With production scheduled to begin next month, Legendary Pictures is assembling the cast together for the monster feature Godzilla. The male lead went to Aaron Johnson, and if talks go well, he'll be joined by Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Johnson will reportedly play a soldier in the movie, with Olsen (who is also reportedly being eyed for Ninja Turtles) playing his girlfriend and Cranston, his stepfather. None of the deals will be finalized until the script is completed, according to Variety's sources.
Frank Darabount is currently rewriting Max Borenstein's draft of the script and, presumably, will deliver it sometime this month if Godzilla is going to make its March start date.
A wrinkle in all this is the lawsuit against Legendary brought on by producers Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison, who were kicked off the project by production company. In the lawsuit, the three are asking the court to put a halt to the movie's production until their case is resolved.
Gareth Edwards is attached to direct, and the movie is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. on May 16, 2014. According to rumors, Godzilla isn't the only monster we'll see in the movie.
Frank Darabount helping with the script this could be the best ever Godzilla. Sorry Fuji even the other film that you just reviewed.
