WCW Saturday Night 4/20/1996: The Gambler & Maxx Muscle v.s Fire & Ice.

Simple squash. Fire & Ice looked rather impressive and dominating. They just easily get overshadowed by the rest of the tag team division.

WCW Saturday Night 4/20/1996: Public Enemy v.s Steiner Brothers.

This looked good on paper and started decently well. After about a couple minutes of the Steiners in full control with suplexes, Rick goes for a Superplex... I don't really know what happened but he lost his handle at one point and Johnny Grunge lands horribly on his ass. It looked like could have broken his lower back it was just ugly. So yeah that kind of killed it and then they murdered the match with the Nasty Boys getting involved with chairs. They don't hit anyone they just scare PE to the back so the Steiners get a count out victory.

WCW Saturday Night 4/20/1996: WCW Title Match- Jim Duggan v.s Ric Flair(c).

Just like the last WCW title match on here it has a promising start and then we get a DQ finish. That's it. Of course I shouldn't say start with Duggan because he already used most of his movset here and even started his usual repeat through his stuff. Still would have liked more and I would have trusted Flair to deliver at least.

WCW Saturday Night 5/4/1996: The Barbarian v.s Chris Benoit.

Now this is what I'm talkin' about. This was just a hard hitting match from bell to bell. Benoit looked awesome the entire time whether dishing it on or Barbarian or taking it. Barbarian was great, too. I really didn't know which way they were going to go with this match. The finish doesn't hurt either really. The German suplexs and then Benoit's Nothern Lights suplex that he looked like he almost didn't get were just so much fun to watch. He ended up missing his diving headbutt but Barbarian seriously looked rattled before coming back and hitting a huge Powerbomb that I thought might the end match. A little bit after this Barbarian goes for a running big boot in the corner only to get caught up in the ropes as Benoit darted out of the way. Benoit being the aggressive bastard he is takes full advantage with repeated kicks to the other leg of Barbarian which is totally exposed. Benoit is relentless and keeps going until the bell is sounded because Barbarian just couldn't get free. The Referee called the match and Benoit came off as a true bad ass. So much better than the stuff I was just watching that I might have went overboard but I don't care it's the Crippler dammit.

WCW Saturday Night 5/4/1996: State Patrol v.s The Steiner Brothers.

Steiner Screwdriver!!!!!! Man, I love when Scott pulls that out. This was a good showcase of their suplexes before you know Scott went into his bag of tricks. I quite enjoy it when the Steiners can manhandle bigger teams than them.

WCW Saturday Night 5/4/1996: Billy Kidman v.s Alex Wright.

This had a great pace going. I just hated how they saved Wright from losing here it was just blatant. After some great fast paced action going back and forth nobody staying in control too long we get Kidman hitting his Shooting Star Press. I was surprised I thought he was going to job hard but he got his big time move in. However this where the match goes south. I know he went for a move prior in tornado Bulldog kind of thing that hurt his ribs. Well maybe it wasn't smart to follow it up with the Shooting Star Press but you know it's Kidman. Instead after about 3 seconds of holding his ribs he doesn't bother even going for a cover. He picks him up so Wright can come back with some sloppy offense so he can pick up the win. He didn't deserve to win he got hit with the SSP which just needed a cover attempt. If Wright got his foot on the rope I would have been fine with that. I just didn't like this at all after how it started. I could also complain that Alex's German Suplex to win wasn't nearly as good as any of Benoit's earlier... I won't though that would be too much nitpicking.

WCW Saturday Night 5/4/1996: WCW Title Match- Marcus Bagwell v.s The Giant(c).

Two Chokeslams and the match is DONE. It was supposed to be Luger v.s Giant but he was at a Celebrity Golf Tournament. So Bagwell who relayed the message to The Giant got suckered into a match. It still was a dominating way to show Giant off as the new Champion after he won the belt from Flair on the Nitro before. Luger came out right after the match to save Bagwell from a continued beating so yeah he showed up 3 minutes too late. :side:

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/1/1996: The Giant v.s Sting.

I guess they were supposed to challenge Harlem Heat but that doesn't happen so they fight each other. It wasn't much as Luger got involved quickly. It was still decent while it lasted.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/1/1996: The Steiner Brothers v.s The Nasty Boys v.s The Road Warriors.

This is an odd match but neither team tries to do too much which I liked because if they went overboard I'd never know what was happening. Mostly tagging in and out from all teams as they hit their usual maneuvers. Not much of a story develops but I don't know why you think one would. This only ends when Public Enemy attack The Nasties on the outside of the ring leaving the Steiners to pin Brian Knobbs. Tony Schiavone is screaming Knobbs wasn't legal... To even expect one referee to keep track of who was legal between these teams in this kind of environment is just not possible. Still a good fight for the most part with some fun sloppy action from the Nasty Boys. The finish looked awful though.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/1/1996: Kevin Sullivan & Arn Anderson v.s Hulk Hogan & The Booty Man.

So Sullivan and Anderson do some great heel work on Booty Man until he tags out. It had some hot action at first where they looked even. However when Hogan just wants to win, you have to let him win. He doesn't have to work for victories. I hate this shit. Yeah it only went a good amount of time because Anderson and Sullivan got a chance to work over Beefcake. Yeah, I can't hate too much because it was decently paced until you know Hogan comes in the ring.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/1/1996: WCW Title Match- Lex Luger v.s Ric Flair(c).

This was a pretty good match between two men that know each other well. The match just went along and it just seemed to flow so nicely. Only thing I really didn't care for was Lex going into the steel guardrail only to use this as the start of his comeback. So yeah that means he no sold it. At least it didn't come off as badly as most of Sting's no selling. You got yourself a little hidden gem here and of course a dodgy finish with Flair getting a pinfall never hurts too much because you already knew he was going to cheat to win. I guess it does just suddenly end the match but it was great while it lasted and good main event for Nitro.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/15/1996: Kevin Sullivan & Arn Anderson v.s Hulk Hogan.

I guess there was a story of being able to attack the those other's manager in this match. I didn't mind this handicap match actually worked well to a point but of course Hogan wins. You should never embarrass Arn Anderson like this. I guess NWO does worse later on but still god damn. The action was fun at least, Sullivan and Anderson made Hogan look great. That isn't hard for them, though.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/15/1996: Street Fight- Public Enemy v.s The Nasty Boys.

My goodness... This was just non-stop from the beginning and all these guys are heavy. Of course all they are doing is constantly hitting each other with plunder. Lots of stiff garbage can, chair shots and even a broken table is used. I swear Knobbs had a broken end of a table on one of the members of PE for about half a minute trying to carve him up or choke him out with it. I couldn't really tell but it kept him grounded in an ugly position. I don't know if it's just me but I think this is better than most ECW hardcore matches. Maybe I should give credit to PE but this was Nasty Boys at their finest. You can't have a sloppier match be this enjoyable. Usually when you think of sloppy matches you have idiotic high-flyers. Here is like bar room fighters just tearing into each other not caring about their own well being leading to sometimes just ugly looking moves. This usually isn't my style of match but I just mark for the Nasties when they get like this. It may be dangerous but it sure as hell isn't a cake walk taking PE's moves either.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/14/1996: Bobby Eaton v.s Randy Savage.

Knowing the time period I didn't expect much because Eaton got whored out a lot. Yeah, he's great at putting people over but you just can't take him seriously when it gets about to this point. He should be going hold for hold with Savage. This wasn't that yet Eaton did get a bit of good offense even if it was mimicking Ric Flair to piss off Savage which is if it's a good strategy if it works. It doesn't here after the Figure Four, Savage comes back with a scoop slam and a top rope elbow drop. Still decent while it lasted and of course Eaton was gold imitating Flair.

WCW Monday Night Nitro 4/15/1996: Ric Flair & The Giant v.s Sting & Lex Luger.

Fun, fun tag match. Flair and Giant not getting along was great and Flair almost took off to the back to just not deal with it. It all started when Flair was tossed out twice by both Sting and Luger where he was caught by The Giant. The second time he took off because the first time Giant just threw him back into the ring. After a commercial the match calms itself down and Flair/Giant actually get back together. Nice follow up work from the Nitro two week's prior from Luger/Flair as well. I thought their interactions were the best besides well Flair/Giant. That was just unique. Still a solid match but the finish was all over the place so nobody would lose credibility.
