DC Extended Universe finds it's Black Adam

With the DC extended universe entering it's second chapter with the completion of it's upcoming Justice League film. We already know the upcoming line up for both Chapter Two as well as chapter three of the DC Extended Universe. As the DC continues to look into it's future fans of the comic universe are eager to see their favorite characters brought to life. This isn't just the case for the heroes however as there is a lot of intrigue regarding who will be playing DC's most popular villains. With the DC Extended Universe already introducing us to the likes of Penguin (Nick Frost), Lex Luthor (Denzel Washington), Ocean Master (Karl Urban), Sinestro (Sean Harris), Ares (Daniel Craig) and Reverse Flash (Matthew McConaughey) while also revealing the castings for the likes of Darkseid (Idris Elba) and Joker (Joseph Gilgun). We know that a few upcoming reveals will introduce characters such as Deathstroke, Hugo Strange and Vandal Savage.

Today's reveal however will be for a film recently announced for chapter three. This of course will be the Shazam movie which will tell the origin of Billy Batson. For this character it is believed that this movie won't so much be a full reveal of the character but more a tease for his upcoming appearances as we can confirm that Black Adam will be coming to the DC extended universe. The character of course was famously brought to live action recently with the much maligned Dwayne Johnson movie. Despite slight consideration, it was said that the decision was always to recast the role and start fresh with the character. Despite early rumors of Terry Crews potentially being offered the role, it's said that the DC producers wanted to stay true to the character's origin with an actor of arabic descent.

One early contender for the role was said to be FBI's Zeeko Zaki who was said to be highly in consideration for the role for some time. However it was said following a screen test one actor stood firmly above the crowd. This is why it can be confirmed today that actor Ahmed Ezz has been confirmed to be the DC's Black Adam. A versatile actor who has appeared in a majority of genres. Ahmed Ezz is said to be someone more than capable of fleshing out the complexities to Black Adam's character who is said to genuinely believe himself to be a hero and is someone capable of walking the fences of good and evil. It is believed as well for this movie the castings for Billy Batson as well as Shazam have been confirmed and shall be announced soon by the DC Extended Universe.

DEATHSROKE CONFIRMED FOR DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE

Following the recent announcement of Black Adam's casting. Rumors were rampant that a few announcements were coming to the DC Extended Universe. As we've already seen with the DC extended universe and it's villains. This rebirth has little issue in sending out the big guns right away as we've already been introduced to The Penguin (Nick Frost), Lex Luthor (Denzel Washington), General Zod (Richard Armitage), Reverse Flash (Matthew McConaughey), Sinestro (Sean Harris), Prince Orm (Karl Urban) and the recent announcements of Darkseid (Idris Elba), The Joker (Joseph Gilgun) and Black Adam (Ahmed Ezz). The next announcement has been a highly anticipated addition to the universe as we know that Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke will be appearing in Chapter Three. It is believed that Deathstroke will make his first appearance as part of the sequel to Quiver which has already been entitled Sounds of Violence.

This of course will not be the first ever live adaption of the Deathstroke character who has made appearances dating back to the original Lois and Clark series. Since that time Slade has been memorably portrayed by Manu Bennett in Arrow, Esai Morales in Titans and Joe Manganiello in the Justice League film. It is said that the writers and producers did very much keep an open mind with this character and it's casting. As we can confirm that the DC Extended Universe's staff very much met with the three aforementioned actors about a potential reprisal but again they selected to honor the idea of a rebirth by holding an open casting for actors to portray the villainous assassin.

Some early names mentioned for the role included Timothy Olyphant, Stephen Lang and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. All of whom were said to have been impressive in screen tests but for one reason or another all would be swiftly ruled out from consideration of the role. Two other names we know to have auditioned for the role are Pedro Pascal and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Again it's said that both individuals were impressive in their meetings and auditions but the belief is that both have instead been offered different roles which they are reportedly in the process of accepting. However there was one more name believed to have auditioned for the role and is said to be looked at as perfect for the role.

In what is a big, blockbuster announcement for the DC Extended Universe. It can be confirmed today that Brad Pitt has signed up to portray the role of Slade Wilson. The big selling point of Brad Pitt in this role was his performances in both Fury as well as Inglorious Basterds. In which he played strict military men with questionable ethics and morals. This is more than an accurate description for the role of Slade Wilson who is described as a man of honor and integrity with a flawed morality. Said to be someone who believes the only force is deadly force. Slade Wilson is someone who plays judge, jury and executioner for all those who cross his path.

VANDAL SAVAGE CASTING UNVEILED TODAY! SET TO APPEAR IN HAWKMAN/HAWKWOMAN MOVIE!

In some exciting news revealed today another big villain has been unveiled who will be making his debut as part of Chapter two of the DC Extended Universe's Rebirth. Following off the back of the recent announcements of Joseph Gilgun as the Joker, Brad Pitt starring as Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke and Ahmed Ezz as Black Adam. It was teased that there would still be two more villain announcements to come. We know now that the two villain reveals pending were that of Vandal Savage and also Hugo Strange. It can be confirmed however that Vandal Savage will be appearing as part of the Hawkman and Hawkwoman film which will be apart of the second chapter. With rumors indicating that this will not be just a one off villain appearance but rather a series of appearances for the aforementioned character.

Unlike many castings as of late which appeared to be quite open casting calls for the characters. With the casting for Vandal Savage focus went to actors above the age of 45 in order to fit the appearance and backstory of the villainous Vandal Savage. One early name rumored to be apart of the casting process was Viggo Mortensen but after a few meetings it's said that the Lord of the Rings star schedule very much put him out of the ruling. Two name who were also confirmed to be apart of the top consideration were that of Hugo Weaving and Jason Scott Lee. In fact it was said that Jason Scott Lee was very much a front runner for the process before a decision was made to offer him another villainous role. One last name we know who spoke with DC execs was that of Casper Crump who memorably brought Vandal to life in DC's Legends of Tomorrow. A decision however was soon made to stick to the plot of recasting and refreshing roles.

It can be revealed today that the actor chosen to bring Vandal Savage to life will be Benicio Del Toro. The award winning, critically acclaimed actor isn't a stranger to the superhero movie franchise having previously starred as the Collector as part of the MCU. It's said with Del Toro, the decision was made based off of his performance in the Sicario franchise. Citing that in that particular franchise Del Toro played a character who very much blended into the shadows and walked the line of good and evil. Describing Vandal Savage as a ruthless individual and at times a merciless dictator. Vandal is said to be someone who is not without a heart which is shown in fleeting moments and it is believed that Benicio will bring that gravitas to what will be a complex villain.

SHAZAM CASTING CONFIRMED

Following the recent announcement of Chapter Three's DC Extended Universe's film arc. It was only a matter of time until characters and castings were to be unveiled. With the news of Black Adam's casting already out there. Many knew that it wouldn't be long for the casting announcement for the hero known as Captain Marvel or Shazam to others to be confirmed. Today in a press release we now know and can reveal just who will be playing the role of Billy Batson and who will also be playing his Captain Marvel alter ego. It must be said with the previous incarnation of the DC Universe. It's use of Shazam and the Shazam films were one it's highlights so the pressure was truly on the writers and producers of this rebirth project to make this incarnation of Shazam live up to if not exceed it's predecessor.

Memorably the first live action Shazam film and it's sequel would see actor Asher Angel starring in the role of Billy Batson. It is said that writers and producers truly loved Asher in the role of Billy Batson and some wondered if he would be kept in the role. However it was said after a lot of consideration that they decided to cast afresh for the role while being open to using Asher in a different role. The same was also said for Zachary Levi who memorably portrayed the role of Captain Marvel/Shazam. Shown to be a highly capable actor who bought the fish out of water personality to the hero. Zachary Levi again is said to be someone who producers and writers considered in keeping with the role before deciding once again to keep afresh with the rebirth theme of this project.

Regarding the casting of Billy Batson, we know a few names in particular were confirmed to audition for the role with Jacob Tremblay and Jaeden Martell being two standouts. It is said however that both young actors along with Stranger things start Noah Schnapp have all instead been offered different roles within the DC extended universe. In the case of Jaeden, we know that he is said to still be starring in the Shazam film albeit in a different role. With the casting of Shazam we know two early names who were spoken about with the role were Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bill Hader who both later settled into different roles with the DC Extended Universe. Along with this we know Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron were said to have undertaken meetings with producers and writers who felt that they would be better suited with different roles. Unfortunately one other name mentioned was Chris Evans who sadly couldn't accept the role due to scheduling conflicts.

Today we can confirm however that Finn Wolfhard and Kellan Lutz have been confirmed to take the titular roles of Billy Batson and Captain Marvel/Shazam. It is said that Finn Wolfhard's performances in IT and Stranger Things made him a leading contender for the role of Billy Batson as he shown himself capable of not just bringing the laughs but also a vulnerability under that hard shell. Meanwhile Kellan Lutz is said to have also greatly impressed with his comedic chops and also his ability to get serious when the situation called for it. The two are said to have gelled well in a screen test for the role and writers hope that they will truly be able to bring this new character of Billy Batson and Captain Marvel to life.

MISTRESS OF MAGIC: ZATANNA JOINS THE DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE

With the first chapter of the DC's rebirth coming to an end and the second chapter just beginning. Focus has already turned to the future of the project and it's future film and television expansion. With details of the third chapter of the DC Extended Universe already unveiled and the reveal of Billy Batson and Shazam's castings as well as that of Deathstroke. It is little surprise that the next reveal is related to the fourth film apart of this saga. That movie of course being Mistress of Magic which is set to be an origin story for the character of Zatanna Zatara. With the DC's Extended Universe already taking us into space, under the sea and into many foreign lands. It was only a matter of time for the occult, sorcery and mysticism to be apart of the franchise which is said to be a big part of the third chapter.

A popular comic character who has made numerous appearances in animated film and shows. Zatanna has long been rumored for years to be making live action appearances in films but sadly this has never come to fruition until now. This leaves the only live appearance of the character to being a one off appearance in Smallville as played by actress Serinda Swan. It's said because of this writers and producers had little issue in doing a full recast of the character as they looked for an actress capable of bringing the intelligent, confident and self assured magician to life. It was reported that both Milyana Vantub and Alexandria Daddario both previously met with producers about this role before they were instead offered different parts of the DC franchise.

It was said that the casting call and selection for Zatanna was perhaps as competitive as a role we've had yet with many actresses throwing their names in the hat for the role. It was believed in a similar facet Margaret Qualley also put her name forward for the role before accepting a part in the upcoming Cyborg film. We also know that Scream star Melissa Barerra did take some meetings regarding the role before an opportunity opened up elsewhere for her. A few names confirmed for a fact to have actively auditioned for the role included Tala Ashe, Megan Fox and Nina Dobrev. It was sadly mentioned that Aubrey Plaza impressed early on but scheduling contracts would rule the actress out of auditioning for the role.

ana-de-armas.gif

In the end however a selection was made with an actress who is currently coming off a spate of breakout performances. This of course being Ana De Armas who has recently become a breakout star in Hollywood. Coming off of performances in hit films such as Knives Out, Blade Runner 2049, No Time to Die and Blonde. Ana De Armas was long said to be at the top of the list for the DC Rebirth's top executives. Believed to be a strong actress who is more than capable of leading the franchise and someone capable of bringing Zatanna to life. Ana is a welcome addition to this DC rebirth.

CONSTANTINE CASTING CONFIRMED!

When the DC Extended Universe's rebirth project announced that it's third chapter would introduce more of the world of the supernatural, mysticism and the occult. There was perhaps no name that drew as much intrigue or attention as that of John Constantine. Set to headline his own film entitled Hellblazer. This feature film will very much be a different kind of film as opposed to the standard DC Extended Universe films. Believed to be a multi part horror anthology which will focus on several of John Constantine's encounters with the supernatural. These encounters will very much shape the individual that John Constantine has become ahead of the ensuing Justice League Dark cross over film which will end the third chapter.

This of course will not be the first time that John Constantine and his world have been brought into live action. The first of which was of course Keanu Reeves in the titular film which played in 2005. Along with this Matt Ryan memorably appeared as the character in both his own series as well as part of the Arrowverse while actress Jenna Coleman appeared as an adapted version in the Sandman. It has been reported there was early discussions of arranging a meeting with Keanu Reeves about a potential return in the role. This was before Keanu signed on to play a role in Quiver. More serious discussion however was taken regarding Matt Ryan and giving him a chance to star in his own film. However it was then decided to see if the DC rebirth could try and find someone new to bring the character to life.

To say that the character of Constantine was a complex one would be an understatement. Described as someone filled with endless cynicism and ruthless cunning. Constantine's darker traits are balanced by his sharp wit and humanitarian desire to do some good with his life. Knowing that they would need a actor capable of walking such a line. The casting for Constantine was a lot more intimate with only a few names known to have spoken about the role or auditioned. Those names include Cillian Murphy, Eddie Redmayne, Jack Lowden and Nicholas Hoult. It is also said that one name believed to have taken multiple meetings and screen tests for the part was Tom Felton who was said to have understood the vision of the character.

In the end however it can be confirmed today that joining the DC Extended Universe in the role as John Constantine will be British actor Dan Stevens. This will not be Stevens' first entry into the Superhero genre as he previously starred as David Haller in the FX series Legion. It was believed that Stevens performance in Legion as David Haller as well as his performance in the Guest are what steered executives to making the decision to offer him the role. With the belief being that Stevens has more than proven his ability at bringing a likeability and vulnerability to even the most darkest of characters.

DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE
dc-rebirth-mega-final-icon-v12-justice-league-v7-3-justice-league-folder-icon-png-clipart.jpg

JUSTICE LEAGUE: ORIGINS
Perhaps the most anticipated movie of the DC extended universe's first chapter. While also promising to be by far it's most ambitious film yet. As the first six movies in this chapter of the DC Extended Universe built to the first ever crossover film. This film of course would be entitled origin and boasted a truly star studded ensemble cast. Boasting the longest length of a DC Extended Universe film so far. This film clearly had designs to be an epic as it boasted a run time of 210 minutes. In the run up this film was promised to be a true origin story of the Justice League coming together and would very much delve into the relationships formed across this bunch. In order to see how the team would come together however first we'd see the team in the run up to this crossover event. Starting out with Bruce Wayne (Wes Bentley), who from this timeline was not far removed from the events of Year One. Under the guise of Batman, Bruce would meet with Jim Gordon (Bryan Cranston). This would be quite the interesting update which covered several events following year one and also presented us with several teases for the future. Beginning with an update on Harvey Dent (Jon Hamm) who Gordon regretfully revealed was still in critical condition and had yet to wake following his acid attack at the hands of Salvatore Maroni (Al Pacino).

During this conversation between the two we'd see some slight changes that had been made with the GCPD since the events of Year One. As Despite a worried Gordon alluding to a power vacuum amongst the Gotham Crime families. It would appear that the GCPD itself had made some positive steps. Mentioning how Arnold Flass (Christopher Meloni) had sold many of his corrupt colleagues out in order to save his own skin. Gordon would reference the fact that the walls were closing in on Howard Branden (Josh Helman) who for now was still in his role as part of SWAT. At the culmination of this conversation, Gordon would also introduce something which mayor Marion Grange (Carla Gugino) had authorized as he flipped a switch introducing the Bat Signal for the first time. Returning home to talk with Alfred Pennyworth (Charles Dance), we'd begin to see some confliction from Bruce. As while the good he'd done thus far was clear to see, he also couldn't hide concerns for some of the changes that Gotham was taking also. During this conversation we'd see further tease for Alfred's past as he told Bruce that he'd been keeping tabs on Selina Kyle in Port Orsegwo before mentioning that he'd also began compiling the records which Bruce had asked for. Here we'd learn that Bruce was well aware of the changes and goings on in the world. Looking to do more, Bruce had used Alfred's knowledge to craft contingency plans on threats to the world. As he'd study the files, Bruce would ask Alfred to take his place at a event being held at Haleys Circus.

The story would then take a slightly lighter turn as we'd be taken to Metropolis for the next chapter. In a similar contrast to Year One, this chapter of the story would continue soon after The Man of Steel left off. In the opening scene of this part we'd see Clark Kent (Matt Bomer) and Lois Lane (Allison Brie), now a recently developed couple going out for a meal with Clarks' parents Jonathan (Steve Carrell) and Martha Kent (Laura Linney). Having grown closer with Lois firmly in the know of his identity, Clark and Lois would prove to have great chemistry as a couple and as colleagues. For while Clark had continued to impress at the Planet with his work. It was Lois and her secret project which was their true focus. As with the approval of Perry White (Jimmy Smits), Lois Lane aided by Ron Troupe (Echo Kellum) and Cat Grant (Halle Berry) would continue to look into the goings on at Lex Corp. Of course what they wasn't truly aware of was a reporter of the planet George Taylor (Oliver Martinez) was trying to report everything he could to Mercy Graves (Anna Kendrick) regarding this situation. This however in a slight tease hadn't gone unnoticed by Steve Lombard (Chace Crawford).

Every report put together by Taylor was personally over looked by Mercy who in turn would relay this information to a bemused Lex Luthor (Denzel Washington). Aware that for his plans he needed the world to see him in a positive light. Lex in conversation with police chief David Corporon (Julian Glover) would ask for the chief to look up any potential sources of weakness or pressure points on those investigating him. On top of this Lex made it clear to Mercy to keep the pressure on Taylor knowing what'll happen should this progress. Later that day in another secret meeting Lex Luthor would meet with Superman in an attempt to be partners. Again however Superman would respectfully refuse Lex's offer stating that for now he had to do this alone. Again despite his friendly exterior Lex took this as a major slight that Superman was looking down upon him and his ego could not accept an alien being the one to judge him. He wouldn't be the only one as we'd learn with a vested interest in Superman as we'd see several photographers snapping pictures of the Man of Steel and relaying them to Alfred Pennyworth. This would be the least of Clark Kent's concerns however as when he'd head to the Fortress of Solitude, as it would be here that Clark would receive warnings by a hologram of his father Jor-El (Dougray Scott) of a dangerous enemy heading to earth.

Again we'd then shift in the story this time to the island of Themyscira. Unlike the other two stories covered just far the scenes we'd see were literally just after the events of Introducing Wonder Woman. As we'd see Diana Prince (Jaime Alexander) return home with the statue of Ares (Daniel Craig) to a heroes reaction from from her fellow Amazons. Following an emotional reunion with her close friend Mala (Tracy Spiridakos). Diana would also find herself met by old rivals Orana (Rose Leslie) and Artemis (Elodie Yung). While there was a mutual respect which had formed between Diana and Artemis, things were still frosty between Diana and Orana. Another reunion would be Diana with her mother Hippolyta (Kate Winslet) and aunt Antiope (Laurie Holden). Despite having her misgivings of Diana going to the man world, Hippolyta was unable to hide her pride at Diana vanquishing the villainous Ares. It would be in conversing with Hippolyta, Antipe and Philipus (Naomi Campbell) that Diana told her mother of Nubia (Nicole Beharie) and her quest in the man world.

Remarking that Phobos (Oliver Stark) was still out there and needed to be stopped. Diana wished to return to the world of man knowing that in her world the mission wasn't complete and she wanted to bring her sister home. While Hippolyta would process this news we'd be taken back to England where Steve Trevor (Josh Duhamel) would join Etta Candy (Orla Brady) in a meeting with Phil Darnell (Colin Firth). During this conversation the trio seemed unaware that their so called ally Maxwell Lord (Channing Tatum) was the one housing Doctor Poison (Rachel Weisz) and Paula Von Gunther (Sophia Marceau). In fact while Lord's endgame was yet to be deciphered it appeared that with the influence of Phobos, Lord was aware of an incoming threat coming perhaps from one of Phobos' memories of Ares and his teachings. This is why Lord stressed that for now Poison and Von Gunther were to go underground as he instead looked to unite them to combat what is coming.

Again the story would then shift to the next member of the Justice League as we'd head to Central City. Continuing only a couple of months from where Born to Run left off. We'd see Barry Allen (Dylan O'Brien) continue to grow into the role of the Scarlet Speedster known as the Flash. Things had not only changed however in Barry's life under the mask but also away from it as his relationship with Iris West (Shailene Woodley) had began to flourish. The pair of course had grown close following suffering losses of their fathers and Iris would fully support Barry's extracurricular activities as the Flash. Aiding Barry in his work of course would be Emil Hamilton (Matthew Modine) and also Tina McGee (Madeline Mantock) both of whom were fully commited to using Star Labs research and facilities for the betterment of mankind. On top of this Barry's work at the Central City crime lab would also continue as James Forrest (Morgan Freeman) continued to mentor Barry as well as many of his employees. Showing Barry's further growth we'd see him finally begin to make up for lost time as even his close friend Patty Spivot (Elizabeth Lail) noticed positive changes in his behavior and time keeping.

Of course not everyone was fully on board with this new Barry Allen, as Kristen Kramer (Kacey Rohl) could never quite shake her doubts about Barry. While respectful of him as person, it seemed that something about Barry's upswing just didn't make sense with her and this would cause her to be suspicious of Barry. One doubter however of Barry who had since turned a corner was that of David Singh (Jay Ali). Now no longer paired with Paulson, Singh would be working closely with Frank Curtis (Michael Rapaport) and the duo would work many cases in which they was aided by Barry's theories. With names mentioned in passing as Snart, Rory and Woodward as recent names who Barry's work has helped catch. It was in his work as the Flash that Barry had further helped the CCPD. While in public Captain Frye (Rufus Sewell) kept a hard edge regarding the Flash, in private he would acknowledge the Flash being a great assist. This would include a recent case in which the Flash stopped a prolific criminal by the name of Joel Cochin (Tim Griffin) who was in the middle of a crime spree.

Having firmly stayed on Earth for these first few chapters of the Justice League film. We'd soon make the voyage into space for the next part. Yet first we'd travel to Coast City as Hal Jordan (John Krasinski) returned to earth having finally been welcomed and recognized as part of the Green Lantern corps. Hal however wouldn't take this journey on his own as he'd be joined by Appa Ali Aspa (Donald Sutherland) who was looking to learn the ways of Earth. Assuming a more human form it would only be Thomas Kalamaku (Forrest Wheeler) who was aware of Ali's real origin. In fact it was seen as cool by Thomas to introduce an alien to earth's culture which provided some levity to proceedings. While Thomas was the only one who knew of Hal's identity as the Green Lantern, Carol Ferris (Odette Annable) would have her suspicions based on some familiarities she had noticed between Hal and the Lantern. Having reconnected with his family, Hal seemed to have truly found some peace in his life as he'd make frequent trips to OA. During these trips we'd see that Hal was no longer seen as undeserving or just a recruit. Instead he was looked upon as a true Green Lantern.

Having earned the acceptance and respect of Sinestro (Sean Harris) and also now helping Kilowog (Nonzo Alonzie) mentor new recruits. Hal would be truly trusted with continuing on the legacy of his fallen comrades. However while Hal and Sinestro may have formed a close bond. It was very clear that Sinestro was keeping secrets from Hal. This was shown in his fascination with fear and his research into Parallax. Of course it wouldn't be Sinestro for now who would be a concern to the Green Lanterns, as instead a beacon for help was activated. During a routine inspection as we'd see in flashes Tomar Re (Hank Azaria) would lead an expedition throughout one of the sectors. This was down to strange emissions being detected. On their arrival this Lantern unit would encounter a fearsome alien known as Despero (Chukwudi Iwuji) who would effortlessy wipe out most of the soldiers with only a badly wounded Tomar remaining. On hearing this story Hal would race to earth as Tomar indicated that Despero was heading to that district.

Returning to earth it would then be time for the next story to be told as we headed to Amnesty Bay. While the original Aquaman film may not have been as well received as the other entries so far in the DC Extended Universe. Having vanquished Corum Rath and took his role as the new King of Atlantis, it seemed that Arthur Curry (Alexander Skarsgard) had firmly taken on the task of trying to bring harmony between the lands above and under the sea. While he and Mera (Emma Stone) still looked to establish their relationship ahead of their eventual marriage. Arthur would also further his growth as a king as he allowed Prince Orm (Karl Urban) a chance to make his departure and allowed him a full day before swearing to send guards after him. Aided by his friend Erika Watson (Milyana Vantub) who would help lay some ground work for welcoming Atlanteans to Amnesty Bay. While this was met with hesitation on both sides it genuinely seemed like many in Atlantis had changed their ways and way of thought.

This would also be the same for the Xebellians who seemed eager to mend fences between the two factions. Ryus (Graham McTavish) in particular despite being open to embracing those above the sea was still eager to see a wedding happen sooner than later between Mera and Arthur. In Arthur's court we would see both Tula (Georgia Hirst) amd Murk (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) loyally continue to serve with Tula eager to connect with her brother. At the same time both Atlanna (Winona Ryder) and Vulko (Jonathan Rhys Davies) would loyaly now act as Arthur's advisers and in Atlanna's case. She would help Mera lead both kingdoms while Arthur was away which would include the hunt for Orm and also Mera's sister Hila (Halston Sage). In the first tease to close out this chapter we'd see Arthur on his arrival to Amnesty Bay notice a flashing green light from the sky above.
The next cut however would introduce our villains. With Despero already making a brief appearance at least in short glimpses we'd begin with his story. Described at one time as just a humble scientist on his home planet. Yet it would be through his own research and experimentation that Despero transformed from a humble scientist on Kalanor to a vicious dictator obsessed with power. His obsession with nuclear energy would only further cause Despero's descent into villainy as he completely transformed his form from a skinny, pink skinned alien with a third hypnotic eye to a physically imposing powerhouse. It wouldn't just be Despero in space however that the League would have to contend with as for the first time we'd see Starro drifting through space and making a beeline through to earth. However there would already be threats on earth which we would soon learn was the Queen of Fables (Rosamund Pike). A dangerous exile from a mysterious dimension the Queen of Fables was a powerful sorceress looking to conquer. In order to do so she'd need a knight to aid her in her crimes and she'd recruit the recently arrested Cochin. Granting him with powers to become the Paragon.

It would seem this was all part of a sinister plot or coalition formed of unlikely individuals had for reasons unknown united together. This conspiracy seemingly had a agenda in mind as Starro would hit the earth first and begin using it's drones to corrupt and influence all those it could. No one would be safe from this not even Atlantis or Paradise Island as both Wonder Woman and Aquaman had to fight against their own people. Seeking to stop the violence and destruction these drones were causing Clark Kent would jump into the fray as he looked to save the world from itself. As he would do so Clark would be the first hero to encounter another as he'd meet Barry Allen for the first time. While both were in their heroic guises they quickly recognized that they were both looking to help and save others. Soon they would be further joined by Hal Jordan. Having been aware of the alien threats to earth, Hal was taken aback at the size of Starro but soon he'd be joined by Sinestro to combat Starro. With Superman and Flash also quickly joining them in this battle we'd soon see in a surprising appearance Prince Orm (Karl Urban) would appear and begin helping save civilians from Starro's attack.

What would truly turn the tide against Starro however was the arrival of Martian Manhunter (Sterling K. Brown). The powerful martian would appear before Clark, Barry, Sinestro and Hal and he would help turn the tide against Starro. Realizing that he had been bested Starro showing an awareness and intelligence that one might not expect would flee. Before we got the crossover we was awaiting however we'd be treated to a much different union. Sitting down inside a fancy restaurant establishment we'd see Bruce Wayne joined by Lex Luthor and Maxwell Lord. The dynamic between the trio was one which was fascinating to see as for the first time it appeared that Lex had a peer. However despite their xenophobia to aliens it wouldn't be Maxwell Lord who Lex held in such high esteem. Seeing Lord as nothing more than a government shill, Lex instead saw behind the bluster of Bruce Wayne and swiftly recognized the intelligence of the man sat across from him. During this meeting it appeared that Lex looked to sway both Bruce and Max to his side of thinking. Yet it would be Max Lord who surprised everyone as he revealed he was looking to form a team. While Lex Luthor may not have been willing to buy into this Bruce Wayne was and later on Max would organize a meeting.

Going undercover as an ally of the Bat, Bruce would be introduced to Diana Prince and Steve Trevor (Josh Duhamel). We'd learn that being aware of the threat posed by these alien invaders to their world, Diana had returned to the world of man in order to stop this threat once and for all. Agreeing for the Bat to meet with Diana later as they had another to find. Diana would later meet with Batman and quickly identify him as the same man she met earlier. However she would bring Bruce to Aquaman for a meeting who had also become aware of the threats they was facing. Before this trio could truly meet however they would be confronted by Paragon. Shown to be a skilled and formidable combatant based on powers given to him by the Queen of Fables, Paragon was perhaps slightly overconfident of himself going against these three heroes and it would soon be shown when a trident by Aquaman would mortally wound Paragon. As Paragon bled out and succumbed to his wounds, Paragon would warn them of the Queen. From here Martian Manhunter would appear before this trio before he'd bring them to a meeting with the other heroes.

This would be our first chance to witness some of the dynamics of the group. Beginning most crucially with that of Batman and Superman. It would be clear that both men were well aware of who one another was. This would include in private Superman revealing that he knew that Bruce had been surveilling and keeping tabs on him for a while now. While there may have been some tension between the two of them. Both of them would share a great relationship with Diana. With this meeting being assisted by Max Lord who would find them a secret location to meet. We'd see a quick bond form between Hal Jordan and Barry Allen. Aquaman meanwhile despite acknowledging the threat they would all face was noted for keeping a distance from the rest of them. During this meeting Max Lord revealed thanks to his contacts and use of Lexcorp technology as well as other sources. He had compiled a lot of data on what they had to go up against. Remarking that while Starro had fled that is someone who can always return. Lord says for now focus has to be on both Despero and the so called Queen of Fables. During this meeting we'd see a slight bond of respect form between Arthur Curry and Bruce Wayne while Martian Manhunter made the point of mentioning this group isn't a team. It was his belief something darker was pulling the strings out there.

This would be quickly established during a confrontation between the Queen of Fables and Despero. The dynamic between the pair was tense with the Queen of Fables shown to be a control freak looking to pull back some power and control for herself. Despero meanwhile was angry and hellbent on revenge and this power struggle between the pair would lead to all out war breaking out between the pair. The Queen would summon all manner of fairytale creatures to battle against Despero and it would be during this battle we'd see the Justice League truly come together for the first time as they looked to battle these threats. While Steve Trevor, James Gordon, Erika Watson and Jillian Pearlman among others were shown to be helping save and escort people stuck in ground zero away. The Flash and Green Lantern would unite with Aquaman to battle against the Queen's fairytale creatures. This would allow Diana Prince in an act of quick thinking to trap the Queen of Fables in the bill of rights knowing that the Queen would be unable to escape that book of text and use it as her own.

With the Queen of Fables defeated we'd see Batman and Superman be forced to put any tension or difficulties aside to combat Despero. Shown to be a powerful foe who even Superman had issues with defeating on his own. It would be Martian Manhunter who truly come into play during this as he entered the mind of Despero and showed him a world in which he'd won and reigned supreme. This would put Despero in a state of peace and cause him to regress to his former form. With Despero still trapped in this mental prison, Superman would manage to banish Despero into the Phantom Zone once and for all. With these threats to the earth defeated it would be Max Lord who appeared before the group and revealed in a tease that he was already constructing a headquarters for the team. With that we'd then move onto the closing scenes which showed the Justice League having come together at least for now. At peace with his decision to reveal himself for the first time Martian Manhunter returned home saying if he was needed he would appear. A budding friendship based on respect would also be formed between Bruce and Clark. The real bond of note however was the close friendship formed between Barry and Hal.

The final closing scene of the movie would not only lightly tease a race between Clark Kent and Barry Allen but also show potential chemistry between Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince as the Justice League film came to a close. Yet the post credit scene would show and add a lot more understanding to what had transpired with these attacks on earth. Shown to be taking place on an unknown planet. We would see a now dead Starro being torn into by a variety of fearsome, demonic looking aliens. As they tore shreds into Starro while they fed on his corpse. The closing moment would pull away revealing this to all be under the orders of Darkseid (Idris Elba) who hadn't taken kindly to Starro fleeing or his plans failure.

RAISE THEM BONES: SWAMP THING CASTING ANNOUNCED!

Continuing this trend of announcements as the DC Extended Universe continues to grow. Another big addition has been unveiled today as we have learned a new addition to the DC's heroic ranks and also a new founding member of the Justice League Dark. This is the third member of the group confirmed as we have already had the castings for Zatanna Zatara (Ana De Armas) and John Constantine (Dan Stevens) announced in the past few weeks. This third casting again will not come to a surprise as one of the solo films set for Chapter Three was that of Raise them Bones: The Swamp Thing origin story. Of course this is not the first time we will have seen the titular character in live action or on the big screen for that matter. With a feature film starring Ray Wise and Dick Durock as the character of Alec Holland and Swamp-Thing respectively.

Along with this the character memorably had a live action series back in 2019. It is believed that unlike many past iterations, the heads of DC and producers made the decision to fully recast the character. They are not opposed however to using actor Andy Bean in a different capacity should another role come up which might be suitable for him. However we can confirm that horror actor Derek Mears will be returning to Swamp Thing as he will be reprising his role as the creature Swamp Thing itself. It is said that Mears is someone that the DC Extended Universe will use in frequent capacity for many of this creature feature like characters. It's said regarding the casting of Alec Holland, the writers wanted someone who could greatly play the idealistic nature of Holland who truly believes what he is doing will help change the world.

It's said only a handful of actors were met with regarding this role. The feeling was that the writers had a set vision in mind for the story and where they wanted to go with it. A few names confirmed to have undertaken at least one if not more meetings regarding the role included Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Michael Huisman and Liev Schreiber. One other name mentioned to have had several meetings and actually come quite close to accepting the role was Joseph Gordon-Levitt. However due to scheduling conflicts Levitt had to drop out of the role but has since taken on a supporting role in Quiver. Two other names we know to have auditioned for the role are Warren Christie and David Lyons. Both men despite perhaps not having the names that some of their competition had, were said to have impressed.

It can now be confirmed however that the man who will bring Swamp Thing to life and also play the role of Alec Holland will be a man who is no stranger to the Superhero genre Aaron Eckhart. Eckhart of course memorably starred as Harvey Dent in the Dark Knight franchise and we know that this Swamp Thing movie will be a reunion of sorts with both Gary Oldman and Maggie Gyllenhaal also set to star. Eckhart of course has memorably appeared in the Has Fallen franchise also recently appeared in films such as Midway and Battle Los Angeles.

The Martian cast rounded out

Following the conclusion to the Justice League film, we now enter off the back of what was an ambitious crossover event into the next chapter of the DC extended universe's rebirthing project. With the Justice League film concluded and overall receiving positive reviews for it's story telling and future plotlines. While the main detractions were based down to the rushed development of some of the villains in the story. From here part two of the DC's rebirth will begin with a character who made a surprise appearance as part of the film this being Martian Manhunter (Sterling K Brown). Set to be an origin story filled with family turmoil, we know that this story will very much begin with the turmoil which caused J'onn to come to earth and put himself into exile.

THE DC FINDS IT'S DEVIL ~ LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR TO APPEAR IN ETRIGAN VS. BLUE DEVIL

As we enter the second chapter of the DC Extended Universe, we know a big story of this second being just how the world reacts to knowing how many high powered, superheroes there are out in the world. This includes the revelation that aliens and enhanced individuals lived in the world. While we begin to tell this story, focus has also shifted to the future of the franchise and chapter three. This chapter which we know will focus on the introduction of the supernatural and demonic. With a full list of films released for Chapter Three which will culminate with the crossover Justice League Dark movie. We have already been introduced so far to the characters of Zatanna, Constantine and Swamp Thing along with the actors that will bring them to light. Now we will be introduced to a character who while only confirmed to be appearing in Etrigan vs. Blue Devil, it is believed that this character will appear regularly through the franchise. This character of course being the devil himself Lucifer Morningstar.

A character who has been brought to life across numerous adaptions in the past. Lucifer Morningstar first appeared in live action back in the 2005 Constantine film played by Peter Stomare. From there the character was truly brought to life by Welsh actor Tom Ellis who memorably portrayed the character across five seasons of the hit show Lucifer while making cameo appearances in the Arrowverse. The final portrayal of late is that of Gwendoline Christie in the recent Sandman series. It is said while producers did consider reaching out to Peter Stomare and Gwendoline Christie, there was a real debate about reusing Tom Ellis in the role. The belief being that Tom Ellis made an iconic performance as the role and had the writers and directors genuinely were put in the situation of going against their past edict of recasting and renewing the universe. It was said that Ellis himself was happy to be in talks about returning to the part before a decision was made to go with a new casting for this new character of Lucifer Morningstar.

It was said after this talks with Tom Ellis and a lot of deliberation, things regarding the casting of Lucifer Morningstar were perhaps as chaotic of a situation the DC Extended Universe has faced yet. This was partly because two names who were believed to be early front runners would soon swiftly become unavailable. The first of which was Hugh Jackman while the second was Anthony Ramos both of whom had signed on and agreed to be apart of the MCU. It was also said that actors Timothee Chamalet and David Tennant for a time were in consideration before both men instead have signed on to appear in other roles with the DC extended universe. One name we know for a fact to have narrowly missed out on the role and also did so for the role of Green Arrow is that of Boyd Holbrook. It's said that Holbrook is someone who the writers do want to work with and at this stage it is a case of finding the right character for him. The belief was Holbrook was a front runner until a late contender very much took the role of Lucifer.

thats-a-no-go-nic-cage.gif

In some exciting and unexpected news it has been confirmed that playing the role of Lucifer Morningstar will be none other than actor Nicolas Cage. This of course is far from Nicolas Cage's first excursion into the supernatural or superhero genre having memorably appeared as Ghost Rider in two films previously. It's said that Cage's recent performances in films such as Sympathy from the Devil greatly checked the boxes for what writers were looking for. This iteration of Lucifer is said to possess the unshakeable confidence and inner peace with himself one may expect while also being packed with an indifference to humankind and his perception. But beneath his confident exterior lies a deadly and Machiavellian with little regard for anyone who he can't use.

BLUE DEVIL VS. ETRIGAN CASTINGS ANNOUNCED

Perhaps one of the more intriguing or curious offerings that the third chapter of the DC extended Universe has so far is Blue Devil vs. Etrigan. Billed curiously as a supernatural clash of the titans. Some have said that this film is going to be a comic book variation of Freddie vs Jason. While the reason for this battle has yet to be established it has been teased that there is a reason these two have been put in opposition of one another with some believing that Lucifer Morningstar (Nicolas Cage) will be the one to have put them on opposite sides with one another. It is said that both characters will be receiving their fair build through the film with their origin stories told with an option for both to receive their own television events depending on the reception to the film and their respective characters. Now today in some exciting news we can reveal who will be bringing both of these titular characters to life in this supernatural showdown.

Beginning with Daniel Cassidy aka Blue Devil. We know that the story the film will cover is that of a stunt man and former action film star of the Blue Devil franchise. A noted special effects wizard who would often construct and design his own costumes and equipment. It would be because of some of the work of his colleagues that Daniel would first come into contact with the supernatural and in this case the demonic. This would not only bind Daniel to the Blue Devil exoskeleton suit he had crafted but later due to repeated encounters with the occult. While at first Daniel Cassidy would look to transform and revert back to his human ways and in desperation he'd turn to the occult. Soon Blue Devil would begin to embrace what he'd become and use these new powers and abilities for good.

With this not being the first time that the Blue Devil had been brought to life in live action. It was said that Ian Ziering was allowed to audition and try out for this new iteration of the character. Ziering of course memorably played the role in the first season of the Swamp Thing show, while Ziering in the end wouldn't be selected for the role. The belief is that Ziering is someone who the heads of the DC would be happy to work with him in the future. Two names we know who were approached about the role were Liam Hemsworth and Scott Eastwood with Scott Eastwood rumored to have auditioned for the role. Daniel Radcliffe is also said to have tried out for the role before being offered a different role for a future film. It was said in what was only a select group of auditions, the next auditionee would be selected for the role.

6cffa8932daa29c6e90c770b8f0a95da.gif

This selection would be American actor Lee Pace. Pace of course is not a stranger to the superhero genre having starred previously as Ronan the Accuser in the MCU. It was said that his role as Ronan showed that Pace had little issue with the costume and prosthesis work needed for a role like the Blue Devil. On top of this Lee made memorable appearances in the Hobbit franchise as well as Pushing Daisies. It is said that Lee Pace has a proven track record of portraying an unlikely hero and is perfectly able to characterize the vain movie star and reluctant hero who he'd late become.

Of course it wouldn't just be Blue Devil we'd be introduced to in this clash of the titans as for the first time the demon known as Etrigan would be brought into live action. Described as a hero just as unlikely as Daniel Cassidy. Etrigan is a violent demon and the son of the powerful Belial who has long been looking to rise the ranks of hell. Described as vicious even by the standards of hell, Etrigan is believed for reasons unknown to be have been bound by the wizard Merlin to a dying knight by the name of Jason Blood. This would find Etrigan and Jason Blood sharing the same body and psyche with the pair at first not being harmonious. Yet as time passed by it would seem that the pair managed to find some cohesion with Etrigan honestly coming to find himself fighting for the sides of good.

Unlike the role of Blue Devil which seemed to have quite a small and select casting call. It appeared that there was a lot of names interested in the character of Etrigan and Jason Blood. Two names said to have been in the early running were Joel Edgerton and Jason Clarke. Both actors were said to have thrown their names in the hat having been intrigued by the portrayal of a jekyll and hyde like character. Two other names believed to have been in talks about the role were Luke Evans and Eddie Redmayne. It is said in the case of Eddie Redmayne he has potentially been offered a different role for a future DCEU project.

giphy.gif

We can confirm today that starring opposite Lee Pace will be English actor David Oyelowo. The multiple award winning actor has made appearances in a multitude of films and TV series including Jack Reacher, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Spooks and Nightingale. This will be Oyelowo's first foray in the superhero genre. The English actor is said to be someone who producers feel is more than able to portray the honorable knight Jason Blood while also conveying the angry temperament and volatility of the demonic Etrigan. Which will make him an interesting opponent to the unwilling hero Daniel Cassidy.

JUSTICE LEAGUE II UPDATE! VILLAINS CONFIRMED!

justice-league-logo-design.png

As we begin to enter the next chapter of the DC extended universe's rebirth. Reviews and the critical reaction so far to the first arc has flown in far and fast. While many have praised so far the comic accuracy of the backstory and costumes as well as the tone of the revamp. Others have still voiced their displeasure at another revival or rebranding of characters. While some films like Year One, Man of Steel and Born to Run have been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews others like Introducing Wonder Woman, Green Lanterns' Light and Throne of Atlantis have been met with some criticism based on rushed plots, bloated storylines and pacing. It's been said the reaction to the first Justice League film while mostly positive has also been met with some criticism a lot of which was focused on the villain side of the equation. With some feeling that villains Despero (Chukwudi Iwuji) and Queen of Fables (Rosamund Pike) both were worthy of having their own solo runs rather than being put in a union of sorts with Starro and Paragon (Tim Griffin). Despite this overall the film did receive mostly positive reviews as it set up the future of the project well with the tease of Idris Elba's Darkseid and the surprise appearance of Sterling K Brown's Martian Manhunter.

We know that the villains in the second Justice League film will be a group known as the Intergang. Described as a highly organized crime syndicate with ties across the globe. The Intergang has been run for decades by it's leader "Boss" Moxie Mannheim. Mannheim is described as a highly connected and powerful leader who has long inspired loyalty amongst his group. However it's believed that recent health issues have caused Moxie to question his mortality and seen him look desperately for a cure. In doing so Moxie would not only relinquish some of the power and responsibility of the Intergang to his violent and deranged nephew Bruno but he'd also reach out to his business associate Morgan Edge for help. Edge being a worldly known Media mogul who has long funded the Intergang. Described as a ruthless capitalist Morgan Edge is someone who isn't afraid of making deals with the Devil to get what he wants. This is what caused him to work alongside the Mannheim family and also to employ disgraced researcher Dabney Donovan to their cause to treat Moxie. However soon a deal from an unexpected source comes along which transforms the Intergang from just an international syndicate to a global threat!

Playing the role of Moxie Mannheim will be veteran actor Andy Garcia. Garcia of course memorably appeared in the Godfather III and was a staple in the Oceans' franchise. It's said that Garcia's character of Boss Moxie will be loosely based off of the character of Terry from the Ocean's franchise. Portraying his nephew Bruno will be actor Bobby Cannavale. Cannavale is a character actor who isn't unknown to the crime genre himself appearing in the Irishman and Boardwalk Empire. It's said that it was his erratic performance in Mr. Robot however which truly sold producers on his fit as Bruno. Portraying Morgan Edge will be English actor Lennie James. While many fans of the Walking Dead will be used to Lennie in a more heroic role as Morgan. It's said that role is what sold writers on his character as they truly want Morgan to be someone with whom the audience feel they can trust only to later see the truth to. Rounding the group out will be actor Jeremy Davies best known for roles in Lost and Justified who will be playing researcher Dabney Donovan. Davies was said to be the first and only choice for this role with his chaotic energy being what drew directors to his suitability for the role.

RAGMAN CASTING CONFIRMED TODAY

With the DC Extended Universe continuing to flesh out it's upcoming third chapter which will introduce the supernatural, demonic and occult. One part of this story will be a miniseries which will focus on the origin story of the hero known as Ragman. Believed to be a eight episode special this series will focus on the lineage of Ragman which has been passed down through the Regan family. Today we will announce both castings of the father and son of the Regan family with both of course operating under the guise of the Ragman mantle. It is believed that this will be quite the tragic story for the character referred to as the Tatterdemalion of Justice. This of course will not be the first live action appearance of Ragman with the character memorably appearing in Arrow played by Joe Dinicol.

It is said that writers and producers didn't undertake a meeting with Dinicol as they felt that a refresh would be perfect for such a lesser known role. Adding to the intrigue of these castings were the fact that we would see both father and son in the guise of Ragman. Starting with the character of Gerry Regan, We know that a few early names approached regarding the role included Luke Wilson, Jay Baruchel, Matthew Broderick, James Marsden and Sean Penn. It is said that writers wanted someone who truly could play a father figure in the film and this is why later one of the leading candidates for the role was John Travolta. One name we know sadly to be excluded due to scheduling conflicts would be Mel Gibson, however it is said that writers are now keen to work with Mel Gibson in a future villainous role.

D0Ug.gif

It can now be confirmed that veteran actor John Cusack will be portraying the role of Gerry Regan. Cusack of course is best known for roles in films such as Con Air, 2012 and identity. Cusack is believed to have quickly shown himself to portray both the father figure and humble tailor who also has in the past been a vigilante. It is said that Cusack very much impressed producers with his performances and screen tests as the role. Cusack was also said to have made a point in contributing ideas and traits for the character who is very much described as an open book for which the actor has more than embraced with open arms. Cusack is also believed to have sat in on writing meetings for this series perhaps in the hopes that this would be the start of a career resurgence.

As for the casting of Rory Regan who will very much be the main character of this story. It was said that the call and auditions were quite a small and intimate affair. Some names confirmed to have auditioned for the part included Nat Wolff, Alex Wolff, Brenton Thwaites, Logan Lerman and Josh Peck. One name we know that writers were eager to undertake a meeting with was Taron Egerton, unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts we now know that this wouldn't be possible. It's said another name rumored to have auditioned and been offered another role as part of the DC Extended Universe is that of Stranger Things star Joe Keery.

tumblr_oldks5apxp1sw8mdno1_500.gifv

It can now be confirmed that actor Joshua Bowman will be undertaking the role of Rory Regan aka Ragman. The English actor who started out in soaps such as Holby City would make his name in roles such as hit television series Revenge. It's said that Bowman is someone who showed himself in auditions to be more than capable of portraying the conflicted nature of the Ragman character who at times walks the line of hero and villain. On top of this Bowman was said to have shared great on screen chemistry with John Cusack which made him a swift favorite to portray the son of Cusack's character Gerry.

IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO FACE YOUR FEARS

The doctor is in! With the DC Extended universe looking to continue it's expansion. We've recently been introduced to several key heroes and villains who will be soon to make their debuts in the franchise. With reports indicating that Arkham Asylum will soon get some prominent focus throughout the Batman storyline. With names like Jeremiah Arkham and Hugo Strange rumored to be making appearances in upcoming projects and reports that a Hugo Strange announcement in particular is imminent. We can now confirm today one particular member of Arkham staff who will be making their debut during the Gordon: Escape from Arkham event. This will be a key character from the Batman lore and it will of course be Dr. Jonathan Crane!

The doctor who is of course also known as the moniker of Scarecrow is one of Batman's most notorious villains who has appeared in many stories, games and live action adaptions. One of the more notable appearances that Scarecrow made in live action was that of his multiple appearances in the Dark Knight trilogy played by Cillian Murphy. It was said that there was a lot of debate regarding reusing Cillian Murphy for the role. This was down to executives being eager to work with the Oppenheimer star and also how impressed they was with his performance. Sadly as we'd learn a deal was unable to be made however we do know that Murphy has in fact been approached with being at the helm of another project across the DC Extended Universe.

Murphy wouldn't be the only actor ruled out for various reasons but offered additional roles as we know that X Men star Nicholas Hoult is believed to have been interested in the role before being selected for what is rumored to be a heroic role in the DC Extended Universe. It is believed that Adam Driver and David Tennant were also interested in the role of Jonathan Crane but we can confirm that both actors have since signed on to different projects in the DC Extended Universe. Two other names believed to have auditioned or at least took meetings for the role were said to be Adrien Brody and in a surprising move X Men star Kodi Smit-Mcphee who while a little younger than the planned character was said to have impressed also.

In the end it would be actor Zachary Quinto who has been chosen to bring the character of Jonathan Crane aka Scarecrow to life. This will not be Quinto's first time portraying a sinister doctor in an asylum with his notable role in AHS Asylum very much being used as a base for this role. It is believed that his cold performance also in the early parts of star trek also made Quinto seem like the right fit for the sadistic, cruel, deranged, manipulative and fear obsessed Jonathan Crane. It is believed that while Crane will appear in the Gordon story this will be one of many appearances for Scarecrow throughout the universe.

HUGO STRANGE CASTING CONFIRMED!

As the DC's Rebirth looks to continue it's rebirth. More and more iconic characters from many of it's stories are coming to life from fine print. Armed already with the knowledge that further depth was to be given to Arkham Asylum. It was no surprise to hear names such as Jeremiah and Amadeus Arkham mentioned. Following the casting announcement of Zachary Quinto playing Jonathan Crane, it was no surprise that Hugo Strange would be soon to follow. Believed to be making his arrival in the Gordon: Escape from Arkham event, Hugo Strange like many variations previous of the character is described as the chief of psychiatry at the Asylum and is believed to be a close friend of Jonathan Crane. It's said that Strange is a man with a penchant for the unorthodox and at times his methods have been brought into question.

With Hugo Strange only appearing once before in live action and that being the show Gotham. It was said that many expected just an out and out recasting. However writers and producers were said to be a big fan of BD Wong's portrayal that they called him in for an audition and meeting. While he was said to have put on a solid audition, executives instead decided to go once again with the revamp believing there may have been someone out there more capable of playing the brilliant but obsessive doctor. Knowing that Strange's demeanor and personality were reminiscent of a character he had played previously. One name quickly reached out to was that of Giancarlo Esposito but sadly scheduling conflicts put a halt to this. Excitingly however we do know that Giancarlo is believed to have auditioned and been offered another role with the Rebirth.

A couple of names quickly ruled out were Jared Harris and Vincent D'Onofrio. While both men were said to be more than able to portray the role. Harris had accepted another role in the DC Rebirth while Vincent had agreed to return to the MCU to reprise his Kingpin role. It is believed that writers sat down with legendary actor Anthony Hopkins about the role before deciding instead to offer Hopkins another role in the Escape from Arkham event. A few other names confirmed to have expressed interest in the role or outright auditioned included William Fichtner, James Purefoy, Michael Emmerson, Peter Capaldi, Donald Sutherland, Neil Sandilands, David Morrisey and Claes Bang. It was said that all of whom brought something different in their auditions before the decision was made.

We now know that Stanley Tucci will be joining the DC Extended Universe and will be the man to bring Professor Hugo Strange to life. While this maybe Stanley Tucci's first foray into the superhero genre. It will not be his first time in a sinister and villainous role with Tucci's performance in the Lovely Bones very much showing his capabilities of playing a seemingly friendly and helpful individual who harbors something sinister beneath his professional facade. It is believed that this will not be a one off appearance for the character of Hugo Strange as we know that Stanley has signed a multiple picture deal with the DCEU.
