That's also true, the War of 1812 and Spanish-American War were major to keeping the issue of Slavery on the backburner. Having an outside enemy always does well to keeping internal issues from blowing over.

The slavery issue really started becoming a point of no return when a lot of states were being added. Mason/Dixon line was a hilarious fail of a compromise in a long line of them in American history. The slave states didn't necessarily care that new states allowed slaves, that just knew they were becoming more and more of a minority and they were going to lose if they didn't have numbers

Yeah, there were even two attempts at Constitutional Amendments that would have addressed the issue of Slavery.
