WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Steve Kiern v.s Johnny B. Badd.

Kiern does everything here until Badd gets a crucifix pin out of nowhere. Really, Kiern had pretty much every offense move before this working this match like a solid veteran until Badd just decides to win it seems. It was pretty lame. Kiern was great here, though. He certainly should have won from a talent standpoint.

WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Davey Rich v.s Steven Regal.

Regal was just pounding on Rich. He wasn't even wrestling like he was in his prior matches in WCW. It was just so much fun watching Regal aggressively beating the shit out of this jobber. Of course he gets way to into it and Rich is able to actually get a short bit of offense that even had the fans behind him. It just worked very damn well. Regal gets pissed off at this quick burst and when he gets a chance to get back in control he locks in a Butterfly Suplex and slaps on the Regal Stretch for the victory. He wasn't going to play around anymore. Awesome.

WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Kenny Kendell v.s Diamond Dallas Page.

Page just hits a few things then goes for the Diamond Cutter which he is still unsure at this point how to use correctly. It could have been worse, though.

WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Tony Vincent v.s Ricky Steamboat.

Not much of a match. Steamboat did some weak looking chops to the top of Vincent's head in the corner. Vincent took advantage for a little bit after this and then Steamboat does something that actually looks effective to finish the match. At least it made sense.

WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Larry Santo v.s Jean Paul Levesque.

Rookie H in all his glory. This match was all over the place with Jean Paul just doing stuff he thought was cool. Gettin' shit in. He was also using the Indian Deathlock as a finish at this point. Didn't really care for this but Trips has always been pretty solid in the ring.

WCW Saturday Night: Fred Avery v.s Brian Pillman.

This didn't flow very well with the contrasting styles. Fred Avery acts like a cartoon character when selling. That was the best part of the match. Yeah, that's it.

WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Todd Morton & Chris Michaels v.s Harlem Heat.

This was pretty garbage. Booker T and Stevie Ray were still being refereed to Kane and Kole at this point as well. These teams clearly didn't work with each other very well. Terrible exchanges from the start. The finish was pretty vicious, though. However in this case that means it had an ugly landing because of lack of experience.

WCW Saturday Night 7/13/1994: Brady Boone v.s Rip Rogers.

Rogers has some over the top, flamboyant gimmick and Boone is a high flyer. I thought this was going to be a squash for Rogers but it was actually quite competitive with different styles while it lasted. It was a little sloppy at points, though.

WCW Saturday Night 7/23/1994: Tag Team Title Match- Kevin Sullivan & Cactus Jack v.s Pretty Wonderful(c).

I was actually expecting something good between these two teams. This was far from it. It was slow, dull and sloppy. Their PPV match I remember being quite a bit better. The two teams styles didn't mesh at all. Some awful exchanges and lots of rest holds to take up time. It just wasn't very fun. The finish worked in the end but overall I just didn't enjoy it. I'm also a huge fan of Orndorff and Foley. Oh well.

WCW Starrcade 1994: US Title Match- Vader v.s Jim Duggan(c).

Ugh, Duggan should never have matches this long. He virtually has no moveset that would be fine if could work on strikes or something. He just hits closelines. This was rough and tough but it certainly wasn't clean. Terrible exchanges were the theme. The finish was pretty horrific as well. At least this was very hard hitting is about the only positive.

WCW Starrcarde 1994: Alex Wright v.s Jean Paul Levesque.

This match seems to get a lot of recognition nowadays for being Triple H's biggest match up until this point. I still found this a very sloppy affair between two wrestlers still trying to hone their craft. These two young guys did some impressive things but a lot of things didn't look very crisp or clean. The finish came out of nowhere but I actually liked it that way as nobody was really controlling the match. I don't think this was that great. I just didn't see it here.

ROH The Final Showdown - ROH World Title: Austin Aries vs. James Gibson

I gave their first match at Stalemate, **** but this one topped it. This match had more intensity, though, as both guys dropped the posturing of the first match in favor of a rabid chase for the title. I’m sure they could do even better. Yet again the finish wasn't great, and the crowd’s disappointment at it was definitely audible. My take on it is that it furthers the idea of Aries as the desperate champion just surviving another match and clinging to the belt. Anyway, beyond the finish, it was an epic contest. Aries using most of his offense in this match to work on Gibson's arm, to set up for that finisher he uses that works on the arm was great. Gibson’s selling was fantastic and allot of Wrestlers should take notes it's up their with Bryan's selling. He barely using his arm from the moment Aries started working on it, and when he did (such as the Trailer Hitch and the Tigerbomb) Aries was able to counter and escape due to the injury. ****1/4

ROH Nowhere To Run - ROH World Title: Austin Aries vs. Bryan Danielson

Another fantastic match between these two and you know what the crazy thing is, it's that they've had better matches then this. This was physical, intense and intelligent match from start to finish. Everything was smooth and crisp working the body part etc, but it just wouldn't work and degenerated into a total fight for the win. ****

WCW Starrcade 1994: TV Title Match- Arn Anderson v.s Johnny B. Badd(c).

Anderson refused to work at Badd's pace from the start. He spent a lot of time stalling before the match got going. It had some good exchanges. Also considering it was supposed Badd v.s Honky Tonk Man we got a better match then we would have. Anderson was fantastic here making Badd look like a million bucks. I didn't really care for the finish but at least it was decent enough that Arn didn't look bad after doing most of the work in this match. It's nowhere near a classic but I didn't mind this match up.
