I think there was a BTB in the past that I've read where WWF closed in the mid 90's because Vince lost the steriod trial, went to jail and the backlash ends up getting WWF kicked off network TV and ultimately it fizzles out just as WCW is starting to rise. This would be too early for nWo and stuff since it'd probably lead to no Monday Night Wars at all as Nitro debuts unopposed.

But I think if you play with history a bit, you could come up with a scenario where the Attitude era never existed, WWF never moved on past Next Generation and the rise of the nWo is even bigger for WCW against the family friendly WWF product. Maybe Stone Cold never takes off in WWF, he gets injured and never wins KOTR and delivers his 3:16 promo. Maybe The Rock ends up coming from University of Miami and gets drafted to the NFL and never gets into wrestling. Triple H stays as just Hunter Hearst Helmsley and never gets over. With WWF never able to get over the hump that was the lows of 1995 and create the stars that ultimately made the Attitude Era... ratings continue to decline, they lose their TV deal and you could also probably throw in another Vince scandal pretty easily as a reason to be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.

This popped up in my feed so it got me wondering… what if a BTB was centered around WCW winning the war? What year would you do it? I think late 98. But with a few moments changing. For example, Austin breaking his neck forced him to miss WrestleMania and we don’t get the epic Tyson and Austin moment.
After WWF is driven out of existence, how likely is it that Vince starts pumping money and resources into ECW (more than he already was?) either buying it outright or becoming a partner of some kind? Whether that's because he can't stay out of wrestling, or to rebuild his empire from scratch in hopes of one day striking back at WCW?
