Best way to quit a job you hate?

Let's just say you're about to leave a job that you really don't give a damn about for whatever reason and you don't necessarily need any references from it. Perhaps you're leaving for another job or going back to school.... whatever. How would you go about it?

I have done this a couple times actually. I'm usually option 2, I give my 2 weeks notice, but I'm seriously not trying to impress anyone those last 2 weeks. I sort of take a paid vacation. I do what I'm supposed to, but that's it. I won't attempt any kind of problem-solving or anything that makes me think or work too hard.

Set fire to the bosses office before leaving after giving 2 weeks notice.

Just joking, probably option 1, for lack of a better term I'm pretty "anal-retentive" when it comes to such things, everything has to be perfect and organized.

While antagonizing people can be fun in the short term, in the long term it just isn't worth having enemies or a really negative rep/group of people who resent you.

Depends if the boss is a good guy I would give him my two weeks notice thank him for giving me the job for as long as he did and do the job as well as I have been doing it before if the boss was a absolute prick I'd tell him where he can stick his job and call him every name under the sun.

Last job I quit I just walked into the office about 15 minutes before my shift was about to start and told them that I am on my way to the psychiatric hospital.

Then went on a 5 day vacation in Niagara Falls, which also happened to be the conception of my son.

I can't really slack off. What if I need to go back to that job for whatever reason? When I quit my last job, I worked hard for the last 2 weeks. They actually gave me a little bonus for doing such a good job as I left and told me if I ever needed a job that I could go back. I just don't see the reason to slack then when you're leaving. Leave with a lasting impression is what I say.

I quit every job I had until I became self-employed, don't want to be one of those guys who moan about their work every day on Facebook or whatever. If you're that unhappy in a dead end job do something about it.

I'm 29 and I've had over 40 jobs. So I have no qualms about quitting them when they suck. I've actually done the Stone Cold double bird quit. I've done the two weeks notice thing. Give them what they deserve if the job is a shitty one most likely they're going to give you a shitty recommendation. Also most employers don't even bother checking references or older jobs.

One job I just went in and quit. They told me if I don't give 2 weeks notice I could never work there again. I said OK and walked out. Every other job I gave notice.

I go with option one, even if it is a terrible job show that you are above that and keep putting in the effort. No point getting a bad reputation especially if your future employers look back at your past employment and talk to previous employers. Give two weeks and do a good job, no need to burn any bridges.

Well I had a job I hated, and on my last shift I rocked up late, left slightly early and told them I needed a uniform so they gave me one, then never showed up again. Winning.
