron Man movies are much more believable. This one, not so much.

Seeing this in just over 2 hours, figured with it being a movie about the first ever superhero, then it should be my first 3D movie in theatres.

Going with my Superman fanboy friend, so even if I don't catch something that is wrong, I will get a first hand account from someone who has been collecting the comics since the 80's.

*update*

I actually really enjoyed the movie, and the 3D effects were not too overwhelming to take away from the experience, like I had feared. Michael Shannon is definitely my favorite casting in it, and brought General Zod to life. My friends only complaints were the fact that Perry was black, Pete was white, and that Olson had a sex change, but it didn't distract him enough to dislike the film.

Planet Krypton looked amazing, and the Kryptonian technology looked great. I did notice Ferris Aircraft(from Green Lantern), Lexcorp, The Iceberg Casino(The Penguins headquarters), and the hooded figure fishing on the island had me wondering if it was a nod to Green Arrow.

If this is the set-up to Justice league, they did a great job. Also setting up the sequel by giving Lex ad space.

Sounds like DC is gearing up towards the inevitable Justice League movie. I believe the New Gods story may be slightly too much for the average movie goer, as it does comprise of 2 realities coming together to fight Darkseid.

The idea of Darkseid being the force to bring the League together should be a no brainer. It needs to be a force more powerful than General Zod, and it cant be someone Batman could outthink, so if it wasn't Darkseid, I would have gone with Brainiac, or the Injustice League.

Man of Steel

Went into this with high hopes and expectations, and having never read or seen Superman I can ultimately say that I'm actively interested in the franchise from this movie. First thoughts as I was watching the movie was that it isn't friendly to the first time Superman viewer. Me and my friends knew nothing about Krypton, or Jor-El or Zod or anything. It was confusing at first, and I still have things that I'm looking back on and I'm not fully sure how they were justified/explained to the audience aside from Crowe talking about everything (which was confusing in it's own right because he died at the start...). The initial narrative moves very fast, and despite me knowing little about Superman I find it the best portion of the film. The flashback sequences are really well done but it was hard to differentiate between a flashback and present time. I wish they emphasized his childhood more, with even more flashbacks and moments showing how his current mindset towards his powers are. There isn't really a time where we doubted Superman, and I'm not sure if that's how it's meant to be, but at some stage I felt like we should be thinking how Superman is going to fail, or whether or not he will betray Earth.

He ends up walking into a Spaceship at one point, and I was like 'what the fuck? How did he find that?'. I'm not sure whether it was explained but it was really random. It seemed a bit rushed. I wish they focussed more of the movie on storytelling instead of the mindless action. That being said, the movie was gorgeous. Music and sounds are stunning, visuals are breathtaking and everything looks really shmick. It's one of those movies where you sit there and think, fuck how much did this cost? Some of the effects are visually unreal. And the accompanied music really gives the film it's emotion (which is pretty devoid in the characters).

Despite all the obvious flaws, I think it is a great action movie. Effects are 10/10. I just wish they focussed more on Clarke himself, and who he is as a person. Maybe they will take that approach in the sequel.

8/10
